  • The effects of drawing temperature and draw down ratio on thermal properties, crystallinity and orientation of poly(trimethylene terephthalate)/poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PTT/PET) 100/0 ,90/10, and 80/20 blends have been investigated. The crystallinity and glass transition temperature increased while cold crystallization temperature and cold enthalpy decreased due to the development of orientation and stress induced crystallization by the cord drawing. Introducing PET to PTT decreased the crystallinity of PTT. However, it enhanced the orientation of PTT/PET blends drawn at below the glass transition temperature of PET. This lead to the increase of tensile modulus and tensile strength of PTT/PET blends. The shrinkage increased with increasing orientation, which might be minimized by the development of crystalline morphology of PTT in the course of cold drawing.

Mass Transfer Phenomena in Polycondensation Reaction of Poly(ethylene naphthalate) (폴리(에틸렌 나프탈레이트)의 축중합 반응에서 물질 전달 현상)

  • The instantaneous removal of ethylene glycol is very important fur obtaining high molecular weight polymer because of the reversibility of the polycondensation reaction of poly(ethylene naphthalate)(PEN). In this study, we investigated the mass transfer phenomena in the thin film of PEN oligomer where the polycondensation reaction took place at 280$^{\circ}C$ and under 0.1mmHg. In case of less than 0.025cm film thickness the mass transfer resistance through the thin film of the polymer melt was not so high that the overall reaction rate was governed only by the polycondenstion reaction. Both the mass transfer model and the diffusion model predicted the experimenatal data well but the diffusion model showed faster reaction rate in the low molecular weight range than the mass transfer model . It was estimated from the two models that the diffusivity was 4.7${\times}$10$\^$-6/$\textrm{cm}^2$/sec and the mass transfer coefficient was 1.4 ${\times}$10$\^$-4/cm/sec both of which were smaller than In case of poly(ethylene terephthalate).

Dimensional Stability of Poly(ethylene/propylene naphthalate) as a Flexible Substrate Application (유연 기판 소재로 응용을 위한 폴리(에틸렌/프로필렌 나프탈레이트)의 치수안정성 연구)

  • The 1,3-propane diol has been introduced as a co-monomer with ethylene glycol to polymerize the poly(ethylene/propylene naphthalate) in order to improve the dimensional stability of poly(ethylene naphthalate) for a possible flexible substrate material. Based on $^1H$-NMR results, it was found that poly (ethylene/propylene naphthalate) has been synthesised successfully. Introducing 1,3-propane diol resulted in the amorphous state in polyester as well as lowering of glass transition and thermal degradation temperature. Coexisting relatively longer propylene segment compared with ethylene in synthesized polyester caused less orientation behavior and reducing thermal expansion coefficient. This is a promising result for poly (ethylene/propylene naphthalate) to apply a flexible substrate.

울산지역 폐수 중 프탈레이트 에스테르 및 비스페놀 A의 HPLC 분석

  • 일반적으로 프탈레이트 에스테르의 전처리방법에는 액액추출법(Liquid Liquid Extraction, LLE), 고상추출법(Solid Phase Extraction, SPE), 고상미세추출법(Solid Phase Micro Extraction, SPME) 등의 분석방법이 있다. 그 중에서 본 연구에서는 간편하고 정확성이 높은 SPE를 이용하였으며, 적은 양의 유기용제를 사용하여 전처리함으로써 2차적인 환경 오염을 줄일 수 있다는 점에서 다른 전처리 방법보다 유용하다고 할 수 있다. 또한 프탈레이트 에스테르의 경우는 구조적으로 안정적인 편이나 페놀류의 경우 hydroxy group 때문에 GC/MS 분석시 유도체화 과정이 필수적이나 이번 연구에서는 HPLC를 이용하므로 별도의 유도체화의 번거로움 없이 바로 분석할 수 있는 이점이 있다. 더 많은 연구가 필요하겠지만 앞서서의 결과에서도 알 수 있듯이 전반적으로 검출한계가 0.1$\sim$0.5$\mu$g/L 정도로 높고, 82% 이상의 양호한 회수율을 나타낸 것으로 미루어 보아 극미량 분석이 아닌 이상, 산업체에서 HPLC의 이용이 더욱 유리할 것이라고 사료된다.

Accurate Analysis of Trace Phthalates and Method Validation in Cosmetics using Gas Chromatography with Mass Spectrometric Detection (화장품에 함유된 미량의 프탈레이트 함량을 정확히 분석하기 위한 가스크로마토그래피-질량분석 시험법 및 그 시험법의 유효성)

  • An effective, environmentally friendly analytic methods using gas chromatography with mass spectrometric detector (GC-MSD) have been developed for the quantitative analysis of trace phthalate levels in cosmetics such as nail lacquer and hair spray. Since such cosmetics are largely comprised of organic solvents, conventional clean-up methods that have been widely used for phthalate analyses are in adequate. In addition, analysis of trace phthalate levels is notorious for its sensitivity to contamination, which causes high analytical values. A direct sample dilution method using an organic solvent was adopted to the sample preparation process to determine the exact amounts of phthalates and simultaneously avoid the high risk of secondary contamination. The method has many advantages including high accuracy, sensitivity, and simplicity in sample preparation. Dibutyl phthalate (DBP) and di (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) were selected for analysis because they have been frequently detected in cosmetics and consistently reported as endocrine disruptors in humans and animals. Internal standard method using two deuterium substitutes (DBP-$d_4$, DEHP-$d_4$) as the internal standard was also used. The results of 'Method validation' showed the capabilities of this method for the routine analysis of phthalates at the ppm level. The recovery ranges were between 95 % and 106.1 %, and relative standards deviations (RSD) were less than 3.9 % in fortified nail lacquer and hair spray samples at the concentration of $25{\mu}g/g$.

Simple Method in Trace Analysis of Phthalates in Cosmetics : Analytical Conditions and Skills for Better Results (화장품에서 프탈레이트 미량분석을 위한 간편한 분석법 : 향상된 결과를 위한 분석조건과 기술)

  • Although phthalates aren't used as an cosmetic ingredient, some cosmetics especially nail lacquer, hair spray, and perfume still have phthalates. This is mainly caused by contamination and carryover during manufacturing process, so analysis of phthalates in those cosmetics has became a very important thing for quality-assurance(Q.A). The main phthalates under debate are diethyl phthalate(DEP), dibutyl phthalate(DBP), and bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) in domestic market. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS) coupled with solvent extraction and concentration has been used for ppm level and sub ppm level analysis of phthalates. It requires much time and cost to use mass spectrometric detector and to prepare the test solution. Moreover analysis of phthalates at low concentrations is difficult because of contamination which results in wrong analytical results. In the present study, we showed a simple method using gas chromatography-flame ionization detector(GC-FID) which has fast analysis time, minimum use of solvent, reduced sample preparation steps for minimizing contamination and quantitative range of $2{\sim}50{\mu}g/g(ppm)$ in products. Consequently, this method will be proper for Q.A analysis in related companies.

  • 폴리에틸렌 나프탈레이트(PEN)는 열적 및 물리적 특성이 우수한 고분자로서 포장재료, 필름, tire cord 등으로 그 이용범위가 확대되고 있는 고분자이다[l]. 그러나 강직한 분자사슬을 가지고 있는 PEN은 고결정성과 소수성 둥으로 인해 흡습성, 제전성 및 염색성이 좋지 못하고 성형가공이 어려운 단점도 있다. 이미 동종계열인 PET의 경우 그러한 단점을 개선하고자 합성반응시 diol과 같은 제 3의 단량체를 사용하여 공축합하는 연구[2-3]가 시도된바 있으나 PEN의 경우 아직 이에 관한 연구보고가 없는 실정이다.   • Oligomeric extracts of poly(ethylene terephthalate-co-ethylene isophthalate)s [(PET/EI] are analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC) and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR). Existence of separated peaks for small cyclics of trimer and tetramer gives the existence of structural isomeric forms. NMR confirms that cyclization of PET/EI occurs more easily at the site of isophthaloyl unit.
