In this paper, we propose a high speed preamble searcher feasible for RACH(Random Access Channel) preamble structure in WCDMA reverse link receiver. Unlike IS-95, WCDMA system uses AISMA(Acquisition Indication Sense Multiple Access) process. Because of the time limit between RACH preamble transmission and AI(Acquisition Indicators), and the restriction on the number of RACH signatures assigned to RACH preamble, fast acquisition indication is required for efficient operation. The preamble searcher proposed in this paper is based on 2-antenna system and has adopted FHT algorithm that has the radix-2 16 point FFT structure. The acquisition speed using FHT is 64 times faster than the conventional method that correlates each signature. Based on their fast aquisition scheme, we improved the acquisition performance by calculating the correlation up to the 4096 chips of the total preamble length. The performance is analyzed by using Neyman-pearson method. The proposed algorithm has been applied for the implementation of WCDMA reverse link receiver modem successfully.

We propose the use of multi-preambles using Gold codes and analyze its performance. The multi-preamble is a way of utilizing different codes for preambles according to operation modes or applications in a system. The receiver can be easily implemented using the maximum likelihood algorithm. The performance is robust against noise due to the good correlation characteristic of the Gold codes. We use 128-bit-long multi-preambles generated by 127 bit Gold codes in deriving the detection error probability and in verifying the validity through computer simulation. The results show that the theory and the experiment are in good agreement within the approximation error.

In this paper, a novel preamble structure, including a synchronization preamble and a cell search preamble, is proposed for OFDM-based cellular systems. An efficient algorithm for downlink synchronization and cell searching using the preamble is also proposed. The synchronization process includes the initial symbol timing estimation using continuously, or at least, periodically transmitted downlink signal, frame synchronization, the fine symbol timing estimation, and the frequency offset estimation using the synchronization preamble, and the cell identification using the cell searching preamble. Performance of each synchronization and cell searching step is analyzed and the analytic results including the overall performance of the synchronization and cell searching are verified by computer simulation. It is shown that the proposed preamble with the corresponding synchronization and cell searching algorithm can provide very robust synchronization and cell searching capability even in bad cellular environments.

In this paper, we propose a new preamble structure for channel estimation in a MIMO OFDM-based WLAN System. Moreover, both the backward compatibility with IEEE 802.11a system and low overhead are considered for the preamble design. Simulation results show that the proposed preamble has low overhead and is obtained the good performance gain for channel estimation.

In this paper, an efficient structure of device-to-device (D2D) synchronization preamble is proposed to meet the enhanced time and frequency synchronization requirements for D2D communication. D2D communication can be applied not only for the cellular communications, but also unmaned aerial vehicle communications and vehicle-to vehicle communication. The proposed preamble structure is transmitting signals at every odd subcarriers, and empty the other subcarriers to minimize the effect of inter-carrier interference. According to the simulation results, the proposed preamble structure provides improved time offset estimation performance, without degrading frequency offset estimation performance compared to the current LTE D2D preamble.

An efficient symbol time synchronization scheme for IEEE 802.11n MIMO-OFDM based WLAN systems using cyclic shift diversity (CSD) preamble is proposed. CSD is used to prevent unintentional beamforming when the same preamble signal is transmitted through transmit antennas. However, it is difficult to find a proper starting-point of the OFDM symbol with the conventional algorithms because of time offset by multi-peaks which are result from cross-correlation of received CSD preamble with a known short training symbol. In addition, the performance of symbol time sync. is affected by AGC and packet detection position. In this paper, an optimal symbol time synch. algorithm which is composed of the boundary detection scheme between LTS and OFDM symbols, the verification scheme for enhancement of boundary detection accuracy, and the SNR-varying threshold estimation scheme is proposed. Simulation result show that the proposed algorithm has performance gains of 4.3dB in SNR compared to the conventional algorithms at the rate of 1% sync. failure probability for $2{\times}2$ MIMO-OFDM system and 18dB at 0.1% when maximum frequency offset exists. It also can be applied to $4{\times}4$ MIMO-OFDM system without any modification. Hence, it is very suitable for MIMO-OFDM WLAN systems using CSD preamble.

In this paper, a new handover procedure for OFDM-based multi-hop relay systems is proposed to reduce the handover overhead by distinguishing inter-cell handover event from intra-cell handover event at the level of physical layer using a hierarchical design concept of preamble. A Subcell ID concept for identifying RS in a cell is proposed in the design of hierarchical manner, in addition to the existing Cell ID for identifying BS. The decision on either inter-cell handover or intra-cell handover is made by the signal quality measure of CBINR(Carrier of BS to Interference and Noise Ratio) and CRINR(Carrier of RS to Interference and Noise Ratio), provided by the hierarchical preamble. The proposed handover procedure can simplify scanning procedure and skip/simplify network re-entry procedure (capability negotiation, authorization, registration), resulting in a significant reduction of handover overhead.

In this paper, we analyze functional requirements of the IEEE 802.22 WRAN, and propose a downlink 프레임 structure satisfying the requirements. The proposed downlink 프레임 structure maximizes e transmission efficiency by adopting the cognative radio to assign the sub-channel by reflecting the channel environment of WRAN. We also calculate the signalling overhead for both downlink and uplink, and analyze the performances of time synchronization, frequency synchronization and cell identification based on the 프리앰블 in downlink and suggest the channel estimation method tough 프리앰블 or pilot. As a final result, e stationary beamforming (SBF) algorithm with dynamic channel allocation(DCA) is proposed. The proposed OFDMA downlink 프레임 structure with channel adaptive sub-channel allocation for cognitive radio applications is verified to meet the requirements of IEEE 802.22 WRAN, by computer simulations.

In this parer, we analyze the preamble model in the OFDMA/TDD(OFDM-FDMA/Time Division Duplexing). Besides, under AWGN, ITU-R M.1225 Ped-B and Veh-A channel environments, we analyze capabilities of symbol timing & carrier frequency offset and performance of cell searching capabilities applied to OFDM/TDD system through computer simulation. The performance using Detection Probability, False Alarm Probability, Missing Probability, Mean Acquisition Time and MSE(Mean Square Error) is analyzed. Especially, in the case of symbol timing offset estimation, the preamble structure and its algorithm with enhanced performance are proposed and then compared with existing ones.

In this paper, a transmission technique of paging indicator (PI) on the existing preamble is proposed to reduce power consumption of the user equipment in idle mode for OFDM-based cellular systems. Compared with the PI transmission technique using the L1/L2 control channel, the PI transmission technique using preamble has advantages of not requiring additional overhead for PI transmission as well as reducing computational complexity for PI detection. Synchronization and PI detection techniques are descried for OFDM-based cellular systems, especially for mobile WiMAX systems. It is shown by computer simulation that the PI can be transmitted using the preamble (or common synch symbol) without affecting performances of synchronization and cell searching in mobile WiMAX systems.
