This study investigated both elementary and middle school students' abilities of reading scales and students' conceptions of measuring instruments and units. Seventy two students with 5th grade, sixty nine students with 7th grade, and eighty students with 9th grade were participated. Performance tests and written questionnaires were used. To assess their scale reading abilities, individual performance test was used. Every student should measure length of an envelope, temperature of water, volume of water, etc. And to find out students' conceptions related with measuring instruments and units, written questionnaires with pictures and photographs were used. Some of the students' abilities of reading scales were considerably poor. The results of a two-plate-balance and measuring-cylinder were worse than those of a ruler, a spring-balance, and a thermometer. Many of the students had misconceptions related with measuring instruments. Some of them did not know exactly the meaning of volume, or mass, or force. So they did not know what to measure with the measuring instruments. Also students were confused with several units of volume, force, weight and mass.
This study investigated the teaching strategies of two exemplary American teachers regarding word problems and their impact on students' ability to both understanding and solving word problems. The teachers commonly explained the background details of the background of the word problems. The explanation motivated the students' mathematical problem solving, helped students understand the word problems clearly, and helped students use various solving strategies. Emphasizing communication, the teachers also provided comfortable atmosphere for students to discuss mathematical ideas with another. The teachers' continuous questions became the energy for students to plan various problem solving strategies and reflect the solutions. Also, this research suggested a complementary model for Polya's problem solving strategies.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the counseling services in elementary school, to analyze counseling needs and the degree of distress or worry, and to provide desirable for counseling. In order to achieve the purpose of this study, the questionnaire as a research tool was used for the respondents, 476 elementary school students in Jeollabukdo. The results were as follows: First, there is a shortage of counseling or its guidance, an experienced counselor, and room for the students. Most of the counseling was taken place only when home room teacher thinks counseling is needed. Second, the students wanted a counselor to listen and understand their problems, preferred women teacher as a counselor, and needed personal advice after class. Third, the degree of worry was higher on female students with siblings, single father, Grade 6, and the low scores. Fourth, each area of worry of the elementary school students showed a positive correlation. The results of this study showed that it is needed to reexamine the administrative and institutional contents and develop a variety of counseling program in order to put the counseling in the elementary school to practical use.
This study introduces the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) and explores the characteristics of CLASS for observing classroom. The CLASS is a standardized observation instrument that was largely developed for use in the USA. The CLASS attempts to provide a conceptual framework for categorizing classroom interactions and consists of three broad domains of quality (emotional supports, classroom organization, instructional supports). We simulated this method to the elementary school classes. The professional-teacher makes the best use of student's initiation behaviors, and the novice teacher focused on the leading the contents of subject. The novice teacher tyr to make more positive climate and to present more frequent feedback to students than professional teacher's classroom. The professional teacher would like to reveal the student's opinions, questions and subtle emotional state. The CLASS can be used to collect data on a wide range of specific aspects of the teaching and learning process at any given time.

This study investigated verbal and physical interactions which appeared in collaborative science concept learning using augmented reality. Twelve 10th grade students participated in this study. After being organized into three four-member small groups, they participated in classes using smart device-based augmented reality application developed for the understanding of the chemical bonding concept. Their class activities were audio- and video-taped. Semi-structured interviews were also conducted. The results revealed that within individual statement units of verbal interaction, the proportions of information question/explanation and direction question/explanation were found to be high. Within interaction units, the proportions of reformative and cumulative interaction were relatively high. The proportions of progress were also found to be high within both individual statement units and interaction units of verbal interaction. Students' physical interactions were mainly conducted without meaningful verbal interactions. When their physical interactions were accompanied by knowledge construction-related verbal interactions, the proportions of gazing virtual objects and worksheet-related interactions were high. In contrast, various exploratory activities related to the manipulation of markers mainly appeared when they conducted physical interactions only, or when their physical interactions were accompanied by management-related verbal interactions. On the bases of the results, effective methods for collaborative concept learning using augmented reality in science education are discussed.
This study surveyed common sense of testing eye vision, feeling of own vision and wearing glasses, and method of wearing glasses using questionnaire for 625 primary student(male 322, female 303) live in Iksan city, Jeon buk Province. The question about the selection of testing vision office answered ophthalmic optics only 12.6% by common sense but 38.8% among testing vision students had been checked the visual acuity in ophthalmic optics. 40% student of all answerer have a poor vision by self-evaluation testing and realized when they look far vision is 46.4% among the poor vision answerer, look black board is 26.0%, look monitor is 18.4%, and reading is 9.9%. 46% answerer of the subjective poor vision who tested eye vision by self-evaluation did not correct eye vision. 48.7% answerer among uncorrect eye vision is because of having no chance to test. The question of effect in wearing glasses answered that the 48% of a1l answerer will be worse the visual acuity, the other is getting better and unchanged eye vision by common sense. The question about how looks like glasses wearer answered that the 45.8% answerer is uncomfortable appearance by common sense. 32.3% answerer of the glasses wearer became a failure wearer because glasses was uncomfortable to fit primary student.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the development of scientific conceptual understanding through a process-centered assessment that visualizes the process of scientific argumentation. In this study, 353 high school students and five teachers participated in the scientific argumentation. As a result of analyzing students' utterances on the elements of argumentation, scientific concepts in intragroup were embodied through query and clarification of meaning, and organized through agreement and rebuttal. In intergroup argumentation, scientific concepts were elaborated through query, clarification of meaning, and change of claim. Teachers were able to understand the process of argumentation through small-group activity sheets where the process was visualized, thereby providing feedback and improving the class. Based on the results, the scientific argumentation of visualizing the process was found not only to allow students to perform self-assessment and peer-assessment but also to help teachers understand the argumentation process. The findings of this study guide process-centered assessment in the science curriculum and are expected to contribute to the promotion of scientific argumentation in classrooms.

This study investigated the effects of weekly reports as a method for encouraging student questions in middle school science instruction by focusing on student conceptual understanding, achievement, concept map, and perceptions of weekly reports. Seventh graders (N=211) from a middle school were assigned to control and weekly reports (WR) groups. All students were taught about the 'three states of matter', the 'motion of molecules', and the 'change of states and thermal energy' for eighteen class hours. Students in the WR group were required to write weekly reports for six of those periods. Results revealed that conception test scores for the WR group were significantly higher than those for the control group. Compared conception test scores by learning strategy, students using a surface learning strategy in the WR group scored significantly higher than those in the control group. While students employing a deep learning strategy in the WR group also performed better than those in the control group, the difference was relatively small. The scores of an achievement test and a concept map test for the WR group were significantly higher than those for the control group. However, there were no significant interactions between instruction and students' learning strategy in the two variables. It was also found that most students in the WR group positively perceived weekly reports.
The purpose of this study is to examine the psychometric properties of the Korean Children's Rejection Sensitivity Questionnaire (K-CRSQ). In order to investigate the reliability and validity of the K-CRSQ, the data were collected from 286 elementary students. The results are as follow : Internal consistency and test -retest reliability of the K-CRSQ were .83~.89, .72~.79, respectively. To test the convergent and discriminant validity, participants were separated into two samples and administered the K-CRSQ and ten validity indices. The correlation of K-CRSQ and validity indices scores suggested that the convergent and discriminant validity are high. High rejection sensitivity group revealed high score on intentional attribution, depression, anxiety, and aggression. In contrast, low rejection sensitivity group revealed high score on self-esteem, perceived competence, and social support. The results were compared with previous studies and the implication and limitation were discussed.
