  • Education about invention in elementary schools has thus far be conducted mostly through special activities and talented activities rather than through normal curricula. However, with the implementation of the 2007 amended curricula, invention education was reflected as a normal subject unit in the practical subject (technology and home economics) curricula, thereby laying groundwork for invention education being able to be provided through normal subject classes. Thus, at the time when invention education has been reflected as a normal subject unit, it is meaningful to research the effects of elementary school students' experience in invention education on their invention attitudes. This study sought to research the effects of elementary school students' experience or non-experience in invention education on their invention attitudes, targeting those in regional talent private schools who did not take invention talent classes, those who received invention education, and those who did not receive invention education at all. The conclusion of this study is outlined as follows. First, students' experience in invention education proved to be positive in boosting their invention attitude, and continued invention education experience like with students in regional talent invention schools significantly boosted their invention attitudes. Second, considering that students' actual experience in invention education had positive effects on their invention attitudes, the reflection of invention education in the amended curricula was found to be very desirable in improving elementary students' attitudes about invention. Third, according to gender, male students' invention attitude level was found to be higher than that of female students, suggesting that male students more worked on computers, electronic (smart) devices and machines in daily life, leading them to further develop invention attitudes.

The results of this study is as follows. First, elementary school students decided whether they liked or disliked mathematics, depending on not only characteristics of mathematics, but also teacher's teaching mathematics with interest and fun, or teacher's teaching tediously and difficultly. Second, negative attitude toward mathematics exam of elementary school students was influenced by parents' meddling for exam and negative attitude toward result of exam more than uneasiness by exam itself. Third, as private education for elementary school students becomes more popular, the learning mathematics out of school can be an important factor to decide attitude of learning mathematics of students on several sides such as teacher, teaching method, method of presenting task, and so on as much as mathematics class in school, and characteristics of mathematics. Fourth, students demanded silent and concentrative atmosphere in studying to have positive attitude of learning mathematics. Fifth, as the result of examining major factors that form attitude of teaming mathematics of groups by achievement in mathematics, there was considerable difference in each group. Students in a group of ‘upper’ and ‘lower’ disliked parents' meddling and rebuke, but it didn't change greatly their attitude toward mathematics exam. The researchers were interested in how the two groups, middle or middle lower achievers and high achievers, showed their attitudes toward mathematics and where their attitudes were derived from. For the investigation, the researchers surveyed 121 students of general public high school and 64 students of a foreign language high school. Reliability, mean difference with t-test and frequency were analyzed. The results showed that many students from both groups had negative attitudes toward mathematics. However, the causes of the attitudes were different between the two groups. This implies that we need to reform the instructional methods and curricula of mathematics cources.

  • This study investigated the effects of climate change project learning on elementary students' attitudes toward climate change and environmental literacy. Climate change project learning was conducted on 174 sixth-grade elementary school students in a metropolitan city (77 male, 97 female), after which their perceptions and attitudes toward climate change and environmental literacy were assessed. The climate change project learning had a positive effect on the students' perceptions and attitudes toward climate change, which was surmised because of the climate change content sharing and discussions during the project learning. The climate change project learning also had a positive effect on the students' environmental literacy, especially their environmental attitudes, values, and behavior; however, there were no statistically significant changes found for environmental sensitivity. This study highlights the educational effects and implications of environmentally focused climate change projectbased education for elementary school students.
