To this end, it used survey data of students from 50 middle schools in Seoul and Gyeonggi province. A total of 1,777 cases from 50 middle schools were used for individual student-level analysis (Level 1), and used for school-level analysis (Level-2). According to the results of the analysis, student-level variables such as attitude toward violence, experience of child abuse at home, and delinquent peers had significant effects on school violence. The effects of violent discipline by teacher, which are used as a school-level variable, was statistically significant. • We tried to develop the school violence prevention program which focuses on the bystanders. In the context of school violence, most students are bystanders. They can either reinforce the violence or stop the violence. We hypothesized that the students who know their own temperament dimensions such as novelty seeking, harm avoidance, and reward dependence (Cloninger, 1994) will show more tendencies to defend victims from school violence when they learned the methods to prevent school violence in accordance to their temperament dimensions. 351 Korean middle school students participated the 4 sessions of school violence prevention program. The students completed the questionnaires to identify their own behavior in school violence situations. In the experimental group(temperament group), students learned the methods to help the victims that suits with their own temperaments. Whereas, the comparison group just attend the class regardless of their temperaments. Both groups showed significant increase in the trend of defending the victims. However, the temperament group showed more tendency to protect/defend the victims than the comparison group when they faced with school violence. These results show that students can learn the methods of defending victims from school violence more easily by knowing their own temperament dimensions, and can be the prepared and the effective defenders.

  • This study investigated the effects of individual characteristics, school factors, and community factors on adolescent school violence behaviors. Data from a total of 1,777 middle school students from 50 schools in the Seoul and Gyeonggi regions were used for analysis. A hierarchical generalized linear modeling was employed to conduct a two-level analysis. Results showed that adolescents' individual factors, including attitudes toward violence, parental attachment, child abuse experiences, and affiliation with delinquent peers, as well as school factors including teacher's abusive classroom discipline, affected adolescent school violence behaviors. In addition, neighborhood disorder was found to be significantly positively correlated with adolescents' school violence. The results of this study suggest that for an understanding of school violence and to prepare countermeasures accordingly, integrated consideration of various environmental contexts in adolescents' daily lives, such as family, school, and community environments, is necessary. A multidimensional, integrated intervention plan to effectively resolve school violence based on these research results is discussed.

  • This study looked at how children's mental health is affected by Domestic violence and school violence at home and school after Covid-19, as well as how these victim experiences relate to children's mental health. This study surveyed 650 students from 14 middle schools in Wanju, Korea. The moderating effect of smartphone overdependence in the experience of violence and mental health was investigated. Major research findings: First, children's exposure to domestic violence and school violence has a significant impact on smartphone dependence. Second, children's exposure to domestic and school violence has a significant impact on their mental health. Third, it has been demonstrated that smartphone dependence is statistically significant in the relationship between domestic and school violence. Based on these findings, we present a convergent intervention and practice strategy for children in the Covid-19 era to cope with mental health problems and expand the support system.

  • The school violence is at a critical level today even though it occurred continuously from the past. This issue is not only limited to Korea but it could become a greater issue overseas where possession of firearms is legal. Therefore, introduction of preventative measures in Korean schools should be reviewed by studying how different policies are being applied in countries worldwide to eradicate school violence. Furthermore, the society should continuously make an effort to eradicate school violence. The attitude of regional community who reports instead of spectating and their interest towards school violence are considered very important in addition to the police activities carried out by an organization of the society.
