Industrial control systems that manage and maintain various industries were mainly operated in closed environment without external connection, but with the recent development of the Internet and the introduction of ICT technology, the access to the industrial control system of external or attackers has become easier. Such incorrect approaches or attacks can undermine the availability, a major attribute of the industrial control system, and violation of availability can cause great damage. In this paper, when issuing commands in an industrial control system, a verification group is formed using a random list to verify and execute commands, and a trust score technique is introduced that applies feedback to the verification group that conducted verification using the command execution result. This technique can reduce overhead generated by random generation in the process of requesting command verification, give flexibility to the verification process, and ensure system availability. For the performance analysis of the system, we measured the time and gas usage when deploying a smart contract, gas usage when verifying a command. As a result, we confirmed that although the proposed system generates a random list compared to the legacy system, there was little difference in the time when it took to deploy smart contract and that the gas used to deploy smart contract increased by about 1.4 times in the process of generating a random list. However, the proposed system does not perform random operations even though the operation of command verification and confidence score technique is performed together during the command verification process, thus it uses about 9% less gas per verification, which ensures availability in the verification process.

The Quercus mongolica has a high utilization value in industrial economic sector. The species is distributed throughout Korea, however, the damage caused by deterioration such as discoloration and decay is severe. For this reason, the deterioration of Q. mongolica is an obstacle to its use as wood, but research on deterioration factors is insufficient. In this study, we focused on fungi as a factor influencing the deterioration of Q. mongolica, and isolated and identified the fungi from the deteriorated Q. mongolica. In additions, in order to confirm whether the identified fungi actually affects wood deterioration, enzyme activities of the identified fungi were evaluated and related mass loss of wood treated with the fungi was measured by wood decay test. As a result of sequencing analysis using the ITS region of the genomic DNA of the fungi isolated from Q. mongolica, Mucor circinelloides, Cunninghamella elegans, and Umbelopsis isabellina 3 species belonging to Mucoromycota phylum, and Ophiostoma piceae and Aureobasidium melanogenum 2 species belonging to Ascomycota phylum were identified. These five fungi had enzyme (i.e. cellulase, laccase) activities related to wood decay and reduced the mass of heartwood and sapwood of Q. mongolica in practice. In particular, O. piceae and A. melanogenum, which have both cellulase and laccase activities, showed 6.9% and 1.5% mass loss, respectively. These results indicated that five fungi identified in this study influence the deterioration of Q. mongolica and are wood decaying fungi for Q. mongolica potentially.
Specific survey objectives often cannot be met using only one geophysical method, as each method's results are influenced by the specific physical properties of subsurface materials. In particular, areas susceptible to geological hazards require investigation using more than one method in order to reduce risks to life and property. Instead of analyzing the results from each method separately, this work develops a four-quadrant criterion for classifying areas of levees as safe or weak. The assessment is based on statistically determined thresholds of seismic velocity (P-wave velocity from seismic refraction and S-wave velocity from multichannel analysis of surface waves) and electrical resistivity. Thresholds are determined by subtracting the standard deviation from the mean during performance testing of this correlation technique applied to model data of four horizontal and inclined fracture zones. Compared with results from the crossplot of resistivity and P-wave velocity, crossplot analysis using resistivity and S-wave velocity data provides more reliable information on the soil type, ground stiffness, and lithological characteristics of the levee system. A loose and sandy zone (represented by low S-wave velocity and high resistivity) falling within the second quadrant is interpreted to be a weak zone. This interpretation is well supported by the N values from standard penetrating test for the central core.

Influenza viruses are zoonotic respiratory pathogens, and influenza infections have caused a substantial burden on public health systems and the livestock industry. Although currently approved seasonal influenza vaccines have shown potent protection efficacy against antigenically well-matched strains, there are considerable unmet needs for the efficient control of viral infections. Enormous efforts have been made to develop broadly protective universal influenza vaccines to tackle the huge levels of genetic diversity and variability of influenza viruses. In addition, antiviral drugs have been considered important interventions for the treatment of viral infections. The viral neuraminidase inhibitor oseltamivir is the most widely used antiviral medication to treat influenza A and influenza B viruses. However, unsatisfactory clinical outcomes resulting from side effects and the emergence of resistant variants have led to greater attention being paid to plants as a natural resource for anti-influenza drugs. In particular, the recent COVID-19 pandemic has underpinned the need for safe and effective antiviral drugs with a broad spectrum of antiviral activity to prevent the rapid spread of viruses among humans. This review outlines the results of the antiviral activities of various natural products isolated from plants against influenza viruses. Special focus is paid to the virucidal effects and the immune-enhancing effects of antiviral natural products, since the products have broad applications as inactivating agents for the preparation of inactivated vaccines and vaccine adjuvants.

The frequency of flash floods in mountainous areas is increasing due to the abnormal weather that occurs increasingly in the recent, and it causes human and material damages is increasing. Various plans for disaster mitigation have been established, but artificial plans such as raising embankment and dredging operation are inappropriate for valleys and rivers in national parks that prioritize nature protection. In this study, flood risk assessment was conducted for Gyeryongsan National Park in Korea using the WMS (Watershed Modeling System)which is rainfall runoff model for valleys and rivers in the catchment. As the result, it was simulated that it is flooding in three sub-catchments (Jusukgol, Sutonggol, Dinghaksa) of a total in Gyeryongsan National Park when rainfall over the 50 years return period occurs, and it was confirmed that the risk of trails and facilities what visitors are using was high. The risk of trails in national parks was quantitatively presented through the results of this study, and we intend to present the safe management guidelines of national parks in the future.
The drought resulting from insufficient rainfall compared to the amount in an ordinary year can significantly impact a broad area at the same time. Another feature of this disaster is hard to recognize its onset and disappearance. Therefore, a reliable and fast way of predicting both the suffering area and the amount of water shortage from the upcoming drought is a key issue to develop a countermeasure of the disaster. However, the available drought scenarios are about 50 events that have been observed in the past. Due to the limited number of events, it is difficult to predict the water shortage in a case where the pattern of a natural disaster is different from the one in the past. To overcome the limitation, in this study, we applied the four RCP climate change scenarios to the water balance model and the annual amount of water shortage from 360 drought events was estimated. In the following chapter, the deep neural network model was trained with the SPEI values from the RCP scenarios and the amount of water shortage as the input and output, respectively. The trained model in each sub-basin enables us to easily and reliably predict the water shortage with the SPEI values in the past and the predicted meteorological conditions in the upcoming season. It can be helpful for decision-makers to respond to future droughts before their onset.
Urban flooding caused by localized heavy rainfall with unstable climate is constantly occurring, but a system that can predict spatial flood information with weather forecast has not been prepared yet. The worst flood situation in urban area can be occurred with difficulties of structural measures such as river levees, discharge capacity of urban sewage, storage basin of storm water, and pump facilities. However, identifying in advance the spatial flood information can have a decisive effect on minimizing flood damage. Therefore, this study presents a methodology that can predict the urban flood map in real-time by using rainfall data of the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA), the results of two-dimensional flood analysis and random forest (RF) regression model. The Ujeong district in Ulsan metropolitan city, which the flood is frequently occurred, was selected for the study area. The RF regression model predicted the flood map corresponding to the 50 mm, 80 mm, and 110 mm rainfall events with 6-hours duration. And, the predicted results showed 63%, 80%, and 67% goodness of fit compared to the results of two-dimensional flood analysis model. It is judged that the suggested results of this study can be utilized as basic data for evacuation and response to urban flooding that occurs suddenly.

In this paper, the floor acceleration for the seismic design of non-structural elements was evaluated using the core shape as a planar variable. Linear time history analysis using 20 models with 5 different planes and 4 different floors on each plane depending on the change in the shape (position and specific gravity) of the core in the square biaxially symmetric plane was performed. The analysis confirmed that the torsional amplification of the floor acceleration was up to 1.7 times in the plane subjected to eccentricity depending on the position of the core, and the effect of torsion was the greatest in the middle floor of the structure. In a plane where only the specific gravity of the core was changed without eccentricity, when the period was less than 0.4694 s, the maximum floor acceleration decreased in the lower floors and increased in the upper floors as the period increased. Conversely, when the period was 0.4694 s or more, it was confirmed that the floor acceleration increased in the lower part and decreased in the upper part as the period increased.
Wildfires, which occur sporadically and irregularly worldwide, are distinct natural disturbances in combustible vegetation areas, important parts of the global carbon cycle, and natural disasters that cause severe public emergencies. While many previous studies have investigated the variability and changes in wildfires globally based on fire emissions, burned areas, and fire weather indices, studies on East Asia are still limited. Here, we explore the characteristics of variability and changes in wildfire danger over East Asia by analyzing the fire weather index for the 40 years-1981-2020. The first empirical orthogonal function (EOF) mode of fire weather index variability represents an increasing trend in wildfire danger over most parts of East Asia over the last 40 years, accounting for 29% of the total variance. The major contributor is an increase in the surface temperature in East Asia associated with global warming and multidecadal ocean variations. The effect of temperature was slightly offset by the increase in soil moisture. The second EOF mode exhibits considerable interannual variability associated with the El Nino-Southern Oscillation, accounting for 17% of the total variance. The increase (decrease) in precipitation in East Asia during El Nino (La Nina) increases (decreases) soil moisture, which in turn reduces (increases) wildfire danger. This dominant soil moisture effect was slightly offset by the temperature increase (decrease) during El Nino (La Nina). Improving the understanding of variability and changes in wildfire danger will have important implications for reducing social, economic, and ecological losses associated with wildfire occurrences.

Fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda, is a invasive migratory pest of native to the tropical and sub-tropical regions that has recently invaded Korea with damage to cornfield. The study was conducted to investigate the development periods of S. frugiperda on artificial diet at six different temperatures. The developmental period from eggs to adult at 18, 21, 24, 27, 30 and 32℃ was 79.8, 54.2, 34.3, 28.4, 24.6 and 24.0 days, respectivery and decreased with increasing temperature. The pupal periods of females were shorter than males. Most of the larvae developed through six instar, but the ratio of 7 or more instar increased at low temperatures. The relationship between the development rate and temperature was fitted with by linear regression analysis. The lower development threshold for egg and larva development was 12.9℃ and 11.3℃, respectively, 12.6℃ for pupae and 11.8℃ for egg-to-adult development. The effective accumulative temperature for the development of the respective life cycle stages were 37.0 DD for eggs, 286.3 DD for larvae, 132.2 DD for pupae and 456.8 DD egg-to-adult development.
