Because maglev trains have a propulsion and absorption force without contact with the rails, they can drive safely at high-speed with little oscillation. Recently, test model of a maglev propulsion train was produced and operated, and has since been chosen as a national growth industry in South Korea; there have been many studies and considerable investment in these fields. This study examined the dynamic responses due to bridge-maglev train interaction and basic material to design bridges for maglev trains travelling at high-speed. Depending on the major factors affecting the dynamic effects, the scope of this study was restricted to the relationship between dynamic responses. A concrete box girder was chosen as a bridge model and injured train and rail types in domestic production were selected as the moving train load and guideway analysis model, respectively. From the analysis results, the natural frequency of a bridge for a maglev train, which has a deflection limit L/2000, was higher than those of bridges for general trains. The dynamic responses of the girder of the bridge for a maglev train showed a substantial increase in proportion to the velocities of the moving train like other general bridge cases. Maximum dynamic response of the girder is shown at a moving velocity of 240km/h and increased with increasing moving velocity of train. These results can be used to design a bridge for maglev propulsion trains and provide the basic data to confirm the validity and verification of the design code.
In this paper, the standard fire resistance test under load and associated numerical study were carried out to evaluate the fire resistance of unprotected partially encased beams and slimfloor beams. The temperature evolution and the deflection increase of the composite beam specimens were investigated and the effects of the key behavioral parameters including the load ratio, the reinforcement, and the fire exposure were analyzed. The test results showed that the temperature rise of the partially encased beams and slimfloor beams is considerably slow compared to the conventional H-shape composite beams. Up to at least 90 minutes, the reinforcements in the partially encased composite beams maintained below the temperature at which the cold steel strength is sustained. Unprotected partially encased beams and slimfloor beams in the experimental program achieved the fire resistance more than 2 hours according to the limiting deflection criteria. This implies that unprotected partially encased beams and slimfloor beams can be very promising alternatives to enhancing the fire resistance of steel beams. This study also conducted the fully coupled thermal-stress analysis by using the commercial code ABAQUS to the thermal and structural behaviour of composite beams in fire. The numerical predictions provide acceptable correlations with the experimental results.

A series of test was performed measuring the failure strength and failure mode of Gr/Pi, $[0^{\circ}/45^{\circ}/90^{\circ}/-45^{\circ}]_s$ laminate containing a single pin loaded hole. The finite element method is applied to calculate the stress distribution in the laminates, then the failure load and the failure mode were predicted by means of the characteristic length. 12 different geometric variations were developed to analyze the effects of the ratio of specimen width to hole diameter (W/d) and ratio of edge distance to hole diameter (L/d). X-Ray of NDE methods were utilized in finding out the initial defects, damage and the fracture mechanism, and SEM(Scanning Electron Microscopes) was used the evaluation of the fracture mechanism and crack propagation around hole under tension pin loading. $[0^{\circ}/45^{\circ}/90^{\circ}/-45^{\circ}]_s$ laminate are found to be most sensitive to W/d but not so influenced by L/d. The failure mode and tensile strength predicted by the model show agreement with experiment data for pin loading bolted jointed test except range of $L/d{\leqq}3$.
With the current move towards adopting mechanistic-empirical concepts in the design of pavement structures, state-of-the-art mechanistic analysis methodologies are needed to determine accurate pavement responses, such as stress, strain, and deformation. Previous laboratory studies of pavement foundation geomaterials, i.e., unbound granular materials used in base/subbase layers and fine-grained soils of a prepared subgrade, have shown that the resilient responses followed by nonlinear, stress-dependent behavior under repeated wheel loading. This nonlinear behavior is commonly characterized by stress-dependent resilient modulus material models that need to be incorporated into finite element (FE) based mechanistic pavement analysis methods to predict more realistically predict pavement responses for a mechanistic pavement analysis. Developed user material subroutine using aforementioned resilient model with nonlinear solution technique and convergence scheme with proven performance were successfully employed in general-purpose FE program, ABAQUS. This numerical analysis was investigated in predicted critical responses and domain selection with specific mesh generation was implemented to evaluate better prediction of pavement responses. Results obtained from both axisymmetric and three-dimensional (3D) nonlinear FE analyses were compared and remarkable findings were described for nonlinear FE analysis. The UMAT subroutine performance was also validated with the instrumented full scale pavement test section study results from the Federal Aviation Administration's National Airport Pavement Test Facility (FAA's NAPTF).

When reinforced concrete structures are exposed to fire, their mechanical properties such as compressive strength, elasticity coefficient and rebar yield strength, are degraded. Therefore, the structure's damage assessment is essential in determining whether to dismantle or augment the structure after a fire. In this study, the confinement effect of lateral reinforcement of RC column according to the numbers of fire exposure face and stirrup was verified by fire resistant test with the heating temperatures of $400^{\circ}C$, $600^{\circ}C$ and $800^{\circ}C$. The test results showed that the peak stress decreases and peak strain increases as the temperature is getting higher, also transverse ties are helpful in improving the compressive resistance of concrete subjected to high temperature. Based on the results of this study, the residual stress of confined concrete under thermal damage is higher at the condition of more lateral reinforcement ratio and less fire exposure faces. The decreasing ratio of elastic modulus of more confined and less exposure faces from the relationship of load and displacement was also smaller than that of opposite conditions.

An end-line flame arrester allows free venting in combination with flame protection for vertical vent applications. End-line flame arresters are employed in various fields, especially in shipping. In flame arresters, springs are essential parts because the spring load and the spring's elasticity determine the hood opening moment. In addition, the spring has to work under a high-temperature condition because of the burning gas flame. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the mechanical load and elasticity of the spring when the flame starts to appear. Based on simulations of the working process of a specific end-line flame arrester, a thermal and structural analysis of the spring is performed. A three-dimensional model of a burned spring is built using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation. Results of the CFD analysis are input into a finite element method simulation to analyze the spring structure. The research team focused on three cases of spring loads: 43, 93, and 56 kg, correspondingly, at 150 mm of spring deflection. Consequently, the spring load was reduced by 10 kg after 5 min under a $1,000^{\circ}C$ heat condition. The simulation results can be used to predict and estimate the spring's load and elasticity at the burning time variation. Moreover, the obtained outcome can provide the industry with references to optimize the design of the spring as well as that of the flame arrester.

In general, a reinforced concrete slabs are known to have a high fire resistance performance due to thermal properties of concrete materials. However, according to previous research, the thermal behavior of voided slabs is reported to be different from that of conventional RC solid slabs, and the differences seem to be caused by the air layer formed inside the voided slab. Therefore, it is difficult to estimate the temperature distribution of the voided slab under fire by using the existing methods that do not take into account the air layer inside the voided slab. In this study, a numerical analysis model was proposed to estimate the temperature distribution of voided slabs under fire, and evaluated. Heat transfer of slabs under fire is generally caused by conduction, convection and radiation, and time-dependent temperature changes of slab can be determined considering these phenomena. This study proposed a numerical method to estimate the temperature distribution of voided slabs under fire based on a finite difference method in which a cross-section of the slab is divided into a number of layers. This method is also developed to allow consideration of heat transfer through convection and radiation in air layer inside of slabs. In addition, the proposed model was also validated by comparison with the experimental results, and the results showed that the proposed model appropriately predicts the temperature distribution of voided slabs under fire.
This study focused on the prediction of the long-term performance of carbon fiber/epoxy composites using Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA) and Time-Temperature Superposition (TTS). Single-frequency test, multi-frequency test, and creep TTS test were performed. A sinusoidal load of $20{\mu}m$ amplitude was applied while increasing the temperature from $-30^{\circ}C$ to $240^{\circ}C$ at $2^{\circ}C/min$ for the single-frequency test and the multi-frequency test. The frequencies applied to the multi-frequency test were 0.316, 1, 3.16, 10 and 31.6 Hz. In the creep TTS test, a stress of 15 MPa was applied for 10 minutes at every $10^{\circ}C$ from $-30^{\circ}C$ to $230^{\circ}C$. The glass transition temperature was determined by single-frequency test. The activation energy and the storage modulus curve for each temperature were obtained from glass transition temperature for each frequency by the multi-frequency test. The master curve for the reference temperature was obtained by applying the shift factor using the Arrhenius equation. Also, TTS test was used to obtain the creep compliance curves for each temperature and the master curve for the reference temperature by applying the shift factors using the manual shift technique. The master curve obtained through this process can be applied to predict the long-term performance of carbon fiber/epoxy composites for a given environmental condition.
In general typically granular soils contain a certain amount of fines. It is also widely recognized that foundation soils under working loads show highly non-linear behavior from very early stages of loading. In the present study, a series of laboratory tests with sands of different silt contents are conducted and methods to assess strength and stiffiness characteristics are proposed. Modified hyperbolic stress-strain model is used to analyze non-linearity of silty sands in terms of non-linear Degradation parameters f and g as a function of silt contents and Relative density Dr. Stress-strain curves were obtained from a series of triaxial tests on sands containing different amounts of silt. Initial shear modulus, which is used to normalize Degradation modulus of silty sands, was determined from resonant column test results. From the laboratory test results, it was observed that, as the Relative density increases, values of f decrease and those of g increase. In addition, it was found that values of f and g increase and decrease respectively as a Skeleton void ratio $(e_{sk})$ increases.
The utility tunnels are the important facility as a mainstay of country because of the latest communication developments. However, the utilities tunnel is difficult to deal with in case of a fire accident. When a cable burns, the black smoke containing poisonous gas will be reduced. This black smoke goes into the tunnel, and makes it difficult to extinguish the fire. Therefore, when there was a fire in the utility tunnel, the central nerves of the country had been paralyzed, such as property damage, communication interruption, in addition to inconvenience for people. This paper is based on the fire occurred in the past, and reenacting the fire by making the real utilities tunnel model. The aim of this paper is the scientific analysis of the character image of the fire, and the verification of each fire protection system whether it works well after process of setting up a fire protection system in the utilities tunnel at a constant temperature. The fire experiment was equipped with the linear heat detector, the fire door, the connection water spray system and the ventilation system in the utilities tunnel. Fixed portion of an electric power supply cable was coated with a fire retardant coating, and a heating tube was covered with a fireproof. The result showed that the highest temperature was $932^{\circ}c$ and the linear heat detector was working at the constant temperature, and it pointed at the place of the fire on the receiving board, and Fixed portion of the electric power supply cable coated with the fire retardant coating did not work as the fireproof. The heating tube was covered with the fireproof about 30 minutes.
