  • In South Korea, with the advancement of the 'Port' project, the regeneration industry adapted to the modern economic development has been promoted, leading to construction around the port was also redefined. Therefore, through regeneration, the problem of image construction of buildings around the port has been re-examined, in which color is an important content of image construction. In this study, the exterior walls of abandoned factory buildings in the port area of Bongnaedong, Pusan were selected as the color research object and evaluated according to the characteristics of the regenerated factory buildings combined with the building color function. Technically, KSCP color analysis system is used for color analysis. In this way, the color plan for the exterior walls of the factory buildings is proposed to visually enhance the image of abandoned factory buildings and attract more attention, thus driving the regional economic development. The results of this study show that in order to adapt to the regional, industrial and commercial characteristics of the regenerated port space, the color hue, lightness, chroma and use area of the building can be changed to enhance the aesthetic value and enhance the inductivity and security.

  • This study deals with the case of student-centered discrete mathematics class with cyber lab. First, we provided lecture notes and cyber labs we developed. In particular, discrete mathematics is a course that covers the principles of algorithms. The purpose of this study is to provide students with basic mathematics, aiming to actively participate in the learning process, to improve their abilities and to reach the ultimate goal of student success with confidence. Second, based on interactions, students were able to prepare for the lectures, review, question, answer, and discussion through an usual learning management system of the school. Third, all the students generated materials through one semester, which were reported, submitted, presented and evaluated. It was possible to improve the learning effectiveness through the discussions and implementation of using some easy open source programming language and codes. Our discrete math laboratory could be practiced without any special knowledge of coding. These lecture models allow students to develop critical thinking skills while describing and presenting their learning and problem-solving processes. We share our experience and our materials including lecture note and cyber lab as well as a possible model of student-centered mathematics class that does not give too much of work load for instructors. This study shares a model that demonstrates that any professor will be able to have an individualized, customized, and creative discrete education without spending much of extra time and assistant, unlike previous research.

  • This study was carried out to investigate how the basic plan of the Saemangeum development project that has been developed by the government since 1991 has been changed and to present a new development strategy by analyzing the future value and tourism resource value of Saemangeum development. The research methodology is based on the in - depth analysis methodology of the time series research materials and press releases published by the Saemangeum Development Administration, which oversees the development of Saemangeum. The government announced a plan to significantly reduce agricultural land and increase the proportion of non-agricultural land to 70% in order to create a multifunctional complex. After that, the government revised the basic plan of Saemangeum in 2014 and changed the plan to tailor the investment demand in order to cultivate investment demand, and introduced the special economic cooperation system for global economic cooperation. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to analyze the process of Saemangeum development to date and to evaluate the value of Saemangeum development as a tourism resource, centered on the Master Plan of the Saemangeum Development Project changed by the government. Based on the results of this analysis, I would like to present the vision of Saemangeum tourism development considering Saemangeum 's environment and characteristics of the surrounding scenery by referring to trends and similar cases of international tourism.

  • This numerical study was intended to evaluate the applicability of the half charge blasting to mining and tunnelling. The half charge blasting is a method that two separate rounds are sequentially blasted for the rock burdens in which long blast holes have already been drilled at one operation. The aim of the method is to decrease the construction cost and period in mining and tunnelling projects as well as to increase the blasting efficiency. Several numerical analyses were conducted by using the Euler-Lagrange solver on ANSYS AUTODYN to identify the effects of the suggested method on the blasting results in underground excavations. The overall performance of the suggested method was also compared to an ordinary blasting method. The analysis model was comprised of the Eulerian parts (explosive, air, and stemming materials) and the Lagrangian parts (rock material). As a result, it was found that, owing to the air decks formed in the bottom parts of the long blast holes, the first round of the suggested method presented a higher shock pressure and particle velocities in the vicinity of the blast holes compared to the ordinary blasting method.

  • With the high quality/high stiffness/high strength of segment lining, segment lining is increasingly used as the final lining of the tunnel. Precast concrete lining has higher quality and strength than field concrete. Paradoxically, this contributes to greater damage to concrete in the event of a fire in a tunnel. In this study, tests were conducted to determine the fire resistance performance of segment linings according to fiber content in fire resistance methods using synthetic fibers such as PP fibers. As a result, it was confirmed that fire resistance performance required by the relevant project can be secured when using 1.5 kg/m3 of PP fiber. In addition, comparison of the results of PP fibers with PET, a similar synthetic fiber, showed better fire resistance performance than when PP fibers were used.

  • Part-time jobs in Sweden are highly feminized yet are in fair conditions in terms of job security, earnings, and collective representation. Three points are considered to be important to understand why part-time work in Sweden carries such positive characteristics. First, the part-time work in Sweden is widely spread not as a result of employers' need for labor flexibilization but as means to enhance the work-life balance, a value pursued within a broader social policy package to change the breadwinner model. Second, discrimination against part-time workers is restrained in Sweden because the boundary between part-time and full-time is not conspicuous. Most of part-time jobs are occupied by regular workers who exert the right to part-time work, hence may go back to the full-time status any time. Third, the regulation on overtime work of part-time workers as well as full-time workers is strong. It is largely agreed among researchers that part-time work contributed greatly to an increase of female employment rate in Sweden. Since the 1970s, the increased availability of part-time jobs induced married women who used to be economically inactive to the labor market and maintained them to be economically active throughout the child rearing period. From the gender perspective, one may still raise issues regarding part-time work in Sweden such as persistent feminization and strong occupational sex segregation. However, the observed trend shows that the part-time work in Sweden has functioned more as a stepping stone to the full-time work for women than as a women's trap.

  • We proposed a numerical method to simulate the hydro-mechanical behavior of rock fracture using a grain-based distinct element model (GBDEM) in the paper. As a part of DECOVALEX-2023 Task G, we verified the method via benchmarks with analytical solutions. DECOVALEX-2023 Task G aims to develop a numerical method to estimate the coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical processes within the crystalline rock fracture network. We represented the rock sample as a group of tetrahedral grains and calculated the interaction of the grains and their interfaces using 3DEC. The micro-parameters of the grains and interfaces were determined by a new methodology based on an equivalent continuum approach. In benchmark modeling, a single fracture embedded in the rock was examined for the effects of fracture inclination and roughness, the boundary stress condition and the applied pressure. The simulation results showed that the developed numerical model reasonably reproduced the fracture slip induced by boundary stress condition, the fracture opening induced by fluid injection, the stress distribution variation with fracture inclination, and the fracture roughness effect. In addition, the fracture displacements associated with the opening and slip showed good agreement with the analytical solutions. We expect the numerical model to be enhanced by continuing collaboration and interaction with other research teams of DECOVALEX-2023 Task G and validated in further study experiments.

  • South Korea, as the 10th country to join the Artemis program led by NASA, is actively supporting various researches related to the lunar exploration. In particular, the utilization of water as a resource in the Moon has been focused since it was discovered that ice exists at the lunar pole as a form of frozen soil. Information on the thermal conductivity of lunar regolith can be used to estimate the existence for ice water extraction by thermal mining. In this study, the vacuum pressure effect on thermal conductivity of KLS-1 was investigated with a DTVC (Dusty Thermal Vacuum Chamber). The reliability of KLS-1 was reconfirmed through comparison with thermal conductivity of known standard lunar regolith simulants such as JSC-1A. An empirical equation to assess thermal conductivity considering dry unit weight and vacuum pressure was proposed. The results from this study can be implemented to simulate lunar cryogenic environment using the DTVC.

  • Witnessing current military conflicts in South China Sea and Eastern Europe, most defense analysts evaluate one of the most serious security threat toward the US is coming from the superpower competitions with Russia and China. The main means for such super power hegemonic competitions is military power and space power is a key enabler to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of military employment. Reflecting above circumstances, the space hegemonic competition between the Unites States and China is spreading into all aspects of national powers. Under such an environment, R.O.K needs to significantly develop national space power to preserve life and assets of people in space. On the other hand, the R.O.K has a lot of limitations in launching space assets into orbits by land-based space rockets due to its geographic locations. The limitation of rocket launching direction, the failure to secure a significant area enough to secure safety and the limitation to secure open area enough to build associated facilities are among them. On this paper, I will suggest the need to build the 2nd space rocket launching site after analyzing a lot of short-falls the current 'Naro' space center face, compared to those of advanced space powers around the world.

  • We proposed a numerical method for the thermo-mechanical behavior of rock fracture using a grain-based distinct element model (GBDEM) and simulated thermally induced fracture slip. The present study is the benchmark simulation performed as part of DECOVALEX-2023 Task G, which aims to develop a numerical method to estimate the coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical processes within the crystalline rock fracture network. We represented the rock sample as an assembly of Voronoi grains and calculated the interaction of the grains (blocks) and their interfaces (contacts) using a distinct element code, 3DEC. Based on an equivalent continuum approach, the micro-parameters of grains and contacts were determined to reproduce rock as an elastic material. Then, the behavior of the fracture embedded in the rock was characterized by the contacts with Coulomb shear strength and tensile strength. In the benchmark simulation, we quantitatively examined the effects of the boundary stress and thermal stress due to heat conduction on fracture behavior, focusing on the mechanism of thermally induced fracture slip. The simulation results showed that the developed numerical model reasonably reproduced the thermal expansion and thermal stress increment, the fracture stress and displacement and the effect of boundary condition. We expect the numerical model to be enhanced by continuing collaboration and interaction with other research teams of DECOVALEX-2023 Task G and validated in further study experiments.
