Grit, defined as "perseverance and passion for long-term goals", is a known personality trait that successfully predicts high performance in various fields. In spite of extant evidence of the effectiveness of grit, research has not yet clarified the relationship between grit and conscientiousness, a highly correlated personality trait. In this study(N = 355), we examined the effect of grit and conscientiousness on academic achievement, mediated by self-determination motivation. As a result, grit and conscientiousness both predicted academic performance, and intrinsic motivation mediated these relationships. However, conscientiousness no longer related with motivation and academic achievement when grit was controlled for, whereas grit maintained its relationship with motivation and achievement even when conscientiousness was controlled. This result indicates that although the two psychological concepts overlap to some extent, grit has a unique motivational and behavioral effect that distinguishes it from conscientiousness. The present study expands the current understanding of grit with its comparison between grit and conscientiousness. We suggest future research ought refine the grit scale to establish its discriminant validity.

The study conducted an employment capability reinforcement program targeting health-related college students, and then carried out positive analysis to find out how satisfaction affects adjustment to college life and academic achievement. An employment capability reinforcement program was conducted which targeted health related majors at a university located in Cheongbuk, and information on satisfaction, adjustment to college life, and academic achievement was collected through a self-administered questionnaire. The analysis results revealed that the higher the satisfaction for the employment capability reinforcement program, the better the adjustment to college life, while increased adjustment to college life affected academic achievement. Although the employment capability reinforcement program had no direct relationship of influence to academic achievement, the study shows that it does lead to increased academic achievement by way of adjustment to college life, which ends up as a positive affect for future employment. Therefore, active efforts are necessary to revitalize employment related programs that suit the characteristics of each department in order to establish an environment for revitalizing employment and increasing adjustment to college life.

The purpose of this study is to investigate factors affecting dropout intention based on education satisfaction survey analysis of local J university. Total 7,248 survey data which has high trustability were analyzed. Analysis of variance was performed to verify differences between each grade and credits level. There are significant differences between the year grade and credit level. Especially the result show that the satisfaction of freshman is higher than the other grade students. To verify relation between intention to dropout and satisfaction of university education logistic regression analysis method has been applied and satisfaction of academic guidance, vocational guidance, environment of education and self-satisfaction of university life are significantly related to the dropout intention. The most important variable is self-satisfaction of university life which determine dropout intention through decision tree analysis.

This study addressed ways in which parental poverty factors are associated with child school performance and how these relationships may be mediated by self-regulated study performance. Data of the Korea Education Longitudinal Survey (KELS : 2005) were used in this survey of 6,908 students in 150 schools. Parental poverty status, self-regulated study performance, and school performance achievement were administered when children were in 7th grade. Using structure equation modeling analysis, the results of this study confirmed that self-regulated study performance is a mediator of the linkage between poverty and school performance. Thus, children's positive self-regulated study performance acts to buffer the negative cycle of poverty.

Peer evaluation is an evaluation centered on the student, through which interaction among students becomes active. The peer evaluation has a greater influence on students than a unilateral directions from the teacher has. This study aims to develop performance assessment models and tasks in which students participate using the remote responder in 4th grade social studies classrooms in the elementary school. It also aims to apply the developed models and tasks to class and to find out how they affect students' academic achievement and attitude. The student participation performance assessment using the remote responder appeared to bring a positive influence on social studies academic achievement and showed statistically significant results. The survey on the students' interests in using the remote responder and its effects conducted after the performance assessment showed positive results.

We have investigated the effect of student-generated rubrics on learning motivation and achievement in performance evaluation of computer class. We studied the related previous researches and developed the procedure for performance evaluation using student-generated rubrics. According to thc developed procedure, the performance evaluation has been carried. Students have more clear understanding of their assignments and rubrics during the negotiation process. Student generated rubric has a positive effect on learning motivation and achievement.

This research analyzes how operation system and method of barista private certification implemented in Korea influence on the academic satisfaction of coffee work skills and how such system and method has an effect on the economic effectiveness to utilize for the improvement of work performance skills and for job seeking and changing. For this purpose, author conducted a survey to coffee specialists who had obtained barista certification and who have been working in coffee related industry. The result shows that the operation system and method of coffee certification verification system has a partially positive effect on the academic satisfaction of work performance skills and economic effectiveness. The contents of the coffee related certification verification system as well as specialized and reliable systematic operation of such verification system have an influence on the academic satisfaction of work performance skills and have further influence on the economic effectiveness such as seeking or changing jobs. Therefore, the research on the professionalism and reliability of the qualification verification system must be continued.

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of the undergraduate research program(URP) among Korean students. URP is frequently implemented in STEM(Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) majors, and this study tested whether the participation of URP was effective in convergence competency, major satisfaction, and academic achievement. Data were collected from 101 participants and 117 non-participants of URP at an A university. The research results showed that the mean scores of convergence competency, major satisfaction, and academic achievement of the URP participating group were significantly higher than those of the non-participating group.

An academic performance can advance the expectations that lead to academic success. The purpose of this study was to research the relationship of the variables; past performance, the ability to use information technology, outcome expectations, grade goal of studies, and study performance in an information technology course. Participants completed a background questionnaire, the Information Technology Proficiency Exam, the scale of the ability using computer, and the Technology Outcome scale. Based on path model results, the findings suggest that students' academic performance is related to past performance. Consistent with theory, the findings suggest that the studies performance is influenced by ability using information technology via the establishment of the grade goal of studies. In the present study, the past performance variable failed to predict an academic studies performance when impacted by outcome expectations.

조직이나 기업에서 높은 수준의 직무 성과는 뛰어난 지적 능력과 더불어 다른 요소들의 영향에 의해 결정된다고 광범위하게 인식되고 있다. 따라서 인사선발시 인지적인 능력뿐만이 아니라 성격과 같은 비인지적 능력을 평가하는 시도가 활발히 이루어지고 있다. 본 연구는 이를 실증적으로 검증하고자 수행되었다. 즉, 본 연구에서는 서울지역에서 재학 중인 대학생 (n=260) 을 대상으로 하여 인지적 능력은 입학성적으로, 비인적 능력은 Big Five 성격 특성으로, 직무성과는 학업성과(예, 학업평점, 대학 및 학과에 대한 만족도, 동아리 활동, 등) 로 각각 측정하여 이들의 관계성을 살펴보았다. 연구 결과, 인지적 능력과 더불어 Big Five 성격 특성 중 성실성과 개방성이 다양한 학업성과와 상관관계를 보여주었다. 본 연구는 추가적으로, 학업성과 중 동아리 활동이 대학생활의 만족도와 상관관계가 있음을 보여주고 있다. 이러한 결과는 인사선발 과정에서 지원자의 잠재적 직무성과를 예측할 때 지적 능력 같은 인지적 측면뿐만이 아니라 성격과 같은 비인지적 측면을 동시에 고려해야 한다는 실무적 시사점을 제시하고 있다.
