The Relationship between Information Mind and Academic Performance in University Students

  • In this paper, we propose a reasonable plan for university information education by examining whether university students' academic performance improves when the information mind is satisfied. In particular, through comparison between physical education students and general students, it was intended to provide empirical help in preparing strategies for information education in universities in the future. As a result of the analysis, there were some differences by major category, but overall, the information mind improved major convergence ability, teamwork and self-directed learning ability, and academic performance. Therefore, in order to improve the Information mind of college students, it is suggested that the need for Information should be recognized and the curriculum and program suitable for the major characteristics should be introduced and implemented.

Middle School Student's Academic Motivation from on Ecological Perspectives (생태학적 변인이 중학교 2학년 학생의 학업 동기에 미치는 영향)

  • This study investigated the ecological factors influencing second-year middle school students' academic motivation. A total of 371 students were surveyed for this study and data were analyzed for descriptive statistics using SPSS Win 21.0. The results of this study revealed that female students showed higher academic motivation than male students. However, school life satisfaction was strong for both male and female students. Finally, the introduction of parent education programs that target children to improve learners' self-identity and parent-child or teacher-student communication programs are necessary to enhance academic motivation.

Fatigue, Personality Traits, Learning Strategies, and Academic Achievement in Graduate-entry Medical Students (의학전문대학원 학생의 피로, 성격특성, 학습전략과 학업성취도의 관계)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship among fatigue, personality, learning strategies, and academic achievement of medical students. 146 students from year 1 to year 4 at one medical school participated in this study. Students completed the fatigue, Big Five personality traits(Neuroticism, Extraversion, Openness, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness), learning, strategies. The academic achievement of students measured by GPA. The data were analyzed by t-test and stepwise multiple regression. The student's fatigue differed by grade, and the students of low grade had higher scores than high grade. But personality traits and learning strategies were not significantly different by grade. The factors that affect on academic achievement differ by grade. In low grade, neuroticism, extraversion, and rehearsal affected students' academic achievement. In high grade, conscientiousness and extraversion had an effect on the academic achievement of students. These results could guide the design of medical education improvement, and be useful in developing a supporting program for medical students.

Effects of Creativity Instruction Activities on Academic Motivation and Career Maturity of University Students : Based on NFTM-TRIZ Creativity Education Model (창의수업활동이 대학생의 학업동기 및 진로성숙도에 미치는 영향: NFTM-TRIZ 창의 교육 모형을 기반으로)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of creativity instruction activities on academic motivation and career maturity of university students and the relationship between these factors. The subjects of this study were university students who took creativity liberal arts based on NFTM-TRIZ creativity education model for a term. The research scales were the self-efficacy scale and failure tolerance scale of academic motivation tests and the Career Maturity Inventory Attitude Scale. The results of this study were as follows : First, creativity instruction activities had a positive influence on academic motivation and career maturity. Especially the effects on self control efficacy, task preference level, career decisiveness and compromise showed significantly(p<.01). Secondly, academic motivation showed positive relationship with career maturity(p<.05).

The study on the convergence relationship of emotional intelligence, learning flow and academic resilience of dental hygiene students (치위생과 학생의 감성지능과 학습몰입 및 학업탄력성의 융합적 관련성 연구)

  • This research has been conducted for the purpose of studying the relationships among emotional intelligence, learning flow and academic resilience of dental hygiene department students. The study involved in 319 students from 1st grade through 3rd grade in Daegu health college who filled out questionnaire in May, 2018. We are closely analyzed data using SPSS window ver.18.0. After analyzing the results, this report shows that there was a strong correlation among emotional intelligence, learning flow and academic resilience. In addition, the higher the level of emotional intelligence, the level of learning flow and academic resilience was also elevated. Therefore, this research suggests that the standardized programs and curriculum needs to be adopted in school.

Effects of the Perceived Usefulness and Perceived Enjoyment of YouTube Use on Academic Adjustment of College Students in Distance Education due to COVID-19: Focusing on Compulsive YouTube Usage

  • The goal of this study is to investigate how YouTube use motivation such as perceived usefulness and perceived enjoyment affect the compulsive YouTube usage and academic adjustment of college students. To this end, a research model was established and 113 response data obtained by conducting a questionnaire survey on college students in Seoul were used for structural model analysis. The results of this study can be summarized as following. First, perceived usefulness has a positive effect on academic adjustment. Second, compulsive YouTube usage has a negative effect on academic adjustment. Third, perceived enjoyment was identified as a factor that plays a role like pharmakon. The findings suggest the necessity of learning strategies that control the degree of perceived enjoyment as well as the instrumental use of perceived usefulness in order to improve the academic adjustment of college students.

Relationship of Academic Stress, Sociality and Self-Directed Learning in Nursing Students (일 대학 간호대학생의 학업스트레스, 사회성 및 자기주도적 학습간의 관계)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the levels of academic stress, sociality, and self-directed learning in nursing students, and to examine the relationship between the variables. Data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire from 208 students in the first and second years of a nursing program. This study was performed from December 5 to December 10, 2015. The data were analyzed with SPSS WIN 18.0 software (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA). The results were as follows. The mean score of academic stress was $3.20{\pm}0.53$, that of sociality was $2.91{\pm}0.25$, and that of self-directed learning was $3.33{\pm}0.33$. There was a negative correlation between academic stress and self-directed learning (r=-0.16, p=0.024) and a positive correlation between sociality and self-directed learning (r=0.17, p=0.015). Higher academic stress correlated with lower self-directed learning, while higher sociality correlated with higher self-directed learning. The results indicate that the levels of academic stress, sociality, and self-directed learning in nursing students can influence the quality of nursing education. Thus, there is a need to develop programs to reduce academic stress and to help improve sociality and self-directed learning for nursing students.

The Mediating Effect of Ego Resilience in the Relationship between Children's Academic Stress and School Adjustment (아동의 학업 스트레스와 학교 적응간의 관계에서 자아탄력성의 매개효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of children's academic stress on school adaptation and to verify whether ego-resilience plays a mediating role in the relationship between academic stress and school adaptation. Based on the data from the 12th year of the Korean Children's Panel (2019), the general characteristics of the main subjects and the mean, standard deviation, skewness and kurtosis of the main variables were confirmed through basic statistical analysis, and correlation analysis was conducted between variables. In addition, to examine whether ego-resilience mediated the effect of academic stress on school adaptation, a three-step regression analysis was conducted following the procedure of Baron and Kenny. The results of this study were as follows. First, it was found that children's academic stress, school adaptation, and ego resilience were all significantly correlated. The higher the academic stress, the lower the ego-resilience and school adaptability. Second, it was confirmed that ego-resilience has a partial mediating effect in the relationship between children's academic stress and school adjustment. Ego resilience in the academic stress situation means that it acts as an important mediating factor to flexibly adapt to school life by objectively grasping and coping with the stress situation. Therefore, we need to recognize the need for flexible and resilient individual characteristics so that children can reduce academic stress and adapt well to school life, and seek active interest and intervention plans.

The Relationship between Parenting Attitudes Perceived by Elementary School Students and Their Learned Helplessness: The Moderated Mediation Effect of Academic Failure Tolerance and Resilience (초등학생이 지각한 부모의 양육 태도와 학습된 무기력의 관계: 학업 실패 내성과 회복탄력성의 조절된 매개효과)

  • This study investigated the extent to which parental attitudes and the moderated mediation effect of academic failure tolerance and resilience affect their level of learned helplessness. The participants included 337 fifth and sixth graders in one elementary school in Chungju-si, Chungcheongbuk-do Province. A survey method was used and the research packet included measures of parenting attitudes, helplessness, academic failure tolerance, and resilience. The results are as follows. First, positive parental attitudes, academic failure tolerance, and resilience were positively correlated with each other whereas learned helplessness was negatively associated with the other three variables. Second, academic failure tolerance partially mediated the relationship between parental attitudes and learned helplessness. Third, resilience moderated the relationship between academic failure tolerance and learned helplessness. Lastly, there was a significant moderated mediation effect of resilience on the link between parental attitudes and learned helplessness through academic failure tolerance. The findings indicates the importance of parenting attitudes perceived by elementary school students, academic failure tolerance, and resilience when designing counseling interventions for those with learned helplessness. This study also discusses its limitations and suggestions for future studies.

Investigating factors influencing Educational Performanceand mediating effects of learning presence of University Flipped Learning Classroom (대학 플립드러닝에서 수업성과에 영향을 미치는 요인과 학습실재감의 매개효과 규명)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate factors influencing educational performance and mediating effects of learning presence in the university flipped learning classroom. For achieving this purpose, self-regulation, learning presence, and collaborative preference were selected as learner variables, and perceived academic achievement and learning engagement were selected as variables for educational performance. To investigate causal relationships among the variables, 39 university students who took 16 week course flipped-learning class participated self-reported survey. Collected data were analyzed by multiple regression and mediation analyses. The results were as follows: first, learning presence and self-regulation affected learning engagement, and moreover, the learning presence mediated between self-regulation and learning engagement. Second, only learning presence affected perceived academic achievement. Therefore, various strategies for effective flipped learning should be considered, and well-designed classroom activities that can promote learners self-regulation, learning presence, and learning engagement are needed to successful flipped learning.
