  • A sea dike in the Yeongsan River estuary was constructed in 1981 to supply water and reclaim tidal flats for agriculture, separating the estuary into the freshwater and seawater zones. However, the sluice gates are frequently opened and freshwater is discharged in summer when more rainfall is recorded than other seasons, then converting the estuary to brackish water system. In this study, the direct effect of freshwater discharge was investigated by monitoring daily variation in water properties and phytoplankton size structure before and after the freshwater discharge events from 2013 to 2015. Freshwater discharge resulted in a sharp decrease in salinity and dissolved oxygen (DO) at surface water whereas it increased the turbidity of water column. However, salinity did not decrease sharply in 2014 when freshwater was discharged one day before the monitoring and salinity remained low prior to the monitoring. Levels of nutrients especially dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN) increased after the discharge and this contributed to potential limitation of nutrients such as P or Si rather than N in the estuary. Freshwater discharge also caused the changes in phytoplankton biomass (chlorophyll a) and size structure although their responses were different between years. The changes may affect growth of grazers and thus structure of marine food web by alternating food availability in the Yeongsan River estuary.

  • The stability of the gravity quay wall against earthquakes is evaluated on the basis of the allowable displacement of the wall. To estimate the displacement caused by external forces, empirical equations based on the Newmark sliding block method or numerical analysis are widely used. In numerical analysis, it is possible to analyze precisely a complicated site and structure, but difficult to set the appropriate parameters and environments; there are limitations in obtaining reliable results, depending on one's level of expertise. The Newmark method, with only seismic motions, is widely used because it is simpler than numerical simulations when estimating permanent displacement. However, the empirical equations do not have any parameters for the response characteristics and sliding block of the structure, and sliding blocks being assumed as rigid bodies does not consider the nonlinear behavior of the soil and interaction with the structure. Therefore, in order to evaluate the seismic stability of the gravity quay wall, a newly-developed empirical equation is needed to overcome the above-mentioned limitations. In this study, numerical simulations are performed to analyze the response characteristics of the backfill of the structure, and to propose an optimal method of calculating the active area. For this purpose, finite element analyses were performed to analyze the response characteristics, and stress-strain relationships for various seismic motions. As a result, the response characteristics, sliding block, and failure surface of the backfill vary depending on the input seismic motions.

  • Behaviors of splices between bolts and welding spliced PHC piles using the tensile strength test were analyzed. The bolts spliced PHC piles, which were tightened over $200N{\cdot}m$ tightening torque, showed straight V shaped line at splices at the lowest 20 N load. Both sides of PHC piles stayed straight, so the full section of bolts spliced piles did not show the unifying behavior, which was the most important performance requirement as pile. Other bolts spliced PHC piles, tightened with $20N{\cdot}m$ loosening torque, also showed the same straight V shaped line at splices for each step of loading. The full section of bolts spliced piles did not return to the initial position after each step of unloading and did not show the elastic material behavior. The splices quality of bolts spliced piles is much lower than that of welding spliced piles with respect to displacement of splices during each step of loadings, residual displacements during each step of unloadings, and failure loads. Results showed that bolts spliced PHC piles, tightened with both over $200N{\cdot}m$ and as low as $20N{\cdot}m$ torque, fell short of performance requirements of spliced PHC pile.

  • This article aims to develop various cultural contents from Sam-guk Sokakgasa(korean folksongs in ancient times) through analyzing features of it with narrative structures and discourse forms of Seymour Chatman. Rhythms and rhymes of the Sam-guk Sokakgasa hardly exist, only brief stories about the origins of songs are present. However, with interactions of current cultual contents, a brandnew cultural content can be developed from Sam-guk Sokakgasa through creative modification. In this view, narrative structures of Sam-guk Sokakgasa was analyzed using Seymour Chatman's method. Through this analysis, it can be concluded that Sam-guk Sokakgasa has complete narrative structures, thus can be developed into new cultural contents by media interaction. And it can be also said that in cases which Sam-guk Sokakgasa has weak narrative structure, if its narrative structure has enough universality, it also can be developed as cultural contents.

  • Traditionally, most malicious codes have been analyzed using feature information extracted by domain experts. However, this feature-based analysis method depends on the analyst's capabilities and has limitations in detecting variant malicious codes that have modified existing malicious codes. In this study, we propose a ResNet-Variational AutoEncder-based variant malware classification method that can classify a family of variant malware without domain expert intervention. The Variational AutoEncoder network has the characteristics of creating new data within a normal distribution and understanding the characteristics of the data well in the learning process of training data provided as input values. In this study, important features of malicious code could be extracted by extracting latent variables in the learning process of Variational AutoEncoder. In addition, transfer learning was performed to better learn the characteristics of the training data and increase the efficiency of learning. The learning parameters of the ResNet-152 model pre-trained with the ImageNet Dataset were transferred to the learning parameters of the Encoder Network. The ResNet-Variational AutoEncoder that performed transfer learning showed higher performance than the existing Variational AutoEncoder and provided learning efficiency. Meanwhile, an ensemble model, Stacking Classifier, was used as a method for classifying variant malicious codes. As a result of learning the Stacking Classifier based on the characteristic data of the variant malware extracted by the Encoder Network of the ResNet-VAE model, an accuracy of 98.66% and an F1-Score of 98.68 were obtained.

  • Breaking waves generated by wave shoaling in coastal areas have a close relationship with various physical phenomena in coastal regions, such as sediment transport, longshore currents, and shock wave pressure. Therefore, it is crucial to accurately predict breaker index such as breaking wave height and breaking depth, when designing coastal structures. Numerous scientific efforts have been made in the past by many researchers to identify and predict the breaking phenomenon. Representative studies on wave breaking provide many empirical formulas for the prediction of breaking index, mainly through hydraulic model experiments. However, the existing empirical formulas for breaking index determine the coefficients of the assumed equation through statistical analysis of data under the assumption of a specific equation. In this paper, we applied a representative linear-based supervised machine learning algorithms that show high predictive performance in various research fields related to regression or classification problems. Based on the used machine learning methods, a model for prediction of the breaking index is developed from previously published experimental data on the breaking wave, and a new linear equation for prediction of breaker index is presented from the trained model. The newly proposed breaker index formula showed similar predictive performance compared to the existing empirical formula, although it was a simple linear equation.

  • Neo-Confucianism of Myungjae Yoon Jeung either accepted Yulgok Neo-Confucianism as it was or modified it. In this study, his Neo-Confucianism was divided into acceptance and modification in Yulgok Neo-Confucianism and examined. In the acceptance of Yulgok Neo-Confucianism, it was clarified that Neo-Confucianism of Myungjae Yoon Jeung thoroughly inherited characteristics of Yulgok Neo-Confucianism, including 'Yiguijimyo', 'Yitongguiguk' and 'Guibalyiseungildo'. However, Myungjae was not just satisfied with inheriting Yulgok Neo-Confucianism as it was, but modified and inherited the theory of Yulgok by suggesting his own original preaching. There were three original preaching of his in overall; 'emphasis on the control of Li', 'argument method on a theory of gaining knowledge by the study of things', and 'perception on moral mind, human mind and human desire'. Ultimately, it is concluded that Myungjae modified, inherited and developed Yulgok Neo-Confucianism to adjust a theory of Neo-Confucianism in a position of 'Yiguijimyo', based on 'a theory of Guibalyiseungildo' of Yulgok as a Confucian scholar of Giho school. It is consistent with his life philosophy that he avoided speculative arguments on Neo-Confucianism and pursued solid study(實工) with solid mind(實心). It is also consistent with his view of learning that he believed that theories of ancient sages were already rich that we should read them and practice their true knowledge(眞知), and making an effort on writing regardless of them was not a study of Mushil(務實). However, due to his younger students, he was classified as a scholar who emphasized the control of 'Li' the most in Yulgok school, and a new academic tie of Giho Soron was created. It is the most important significance that Neo-Confucianism of Myungjae has in that of Giho.

  • ASVspoof 2017 deals with detection of replay attacks and aims to classify real human voices and fake voices. The spoofed voice refers to the voice that reproduces the original voice by different types of microphones and speakers. data augmentation research on image data has been actively conducted, and several studies have been conducted to attempt data augmentation on voice. However, there are not many attempts to augment data for voice replay attacks, so this paper explores how audio modification through data augmentation techniques affects the detection of replay attacks. A total of 7 data augmentation techniques were applied, and among them, dynamic value change (DVC) and pitch techniques helped improve performance. DVC and pitch showed an improvement of about 8% of the base model EER, and DVC in particular showed noticeable improvement in accuracy in some environments among 57 replay configurations. The greatest increase was achieved in RC53, and DVC led to an approximately 45% improvement in base model accuracy. The high-end recording and playback devices that were previously difficult to detect were well identified. Based on this study, we found that the DVC and pitch data augmentation techniques are helpful in improving performance in the voice spoofing detection problem.

  • The EPB (Earth Pressure Balanced) shield TBM method restrains the ground deformation through continuous excavation and support. Still, the significant surface settlement occurs due to the ground conditions, tunnel dimensions, and construction conditions. Therefore, it is necessary to clarify the settlement behavior with its influence factors and evaluate the possible settlement during construction. In this study, the analytical model of surface settlement based on the influence factors and their mechanisms were proposed. Then, the parametric study for controllable factors during excavation was conducted by numerical method. Through the numerical analysis, the settlement behavior according to the construction conditions was quantitatively derived. Then, the qualitative trend according to the ground conditions was visualized by coupling the numerical results with the analytical model of settlement. Based on the results of this study, it is expected to contribute to the derivation of the settlement prediction algorithm for EPB shield TBM excavation.

  • Water supplies are decreasing in comparison to increasing clean water demands. Using nanofiltration is one of the most effective and economical methods to meet the need for clean water. Common methods for desalination are reverse osmosis and nanofiltration. However, pristine membranes lack the essential features which are, stability, economic efficiency, antibacterial and antifouling performances. To enhance the properties of the pristine membranes, graphene oxide (GO) is a promising and widely researched material for thin film composites (TFC) membrane due to their characteristics that help improve the hydrophilicity and anti-fouling properties. Modification of the membrane can be done on different layers. The thin film composite membranes are composed of three different layers, the top filtering active thin polyamide (PA) layer, supporting porous layer, and supporting fabric. Forward osmosis (FO) process is yet another energy efficient desalination process, but its efficiency is affected due to biofouling. Incorporation of GO enhance antibacterial properties leading to reduction of biofilm formation on the membrane surface. Pressure retarded osmosis (PRO) is an excellent process to generate clean energy from sea water and the biofouling of membrane is reduced by introduction of GO into the active layer of the TFC membrane. Different modifications on the membranes are being researched, each modification with its own advantages and disadvantages. In this review, modifications of nanofiltration membranes and their composites, characterization, and performances are discussed.
