  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of social support on suicidal ideation among the elderly at welfare centers through the mediating effect of avoidance coping style. This is a descriptive research survey of 392 elderly people at four elderly welfare centers located in G city. Data were collected from October 21 to November 8, 2019, and analyzed using the IBM SPSS/win 26.0 program by t-test, ANOVA, and the Pearson's correlation coefficient. The mediating effect was analyzed by multiple regression analysis according to Baron and Kenny's 3-step analysis procedure. Social support of the subjects was found to be high with an average score of 5.73±1.23, avoidance coping style with 12.53±3.47 points, and suicidal ideations with 6.21±2.06 points. In the correlation between the variables, suicidal ideations were negatively correlated with social support (r=-.146, p=.004) and avoidance coping style (r=.315, p<.001), and these correlations were statistically significant. There was a positive correlation. The avoidance coping style of the elderly using the welfare centers was found to partially mediate the relationship between social support and suicidal ideation (Z=-.270, p<.001). Therefore, to prevent negative emotions such as suicidal ideations in the elderly, various policies and support programs at the local and government level should be continuously implemented.

  • This study investigates the correlations between the total prostate volume (TPV), using the prostate specific antigen (PSA) and prostate specific antigen density (PSAD) as the blood test results and transrectal ultrasound (TRUS), and the prostate transition zone volume (PTZV), as well as variables such as age; the findings can be used as clinical indicators. A retrospective analysis was conducted on 68 healthy men in their 30s who underwent TRUS and PSA and PSAD blood tests from June 2007 to April 2016, with no history of treatment in their prostate. Siemens Acuson sequoia 512 and the probe Siemens EC-10C5 Endocavitary were used as the ultrasound equipment. For statistical analysis, SPSS 18.0 was used to calculate the standard deviation and mean of each variable; Pearson's correlation analysis was also performed. The descriptive statistics of the variables were $24.27{\pm}6.60$ for TPV, $6.99{\pm}6.60$ for PTZV, $2.12{\pm}2.76$ for PSA, and $0.281{\pm}0.1$ for PSAD. The coefficients of correlations between PTZV and variables were 0.831 for PSAD, 0.707 for TPV, 0.398 for age, and 0.118 for PSA. While PSA and age were positively correlated, PSAD and TPV were highly correlated. Therefore, PTZV of men in their 30s without underlying diseases can be predicted using PSAD and TPV.

  • This study investigated the relationships between sensory processing patterns and pain catastrophizing levels in well older adults to provide basic information for rehabilitation intervention. The participants of this study were 216 older adults aged over 65. The Adolescent/Adults Sensory Profile(AASP) was used to measure sensory processing patterns and the Pain Catastrophizing Scale(PCS) was employed to evaluate psychological variables of the pain. Self perception of the pain was measured with the Numerical Rating Scale(NRS). Gender and age differences were analyzed with t-test and relationships among sensory processing patterns, pain catastrophizing and pain symptom levels were analyzed with Pearson product-moment coefficients of correlation. Women had higher 'sensory sensitivity' and 'sensory avoiding.' The group over 75 years old had higher 'sensory avoiding,' 'low registration' and 'sensory seeking.' Women had higher pain catastrophizing and pain symptom levels. Negative correlations between 'rumination' and 'low registration' and 'helplessness' and 'sensory seeking' were found. Positive correlations were found between pain catastrophizing and pain symptom levels when they were 'sensory sensitivity' and 'sensory avoiding.' The results infer that sensory processing patterns are associated with psychological variables of the pain and there are differences based on gender and age. Further studies are warranted to support the results.

  • This paper proposes a novel method for feature selection for mass spectrometric proteomic data based on Random Forest. The method includes an effective preprocessing step to filter a large amount of redundant features with high correlation and applies a tournament strategy to get an optimal feature subset. Experiments on three public datasets, Ovarian 4-3-02, Ovarian 7-8-02 and Prostate shows that the new method achieves high performance comparing with widely used methods and balanced rate of specificity and sensitivity.
