Tao Xingzhi's School Establishment and Management Practice and Educational Thought of School Education (도행지(陶行知)의 학교 설립 및 운영을 통해 본 학교교육관 탐색)

  • This study aimed to extract Tao Xingzhi's (陶行知, 1891-1946) ideas about formal education by investigating his school establishment and management practices. Tao Xingzhi established and operated various schools to provide educational opportunities. The objective of his school establishment was to expand the range of subjects. Tao provided whole-person education at his schools, and the subject matter was based on his life education theory. Tao combined teaching, learning, and activity to reform the pedagogical process, and his school operations were institutionalized and democratically managed. These aspects were comprised of Tao's ideas about formal education. Tao's ideas might offer valuable implications for the development of formal education.

The Effect of Learners' Perception on Parents Academic Involvement on Career Maturity in Elementary School Students: Focusing on the Mediating Effects of Academic Self-Efficacy and School Adjustment (초등학생들이 지각한 부모의 교육적 관여가 진로성숙도에 미치는 영향: 학업적 자기효능감과 학교생활적응의 매개효과)

  • This study examined the relationships between learners' perception on parents academic involvement, academic self-efficacy, school adjustment, and career maturity, and also to analyze the hypothetical structural equation model relating three independent variables to career maturity. The participants were 443 sixth grade children(218 boys and 225 girls). The findings are as follows. career maturity positively showed the highest correlations with learners' perception on parent academic involvement, and academic self-efficacy. The findings revealed that learners' perception on parent academic involvement indirectly influenced career maturity mediated by academic self-efficacy and school adjustment. Furthermore, school adjustment displayed the highest direct effect on career maturity, whereas learners' perception on parent academic involvement showed the highest indirect effect on career maturity. It was discussed to develop and mange career program, career education, and career counseling effectively for elementary school children.

Elementary School Teachers' Perceptions on the Use of Educational Programs in Science Museums (과학관 교육 프로그램 활용에 대한 초등학교 교사들의 인식)

  • This study examined the elementary school teachers' present utilization of science museums in teaching-learning and their perceptions of the educational programs in science museums. The results indicate that teachers have not utilized science museums as intimately as possible with formal instruction, therefore, the students' experiences of science museums are usually limited. The main reasons for lower than optimum usage of science museums in their teaching and learning is not because of its insignificant educational effects, but because of the lack of external and administrative support mechanisms. The elementary school teachers prefer to commit to programs in science museums such as science camps or experiment activities, and those exhibitions which have some kind of clear and discernable relation to the school curriculum. The results also indicate that most teachers want to participate in the various activities of science museums, such as developing and managing the programs or pre- and post activities for museum field trips, participating in the teachers' community in science museums, and so on.

  • 천체투영관은 과학관이나 천문교육 시설에서 관람객이나 피교육자가 많이 찾는 인기 시설 중 하나이며 연간 200만 명이 방문하는 비형식학습의 준비된 장소이다. 현재 국내에 운영되고 있는 약 80여개의 천체투영관들은 대부분 별자리 해설과 돔영상물 상영, 과학콘서트, 천체관음악회, 전문가 강연 등의 프로그램을 운영하고 있다. 이제 국내에서도 설계된 비형식 학습 환경을 갖춘 천체투영관을 천문학 교육에 효율적으로 활용할 수 있도록 학교교육과 연계된 프로그램을 개발하고 운영하는 방안이 연구되어야 한다. 해외 과학관에서 운영되고 있는 비형식 과학교육과 학교 과학교육의 연계 프로그램의 사례 등을 조사하고 국내 천체투영관에서 활용할 수 있는 천문학 교육 연계 프로그램을 개발하는 것이 시급하다. 이번 발표에서는 개편된 교육과정이 반영된 연계 프로그램에 대해 소개하고 천체투영관을 천문학 교육에 효율적으로 활용할 수 있는 방안에 대해 관계자들의 의견을 듣고자 한다.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the educational methods and the educational effects using the cloud chamber in order to help young people to understand the nuclear energy and the ionizing radiation. In this study, we surveyed not only the history and the value of the cloud chamber as an hands-on exhibit in the science museum, but the case study on the nuclear hands-on education and the nuclear out-of-school education using the cloud chamber. And we analysed the satisfaction degree of participants in the out-of-school education using the cloud chamber in the science museum.

  • If the philosophy of the curriculum is changed when the curriculum is revised, discussion about knowledge viewpoints in the changed philosophy is needed. The purpose of this thesis is to analyze elementary mathematics textbooks(EMT) based on the perspective of constructivism knowledge as basic philosophy of the 7th curriculum and the 2007 revised curriculum and to present aim of textbooks development through the results. According to the results, the number and operation units of 1st and 2nd grades of EMT compiled according to the 7th curriculum and the 2007 revised curriculum didn't reflect the perspective of constructivism knowledge as the philosophy of the curriculum. From the analysis, EMT were not composed so as to agree the perspective of constructivism knowledge that emphasize concepts, conceptua1 principles, variety, integration.

  • This study is about the position and role of the school district library media director in the USA in order to introduce and promote this position in Korea. It will help support the 'Master Plan for Promoting School Library: Making Good School Library' launched by the Korean Ministry of Education & Human Resources Development. For the research. the position and role of the school district library media director was researched by literature review, observation, questionnaire, and interview methods. Establishing the position of the school library media director in districts is necessary to promote school libraries in Korea. Finally, it suggests that the major of the school district library media director is library and information sciences. The school library media director should have technology knowledge, educational skills, leadership as an administrator, strong communication skills with their school librarians. advocator skill as well as have a wide knowledge in library and information sciences.

  • 이 대담 시리즈는 학교도서관에 대한 도서관계 안팎의 관심을 높이고 현단계 학교도서관 운동이 나아갈 길을 모색해보려는 취지에서 시도된 것이다. 과거 학교도서관 운동을 주도하였거나 오랫동안 학교도서관 현장을 지켜온 인물들을 찾아 그들의 경험과 의식 속에 쌓여 있는 역사를 끌어내어 오늘을 비추어 보고 내일을 전망하는 계기로 삼을 것이다. 이번 대담에서 만난 사람은 우리 나라 학교도서관 운동의 초창기에 많은 활동을 한 조재후 선생이다. 선생은 부산중, 경남여고, 부산고 등에서 10년간 (1953-1963) 사서교사로 활동하면서 학교도서관 운동의 지평을 넓히는데 크게 기여하였으며 부산시 교육위원회 연구사 및 장학사(1963-1972), 문교부 중앙 시청 각교육원 연구관(1972-1973), 문교부 장학관 (1973-1975), 서울시 동부 교육구청장(1980-1982) 등으로 활동하셨다. 또한 영등포중, 혜화여고, 용산공고, 경기상고 등에서 교장으로 재직하시고 정년퇴임후 현재 서울 정화여자상업고등학교 교장으로 재직하고 계신다. 대담 일시 : 1998년 5월 2일 오전9시 30분 - 오전 11시 30분 대담 장소 : 서울 정화여상 교장실

Analysis of relationship between exhibitions of public astronomical science museums and science curriculum revision, 2009 (천문과학관의 전시자료와 2009 개정 과학과 교육과정과의 관련성 분석)

  • Since Daejeon observatory has been built as the first astronomical science museum(ASM) whose theme is astronomy and space, many ASMs have been built or are being built by the governmental support. ASMs are requested to perform an important role as the educational venue that can be experienced the scientific activities for supplementing regular science education. This study investigated the analysis of the connection to astronomy-related contents of science curriculum revised in 2009 for exhibits of 17 ASMs. As a result, exhibits of ASMs show the low reflectivity to science curriculum and are very biased to standard of accomplishment. That is, they are not sufficient enough for the students to reach the learning objectives. However the astronomical scientific activities which are hard to be performed in regular school curriculum can be experienced at ASMs. Additionally, since exhibits of ASMs are easy to access and accept, they can provide the effective educational activities and learning effect. Therefore, ASMs have to be improved for supplementing regular science education through the informal curriculum of astronomical scientific activities by the producing and displaying good astronomy-related exhibits.

Korean Mathematics Teachers' Views on Education and Teacher Efficacy (우리나라 수학교사의 교육에 대한 인식과 교사효능감에 대한 조사 연구)

  • This study investigated mathematics teachers' views on education, teacher efficacy, and the relationship of teacher efficacy and Confucian Heritage Culture's views on education. In particular, the differences on the basis of teachers' teaching experience and academic level were examined. We identified teachers' views on education by investigating their views on the purpose of education and examining whether they support the perspectives of teaching and learning in Confucian Heritage Culture. The questionnaire was answered by a total of 572 elementary teachers and secondary mathematics teachers. The results of this survey revealed that mathematics teachers have both Confucian Heritage Culture's view and Western view on education and quiet strong teacher efficacy. The views on education differed by academic levels, but there were no differences in teaching experiences. The teacher efficacy was differed by both academic levels and teaching experiences. The correlation between teacher efficacy and Confucian Heritage Culture's view on education was low. Findings were discussed with regard to their implications for both Korean mathematics education and mathematics teachers' teaching practice.
