Plasma Arc Curing(PAC) units operate at relatively high intensity and claimed to result in optimum properties of composite resin in a short curing time, so the interest of pediatric dentists about PAC units have been increased recently. But PAC units used for polymerizing restorative resins produce heat during operation. The purpose of this study was to evaluate temperature transmission through dentin of various depths using two types of PAC units(Flipo, Q-Lux plasma 100). The results from the present study can be summarized as follows : 1. When PAC be used continuously, temperature on tip was increased as curing times, and Q-Lux showed greater temperature rising(p<0.001). 2. Compared temperature transmission as dentin depth, temperature rising rate was decreased as dentin thickened(0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0mm)(p<0.05). 3. Compared temperature transmission as resin depth, temperature rising rate was also decreased as resin thickened(1.0, 2.0mm)(p<0.05).
With the introduction of the xenon plasma arc curing light and the LED curing light as orthodontic curing lights, the polymerizing time of orthodontic composites has clearly decreased. In contrast to various research cases regarding the polymerization time and bond strength of the xenon plasma arc curing light, not enough research exists on the LED curing light, including the appropriate polymerization time. The objective of this research was to compare the bond strength of the plasma curing light and the LED curing light in regards to the polymerization time. The polymerization time needed to achieve an appropriate adhesion strength of the bracket has also been studied. After applying orthodontic brackets using composite resin onto 120 human premolars, the plasma arc curing light and the LED curing light were used for polymerization for 4, 6, and 8 seconds accordingly. This research proved that the LED curing light provided appropriate bond strength for mounting orthodontic brackets even with short seconds of polymerization. The expensive cost and large size of the device limits the use of the plasma arc curing light, whereas the low cost and easy handling of the LED curing light may lead to greater use in orthodontics.
Steel tire cords were subjected to plasma polymerization coating of acetylene in order to enhance the adhesion to rubber compounds. Plasma polymerization coating was varied to plasma polymerization coating of acetylene, argon plasma etching+plasma polymerization, or argon plasma. etching+plasma polymerization with Ar carrier gas. Adhesion was evaluated via TCAT samples and compared to those with brass coated tire cord. For durability study, plasma polymer cooled tire cords were aged in lab atmosphere for 1, 3, 5, 10 or 15 days, while TCAT specimens prepared with plasma polymer coated tire cords were aged in distilled water, 10% NaCl solution or $100^{\circ}C$ oven for 1, 2, 3 or 4 weeks. After testing, failure surfaces were analyzed with SEM/EDX. Among the treatments, the highest adhesion was obtained by Ar etching+acetylene plasma. polymerization coating with Ar carrier gas, providing almost same pull-out force as the brass coated tire cords. Upon the aging of the tire cords in the lab atmosphere, brass coated tire cords provided better adhesion than plasma polymer coated tire cords, while the TCAT samples with plasma polymer coated tire cords exhibited similar or slightly superior durability to those with brass coated tire cords.

In recent years, xenon plasma arc lamp was introduced for high-intensity curing of composite filling materials in direct resin restorations. In this study, two types of restorative materials, namely composites point $4^{(R)}$ and $Z250^{(R)}$ were selected and curing was conducted using a conventional halogen light and two plama curing lights. Two different resin composites were cured using the different units($Flipo^{(R)}$, Ultra-lite 180A, and $TriLight^{(R)}$) and tested for microhardness. The purpose of this study was to test the hypothesis that exposure to a plasma curing lamp for 3, 6. 9 seconds is equivalent to 20 or 40 seconds of irradiation using a conventional halogen curing unit. 1. $Flipo^{(R)}$ and Ultra-lite 180A were able to polymerize point $4^{(R)}$ at 6 seconds to a degree equal to that of the $TriLight^{(R)}$(control) at 40 seconds. 2. $Flipo^{(R)}$ was able to polymerize $Z250^{(R)}$ at 9 seconds to a degree equal to that of the $TriLight^{(R)}$(control) on the bottom surface at 20 seconds. whereas Ultra-lite 180A could not do. 3. Two plasma curing units were able to cure the test-composites with bottom/top ratios approximately 61% to 96% at 3 to 9 seconds. There were some differences between the two composite brands, with $Z250^{(R)}$ displaying less difference between top and bottom hardness values. For point $4^{(R)}$ and $Z250^{(R)}$, at least 6 or 9 seconds were necessary to produce microhardness equivalent to that of the $TriLight^{(R)}$ curing at 20 or 40 seconds.
A new gas-flow type reactor for plasma polymerization was developed to synthesize functional polymers, which enhances reaction of radicals activated in the discharge. Styrene was used for the plasma polymerization and molecular strucure and molecular weight distribution of the plasma -polymerized styrene were studies. The ploymer was evaluated to be an efficient electron beam resist. The sensitivity of the plasma-polymerized styrene film formed by this new reactor was better than that of the reported values of conventional polystyrene, Fine resist patterns could be successfully developed by a wet process.

In this paper, We have fabricated PMMA thin films by plasma polymerization method for organic thin film transistor's insulator layer. In the electrical characteristic results with deposition pressures and substrate RF bias power in thin film deposition process, we have got dielectric constant of 3.4, high deposition rate of 8.6 [nm/min] and high insulation characteristics in condition of RF100 [W], Ar20 [sccm], 5 [mtorr], RF bias 20 [W]. Therefore, the fabricated thin films are possible as insulation layer of OTFT and organic memory.

The degree of conversion of cross-linked polymer has great importance in determining the physical and mechanical properties, and biocompatibility. Therefore, this study examined the comparison of light-cured composite resin polymerization of various light-curing systems composed of plasma arc, halogen, LED curing units and pluse-delay curing with FTIR. From this experiment, The following results were obtained : 1. From FTIR, the degree of conversion(DC) of composite resin was 34.52-49.31%, DC of composite resin used in Flipo was $39.36{\pm}1.22%$, CrediII $45.64{\pm}1.34%$, XL3000 $43.48{\pm}1.34%$, VIP(mode 4) $44.31{\pm}0.72%$, LUXOMAX $49.31{\pm}2.37%$, Elipar Freelight $44.51{\pm}0.62%$ and $34.52{\pm}0.85%$ in pulse-delay curing. 2. The degree of conversion of composite resin in each light-curing unit was highest DC of the LUXOMAX system, lowest DC of the pulse-delay curing. 3. Compared with other curing system, Flipo, LUXOMAX, and pulse-delay curing were significant difference(p<0.05). 4. In same curing method group, the differences of each light-curing unit were no significace in halogen(conventional) curing method(p>0.05), but significance in plasma arc curing and LED curing method(p<0.05).
We prepared non-porous membrane on the $Al_2O_3$ substrate with the different pore by the size by the plasma polymerization of $CHF_3$. We studied the permeability characteristics of membrane by Ar treatment and the effect of substrate pore size on gas permeation mechanism. The selectivity was increased with Ar plasma treatment time and rf-power near the substrate to the cathode while the permeability was decreased. It was observed that the solution-diffusion model would be applied to non-porous layers while it is applied Knudsen diffusion model to the substrate. From the experimental observation, it could be concluded that the pore size of $Al_2O_3$ membrane influenced on the permeability and the selectivity.
