An Analysis of Forwarding Companies' Efficiency handling Overseas Construction Project Logistics using DEA (DEA분석을 활용한 건설프로젝트 화물포워딩 업체의 효율성 분석)

  • Although many logistics companies are interested in project logistics, the existing research has been limited to the growth potential of project logistics market and the high barrier and importance of project logistics. This study analyzes using DEA the operational efficiency of forwarding companies registered in major overseas construction EPC companies and performing logistics services for overseas plant construction projects. For efficiency analysis, Super-SBM analysis and Malmquist analysis are used among DEA analysis techniques. As a result of the Super-SBM analysis, DMU 5 ranked first at 1.807. DMU 5 is more efficient than the other large corporations because it has the stable supply of its parent company H and the smallest input and output variables among the large corporations. As a result of Malmquist analysis, TCI, which is a technological development, showed a fluctuation while TECI showed a relatively stable variation. In addition, there is a difference in scale between major companies and small and medium sized companies. So, it is necessary to identify the efficiency improvement strategy for each group and apply it to the practical work.

  • Recently various applications have been proposed to improve supply chain process and management by not only using various management theories such as JIT(just In Time) and SCM(Supply Chain Management) but also utilizing emerging technology like RFID(Radio Frequency Identification). But existing research was merely focused on the use of the theories and technology on a particular work or material. Therefore, the objective of this study is to derive basic types of construction supply chain management which spans from manufacturing to installation at the construction site. This research proposes the seven types of construction supply chain processes, which has been derived based on the progress management theory and budget items for construction project. It is expected that the result of this study can be applied for RFID-based construction supply chain management as well as more efficiencies in various management areas.

  • Construction supply chain management focused on materials in construction industry plays a critical role which controls the success and failure of a project. For the efficiency of construction supply chain management, the framework which provides project participants with the information originated from whole construction logistics steps without the omission and discontinuation of information flow is required. The new management framework that can support this environment is necessary because of setting up the complicated and distributed environment including logistics information management by intelligent equipment, co-working management with pre-framework legacy system and various devices(UMPC and PDA etc.) as the information confirmation and electrical transmission tool between the project participants different from former construction supply chain management environment while recently developing ubiquitous technologies such as RFID/USN and intelligent equipment to support logistics process. Therefore, the objective of this study is to introduce the concept of SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) as an alternative of effective information integration under the complex and distributed environment and to propose the SOA-based application model for building intelligent construction supply chain management framework.

  • A lot of changes are required in a management method of a project because the character of construction projects gets bigger and higher gradually. Especially, for the efficiency of the management method the plans of various viewpoints focused on the construction supply chain field that the technical application of Ubiquitous Technologies such as RFID/USN is being advanced actively are presented. Recently, the introduction of the intelligent equipment which is developed for intelligence of construction site requires the new process model in the construction supply chain management on the construction site. Therefore, this study is to propose the intelligent construction supply chain reference model development in order to provide the guide that the numerous materials for construction could easily be applied in the changed process, as mentioned above, by overcoming the limit of the existing construction supply chain process which is proposed as bar codes and RFID/USN based individual material types and reflecting the change factors like the intelligent equipment of construction supply chain management.

  • RFID-based logistics is increasingly adopted in various areas of the construction industry as a technology that can improve effectiveness and efficiency of construction logistics. However, the technology is not widely adopted yet compared to the potential of RFID applications in the construction industry that the existing research has shown. Since the validation and verification of the benefit from RFID applications were biased toward the productivity of managers, more wide aspect of validation and verification is necessary. Therefore, the objective of this paper is to show how much impact the RFID-based logistics management system can have on resource leveling and allocation that have a direct impact on a construction project as well as the managers' productivity improvement that was shown by the existing research. This paper also discusses issues arisen during the test process.

  • 국제 무역에 있어 한 중 일 삼국은 동아시아에서 차지하고 있는 비중이 클 뿐만 아니라, 전 세계 컨테이너 물동량의 30% 이상을 차지하며 세계 물류 흐름에서 큰 역할을 차지하고 있다. 하지만 각국의 물류 정보시스템이 각각 다르고, 관리 체제나 연계 방안이 마련되어 있지 않아 정보 연계 시 많은 문제점이 발생하고 있다. 이를 해결하기 위해 한 중 일 삼국은 정보를 공유하고 관리할 수 있도록 동북아 물류정보 서비스 네트워크(이하 NEAL-NET) 구축 사업을 진행하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 NEAL-NET 프로젝트의 진행 사항과 의의를 살펴보고, 추후 국제 물류정보 공유 협력을 위한 표준화 방안에 대해 연구하였다.

  • 해외로 이동하고 있는 컨테이너 화물의 실시간 위치를 확인하고 기상정보 및 국제 이슈 등을 고려하여 도착 예상 시간을 계산해 화물의 도착 예정시간을 실시간으로 확인할 수 있는 서비스이다. 그동안 선박 추적 시스템은 해외 서비스에 의존해왔으며, 선사에서 자체적으로 제공하는 정보는 정확도가 40%에 미치는 한계가 존재했다. 이러한 문제점을 보완하여, 해당 서비스를 통해 빅데이터 기반의 분석과 향후 프로젝트 운영을 통해 축적될 시스템 상의 데이터와 현장의 데이터를 취합하여 높은 정확도를 이룰 수 있을 것으로 예상한다. 이를 통해 수출 기업들은 안전재고를 감축할 수 있게 되어 보관 관련 물류비용을 절감할 수 있게 될 것이다. 또한 보다 정확한 제조 일정을 수립할 수 있게 되어 과잉 생산을 방지할 수 있음을 기대해볼 수 있다.

  • Local freight forwarder's circle is suffering worsening profitability and insecure employment from over-competition which caused by a saturated local logistics market. It is emerging UN procurement market for local freight forwarders. However it is needed to study on successful entry, market status and supporting measures from government and research institute. Currently there are no national research data of UN procurement market in logistics sectors but as per the writer's experience and viewpoint to UN bidding, it would seem that appropriate measures should be made such as government's enhanced support for overseas advancement, price competitiveness, building global network and development of education program for trainees associated with current overseas internship program by government.

  • The ILOF project addresses the needs of logistics industrial organizations to reduce information processing time, improve added and residual value of information and reduce processing and transportation costs. It deals with the information supply chain information systems shared by vertical partner as important entity, whose performance and optimization very significantly affects the efficiency and performance of logistics industries. This paper deals with logistics information exchange systems based on supply chain management, focusing on sharing database and processes between partners such as shipper, logistics broker, transportation company, shipping company etc., for smoothing the information flow, enhancing consumer service and reducing communication fee and labour costs. The significance of contribution of this research is the provision of a model for logistics information exchange including entity relationship diagram, data flow diagram and functions which is able to facilitate the formulation of a customer driven supply chain information network, there by enhancing the competitive edge of companies in logistics industries on local and global basis.
