  • The main purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between perceived the authoritarian parenting style and academic achievement among college students. Specifically, it is hypothesized that authoritarian parenting would indirectly affect the academic achievement of college students through self-differentiation level and career decision-making self-efficacy. 283 college students, after the consideration of their grade and gender, were selected for this study as participants. Methods describing the primary analytical technique of Structural Equation Modeling were used for the study. The results demonstrate that an authoritarian parenting style negatively affected the academic achievement of college students. There are mediation effects of self-differentiation and career decision-making self-efficacy between the perceived authoritarian parenting style and academic achievement among college students. The findings imply that the positive development of adult children requires more egalitarian parenting styles than those used on early adolescents. Next, for female students, specialized career counseling programs focusing on reducing psychological career barriers and career stress are needed. Lastly, it is implied that parenting styles used on adult children in Korea may differ from Western styles. Therefore, it may be difficult to explain the relationship between parents and adult children with a traditional theoretical framework.

  • Adolescents whose families receive public assistance are primary interest in the article because they experience disproportionate shares of the burden of poverty and psychosocial stress and are at substantially high risk. To explain the psychosocial stresses of high-risk adolescents in poverty, this study analyzed the inter-relations and interactions of major variables: 1) stress related life condition, 2)individual & environmental resources, 3) emotional, behavioral, and academic adjustment. Data came from the survey of 351 students living in the families receiving public assistance. The major findings were as follows. High-risk adolescents in poverty suffered from chronic stresses related life conditions, including family environmental stress, financial & medical stress and stigmatic stress. As the effects of stress increased, depression/anxiety and delinquency of poor youth increased. The psychosocial adjustment of poor youth at risk was most effected by the stress resulted from family environment. Though they were suffered from stresses related poor environment, adolescents in poverty adjusted well, if they had individual and environmental resources including self-esteem democratic parenting and supportive school climate. In conclusion, this study confirmed that emotional, behavioral, and academic adjustment of adolescents in poverty was affected by various stresses from life conditions and individual and environmental resources. In order to improve adjustment of poor youth at risk, life conditions have to be improved and psychosocial resources to be increased. These findings have provided practical implications for social workers helping high-risk adolescents in poverty.

  • The purpose of this study is to measure the relation of employment stress and self-esteem in some health college students and to consider a proper means for the solution. The population of the research is some randomly chosen health college students located in Seoul City during the period from May 10 to June 11 2010, and the sample of 295 students were recruited as the analysis object group. The data on general characteristics and employment stress were collected by a questionnaire survey. The collected data were analyzed with the SPSS WIN 12.0 program. The following shows the results of this study. 1. Employment stress was low in high group of satisfaction in campus life. It was statistically significant(p<0.001). 2. Mean scores of total self-esteem in study population were 3.1 and positive self-esteem level(3.76) were higher than negative ones (2.44)(p<0.001). 3. The relation between employment stress and selfesteem(r=0.132) revealed significant correlation. 4. In regression analysis, home economy, competence for a schoolwork, satisfaction in campus life, self-esteem(p<0.001) were proved as significant factors that is related to the employment stress. In other words, It is significant statistically that the lower home economy, competence for a schoolwork, satisfaction in campus life, self-esteem, the higher employment stress level. I suggest with the result of the study that for coping effectively employment stress of health college students, we will need to open an educational development considering self-esteem and an exclusive employment counsel window for better administrationwelfare service in campus, to expand industry-academic cooperation in community. Because of students are independent responsibility of employment, active effort must take precedence in order for the solution of problem by themselves. Also, we will need to create better academic environment and show more concern, consideration, love in family.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine whether job-seeking stress, career decision-making self-efficacy, self-esteem, and academic achievement had an influence on nursing students' happiness. Methods: The participants were 147 nursing students in D city. Data were collected with a structured questionnaire. The data were analyzed with SPSS/WIN 19.0 using ANOVA, t-test, Pearson correlation, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: Factors that had an influence on happiness included major satisfaction(highly unsatisfied ${\beta}=-.251$, p=.001), average monthly family income(between four and six million won ${\beta}=.222$, p=.002), career decision-making self-efficacy(${\beta}=.198$, p=.010), major satisfaction(satisfied ${\beta}=.196$, p=.006), and subjective health(unhealthy ${\beta}=-.167$, p=.020). These factors explained 33.5% of the variance in student happiness. Conclusion: The results of this study reveal that career decision-making self-efficacy, self-esteem, major satisfaction, and job-seeking stress were important intrinsic factors in the happiness of nursing students. Thus, it is necessary to help these students attain more self-efficacy, self-esteem, and major satisfaction rather than focusing on academic achievement in order to increase their happiness.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the smart phone usage experience structure for college students. The phenomenology approach was used by conducting 4 times in-depth interviews with the 7 college students age between 20~23. Collected Data was analyzed by Giorgi's phenomenological method. There were 4 general structure descriptions and 28 themes. General structure descriptions were 'Dependence on smart phone', 'Phenomenon of smart phone usage', 'Results of smart phone usage' and 'Relationship between stress and smart phone'. Themes consisted of 'Ambivalence', 'Positive feelings for smart phones', 'Separation anxiety', 'Negative feelings for smart phones'. 'Dependent feelings for smart phones', 'A sense of unity with smart phones', 'Helpful for my life', 'Deeply involved with my life', 'Useful tool in my life', 'Study, communication, relaxation and health care', 'Maintain personal relationship', 'The most important thing in my life', 'Shallow relationship stress', 'Interference with personal relationship', 'Forming a negative relationship', 'Invasion of privacy', 'Forming a Incorrect relationship', 'Unwanted participation', 'No effort to improve relationship', 'Poor concentration', 'Interference with academic study', 'Study assistance', 'Limited help for study in depth', 'Shelter from the stress', 'Amplification of the stress', 'Obsessive focus', 'Feel separation for the reality' and 'Waste of time'. Smart phone usage make college students dependent on smart phones and had negative influence on both personal relationship and academic results. Usage of smart phone also amplified stress. Therefore we need fundamental principles on usage of smart phone and propose to build cultural etiquette that provides reasonable way to use smartphone.
