In this study, several pullout tests were carried out under various field conditions to evaluate the pullout force of the end fixed nails. Pullout resistance force, displacement and friction force between the grouting and nail were measured in end fixed nails installed in soft rock, weathered rock and weathered soil. Furthermore, the field test were also carried out under the same condition using the conventional type nails. Based on the test results, it is concluded that the end fixed nails showed larger ultimate resistance force compared with conventional types nails, approximately two times in weathered soil and 1.6 times of weathered rock, respectively. The skin friction is also increased in end fixed type about 1.8~3.0 times. Finally, it is concluded in the base of the force transfer properties that using the end fixed nails could decrease the displacement and show a uniform resistance in entire length of nails.
Engineering behaviour of uplift-resisting ground anchors constructed in weathered rocks has been investigated by carrying out a series of full scale pull-out tests. The anchor was to resist uplift forces (buoyancy) associated with high groundwater table acting on the basement of a rail way station. The study has included the ultimate pull-out capacity of the anchors and shear stress transfer mechanism at the anchor-ground interface. The pull-out tests were conducted by changing bonded lengths of the anchor (2~7 m) and diameter of drilled borehole (108~165 mm) to investigate their effects on the behaviour of the anchor. The measured results showed that the ultimate capacity of the anchors was increased with an increase in the bonded length, diameter of drilled borehole as expected. The ultimate capacity of the anchors deduced from the pull-out tests ranged from 392 to 1,569 kN, depending on the above-mentioned factors. This corresponds to the interface shear strength of about 227~505 kPa. Interface shear stresses deduced from the pull-out test showed that the larger the pull-out force, the larger the mobilisation of the interface shear strength. The failure mode of the anchors heavily depended on the bonded lengths of the anchors. When the bonded length was short (2~3 m), a cone-type failure was observed, whereas when the bonded length increased (5~7 m), failure developed at the grout-ground interface.
Pack micropiles were recently developed to improve pile capacity of general micropiles. Pack micropiles were made by warping thread bar or steel pipe of general micropile by geotexlile pack and grouting inside the pack with pressure. According to the pressure, the boring hole could be enlarged. A series of pile uplift tests were performed on three micropiles. Two out of the three piles were the pack micropiles and the other was the general micropile, in which a thread bar was used in the boring hole. According to the pressure applied to the pack micropiles, the diameter of boring hole was enlarged from 152 mm to 220 mm. Unit skin friction mobilized on side surfaces of micropiles increased with displacement of pile head and reached on a constant value, which represents that the relative displacement between piles (or thread bar) and soils was reached on critical state. And the uplift resistance of pack micropile was higher than that of general micropile. Two reasons can be considered: One is that the frictional surface increases due to enlarging diameter of boring holes and the other is that the unit skin friction could increase due to compressing effect of surrounding soils by soil displacement as much as the enlarging volume of boring hole. The compression effect appeared at deeper layer rather than surface layer. The unit skin friction mobilized on micropiles with small diameter was higher than the ones on large bored piles.

Model pile pull-out tests have been executed to investigate the characteristics of the critical relative displacement at which the critical pile skin resistance is mobilized. Test result shows that the critical relative displacement is neither constant nor pile size dependent, but it is the most closely related with the magnitude of the critical skin resistance. The empirical relationship between the two quantities has been established. Behavior of centrifuge physical models of skin-resistance-related problems has been investigated on a quantitative basis by a computational method. A pile downdrag problem has been employed as an example of the skin-resistance-related problems. A simple transfer function type method has been developed for the analysis of the downdrag. It is concluded from the analysis that centrifuge physical modeling of skin-resistance-related problems may lead to an erroneous result on an unconservative side, as may have been expected due to the violation of the similarity rule by the quantity of the critical relative displacement.

In order to properly manage trees in rivers, the impact of trees on flooding and their ecological characteristics need to be considered and a plan needs to be established. The hydraulic impact by trees is reduction of conveyance and hydraulic structure's function due to overturn arising from flow force. A field pulling test was carried out to measure the critical resistance force for when trees break in order to discover the level of resistance that trees inside the river have to external force. The relevant factors for discovering the critical breaking moment for trees include tree species, which determines the external characteristic of trees, tree diameter at breast height, and tree height. In this study, the correlation between critical breaking moment and diameter at breast height were used. The tree's limit or critical breaking moment was tested using 100 shrubs and tall trees with a breast height diameter of 4.9 to 32.8 cm. It was difficult to derive a correlation between diameter at breast height and critical breaking moment when shrubs and tall trees were being considered together, but when only tall trees were considered, a consistent correlation was found between them.
Laboratory model test results for ultimate uplift capacity of horizontal circular anchors embedded in soft clay overlain by dense sand are presented. The effect of the critical embedment ratio on the thickness of the clay layer was evalyated. An approximate preocedure for estimating the net ultimate capacity is presented.
The demand for large-scale horticultural complexes utilizing reclaimed lands is increasing, and one of the pending issues for the construction of large-scale facilities is to establish foundation design criteria. In this paper, we tried to review previous studies on the method of reinforcing the foundation of soft ground. Target construction methods are spiral piles, wood piles, crushed stone piles and PF (point foundation) method. In order to evaluate the performance according to the basic construction method, pull-out resistance, bearing capacity, and settlement amount were measured. At the same diameter, pull-out resistance increased with increasing penetration depth. Simplified comparison is difficult due to the difference in reinforcement method, diameter, and penetration depth, but it showed high bearing capacity in the order of crushed stone pile, PF method, and wood pile foundation. In the case of wood piles, the increase in uplift resistance was different depending on the slenderness ratio. Wood, crushed stone pile and PF construction methods, which are foundation reinforcement works with a bearing capacity of 105 kN/㎡ to 826 kN/㎡, are considered sufficient methods to be applied to the greenhouse foundation. There was a limitation in grasping the consistent trend of each foundation reinforcement method through existing studies. If these data are supplemented through additional empirical tests, it is judged that a basic design guideline that can satisfy the structure and economic efficiency of the greenhouse can be presented.
This study was performed to check the structural safety of modified 1-2W Greenhouses to be utilized fur growing Paprika. This type of greenhouse was derived from being remodeled by enhancing the column height of conventional 1-2W type greenhouses. According to the results of structural analysis performed by SAP-2000, there was not significant change in critical snow depth in spite of increasing the column height of 1.2 m by welding. But the critical wind velocities were shown to be $26.0\sim4l.0m/s$, which were $3\sim18%$ lower wind velocities compared with those critical velocities estimated for typical type of 1-2W greenhouse. Under the wind loads, those maximum section forces such as shear force, axial force, and bending moment, together with the deformed frame shape of strained greenhouse, were almost similar in both typical type and modified type. Maximum bending moment of column was found at eave's height of column on windward side. Under the snow loads, those maximum section forces such as shear farce, axial force, and bending moment, together with the deformed frame shape of strained greenhouse, were almost similar in both typical type and modified type. Maximum section forces except axial force was found at eave's height of column. Maximum axial force was found at inner column. Soil bearing capacity together with the total foundation resistance against wind upheaval was found to be consistently safe enough to resist to both wind load and snow load.

In this study, a newly modified soil nailing technology which uses bamboo, rich natural material growing in southern areas, is developed to prevent the soil pollution and to overcome the difficulty of excavation near existing structures. Experimental and analytical studies were performed to confirm application possibility of bamboo taking the place of existent reinforcement material, that is steelbar, FRP and etc. In experimental study, strength characteristics of bamboo material were analyzed, and pull-out resistance of bamboo soil nailing system by field pull-out tests was examined. In analytical study, limit equilibrium analysis and displacement analysis were performed, and application possibility of bamboo soil nailing system was analyzed. As the result of this study, bamboo has comparatively good strength and pull-out resistance characteristics. It is expected that bamboo can be used as satisfactory reinforcement material by selecting bamboo with reguired diameter and by controlling the number of bamboo strips. Bamboo is an alternative for the reinforcement of soil nailing system, especially temporary support system in excavation near the existing structures.

In this study, a newly modified soil nailing technology named as the SPN (Spiral Pipe Nailing) system, is developed to self drilling method can apply to ground which is hard to keep shape of bore hole. And limit equilibrium analysis with simplified trial wedge method while length ratio and bond ratio being altered was performed to evaluate slope stability considered of tensile strength and bending stiffness. Also, using $FLAC^{2D}$ program, superiority of the SPN system was compared to the GSN (General Soil Nailing) system about an example section. And effects of various factors related to the design of the SPN system, such as the type of drilling method and the bit, are examined throughout a series of the displacement-controlled field pull-out tests. As a result, the SPN system is better than the GSN system in slope stability because of having larger bending stiffness, tensile strength and unit skin friction. And results of simplified trial wedge method are similar to results of TALREN 97 program, commercial limit equilibrium analysis computer software, about an example section. Consequently, it will find out of that the SPN system reduce displacements and settlements in down excavation process as well as to increase the global stability.
