Targeting Catecholamines to Develop New Drugs for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (주의력결핍 과잉행동장애 치료제 개발을 위한 카테콜아민계 표적화)

  • The prevalence of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), a developmental neuropsychiatric disorder, is high among children and adolescents. The pathogenesis of ADHD is mediated with genetic, biological, and environmental factors. Most therapeutic drugs for ADHD have so far targeted biological causes, primarily by regulating catecholaminergic neurotransmitters. However, ADHD drugs that are clinically treated have various problems in their addictiveness and drug stability; thus, it is recommended that efficacy and safety should be secured through simultaneous prescription of multiple drugs rather than a single drug treatment. Accordingly, it is necessary to develop drugs that newly target pathogenic mechanisms of ADHD. In this study, we attempt to confirm the possibility of developing new drugs by reviewing dopamine-related developmental mechanisms of neurons and their correlation with ADHD. Histone deacetylase inhibitors (HDACi) can regulate the concentration of intracellular dopamine in neurons by expressing vesicular monoamine transporter 2 and inducing the exocytosis of neurotransmitters to the synaptic cleft, thereby promoting the development of neurons and signal transmission. This cellular modulation of HDACi is expected to treat ADHD by regulating endogenous catecholamines such as dopamine. Although studies are still in the preclinical stage, HDAC inhibitors clearly have potential as a therapeutic agent with low addictiveness and high efficacy for ADHD treatment.

Practical discourse of civil democracy education in the elementary and the secondary school through the lense of competency education: based on human rights (역량교육을 통해 바라본 초·중등학교 민주시민교육의 실천적 담론: 인권을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of the study was to suggest how and what human rights education goes with civil democracy education. Analysis of civil democracy education contents in the 2022 revised general education curriculum draft and that of the 2030 OECD Education project have been performed to find out what contents are necessarily included. Results are as follows: Firstly, human rights education needs to be adopted as an independent subject to be delivered with detailed and organized information. Secondly, actual experiences in diverse curricular and extracurricular activities need to be provided. Thirdly, a human rights-friendly atmosphere needs to be established to update teachers' perception and upgrade competency regarding human rights education. Lastly, it is expected that these activities facilitate adoption of human rights education curriculum into 2022 general education.

  • The objective of this study is to understand the knowledge and awareness of local peoples regarding joint venture and use of school facilities in two regional cities of Choongnam province: Cheonan and Asan. The results of the survey will be used as the planning guidelines to facilitate in seeking the appropriate plans of joint venture and use of school facilities for the respective cities. The survey was taken by 724 people of the two cities that included teachers, students and residents, and the SAS Program was used to analyze the results. The results showed that only 8.15% of the surveyed opposed the joint venture and use of school facilities, and the most of them expected the schools will augment their roles as the central features of the community through the joint venture and use of school facilities. The residents of the two cities showed similarities in calling for quality school facilities that are reasonable distances from their homes and hoping for outstanding cultural as well as educational school facilities with swimming pools, gyms and auditoriums.

Connecting School to the Community through Community Use and Multiple-Use of Special School Facilities (특수학교의 학교시설 개방 및 시설복합화를 통한 지역사회 연계)

  • The purpose of this study was exploring perceptions of people in community towards community use and multiple-use of special school facilities and providing implications for connecting school to the communities. Survey was conducted to special education teachers, parents of children receiving special education, and local residents. Total 5,702 people participated in this study and general finds were as following: (1) All 3 groups of study participants reported that there was a generally positive perception of special schools within the community, however, at the same time, almost quarter of parents having children with disabilities reported negative perceptions of special schools in the community; (2) among the special school facilities, sports facilities appeared to be the most open to the community and difficulties related to the community-open of school facilities included facility management and safety issues, and inteference with students' school activities; (3) facilities suitable for the multi-use of special schools facilities included sports facilities, cultural and creative spaces, and commercial areas, and those facilities could be open to community during non-class hours such as after-school, weekends, and vacations. Based on the results from survey, implications for planning, designing, and implementing multi-use facilities of special schools were provided.

  • Digital braille music is an indispensible instrument for the blind persons to enjoy music and to proceed the more professional music education. Producing braille music requires professionals such as braille translators thereby it costs money for an individual to order braille music. Therefore, public libraries involve in producing and distributing braille music. Current status of digital braille music in Korea has been far from the fulfillment with the unmet needs of the blind people for diversity in their music preferences. This paper analyses the present condition of braille music possession in Korea National Library. Based on the analysis, policy proposals has been proposed.

Construction cost Prediction Model for Educational Building (학교건축의 공사비 분석 및 예측에 관한 연구)

  • Along with social changes, school buildings are getting complex and diversified unlike the past. However, objective data analysis on construction costs fall short. In particular, ordering agencies are in a great need of objective and practical construction cost management for on-budget construction and procurement of quality goods. This paper analyzes the design diagram for a newly built school with an order from the Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education, and compares the analysis with those of other kinds of buildings. The results are: the total construction cost of one school unit is 8,017,596,000 won on average; the cost is in the order of building, machinery and equipment, electricity, communications and civil engineering; as to activity, RC construction takes account of $30.3\%$ of the total construction cost. 1'he cost of school construction per M2 is 838,000 won, which is 6th highest of 11 kinds of constructions and slightly lower than 950,000 won, the average price of comparative constructions. When it comes to the percentage, school building takes mote percentage of the total cost than comparative building while machinery and equipment, electricity and communications takes slightly less percentage. Through simple regression analysis of gross coverage, this paper suggests a model formula with which the total construction cost, construction cost in accordance with activity, how much main construction materials are to be used are predictable.

Concrete Class Plan for a Statistical Project of 5th Graders in Elementary School Using Infographics (인포그래픽을 활용한 초등학교 5학년 통계 프로젝트 수업의 구체화 방안)

  • The 2015 revised mathematics curriculum encourages students to use graphs in newspapers and the Internet as materials when teaching graphs, and to experience a series of statistical problem-solving processes that collect, classify, organize, graph and interpret data. The graphs that the students learn through traditional textbooks were a single type of graphs. In particular, the graphs of the 5th and 6th grade groups were only increased in numbers, but the basic concepts were repeated in the 3rd and 4th grades. Fortunately, from the 2009 revision curriculum, it is possible to select the graph suitable for the situation while comparing the characteristics of some graphs. In most cases, the graphs used in the real world are presented in the form of a compounded infographics. The purpose of this study is to analyze and analyze the manifestations of information processing competence elements emphasized in the 2015 revised curriculum through the statistical project class using the informal graphic in the fifth grade of elementary school. And we suggested a concrete class plan.

The Influence of Textbooks Applying Gamification Motivation Strategy on Learners' Interest: Social Textbooks for 3rd Graders in Elementary School (게이미피케이션 동기 전략을 적용한 교과서가 학습자의 흥미에 미치는 영향: 초등 3학년 사회 교과서를 중심으로)

  • The social studies, mathematics, and science textbooks of the elementary curriculum will begin to be authorized from 2022. This study explores the effect of textbooks based on a gamification motivation strategy on learner interest. For this purpose, this study analyzes whether the systematic application of the gamification motivation strategy to elementary studies textbooks, which will be authorized from 2022, can develop this textbook into a "learner-centered curriculum book that induces interest." More specifically, this study applied Kumsung Publishing's experimental social studies textbooks in class and conducted a questionnaire among 121 third graders to verify the effectiveness of the textbooks. The results show that studies textbooks based on a gamification motivation strategy greatly influence increased learner interest in the classroom. The textbooks also represent a positive influence in learner understanding, interest, and curiosity regarding the class content and assistance. Demonstrating that gamification motivation strategy is worthwhile to actively apply in future textbook development for the enhancement of learners' interests, this study is significant in that it has presented a meaningful textbook development model.

Development and Validation of Academic Motivation Scale for Medical Students based on Self-Determination Theory (자기 결정성 이론에 근거한 의과대학생 학업 동기 척도 개발과 타당화)

  • This study is to develop and validate the academic motivation scale for medical students(AMSMS) based on self-determination theory. After composing preliminary questions from 74 students, a preliminary and main survey were conducted with 148 and 300 students from September to November 2020. Factor analysis, reliability analysis, and correlation analysis were used. As a result of exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, construct validity was verified. The fitness index of the five-factor model of amotivation, external regulation, introjected regulation, identified regulation, intrinsic motivation was good. The reliability of each factor was ranged from 0.760 to 0.933. The criterion validity of AMSMS was verified by showing a correlation with academic self-efficacy and school life satisfaction. This results show that the AMSMS is both valid and reliable, and it is expected to be used in research related to academic motivation of medical students in the future.
