Influence of Flexible Pin for Planets on Service Life of Wind Turbine Gearboxes (풍력 발전기용 증속기의 유연 핀이 수명에 미치는 영향 연구)

  • An overhung mounted carrier with flexible pins is applied to the planetary gear train of a wind turbine gearbox to investigate the influence of the self-aligning effect by means of the deflection of the planet spindle and the flexible pin on the lifetime of the planet gear for a wind turbine gearbox. To analyze the load distribution of planet gears, both Euler theory and commercial software are employed. By applying an overhung mounted carrier with flexible pins in the wind turbine gearbox, we can improve the misalignment performance, face load factor, and service life of the planet gears. In particular, it was confirmed that a service life of more than 20 years could be realized for wind turbine gearboxes by applying a flexible pin to the overhung mounted carrier.

Design of a Torque Application Device in Test Rig for a Wind Turbine Gearbox (풍력발전기용 증속기 시험 장비의 토크 인가 장치 설계)

  • This study was conducted to develop and verify a torque application device for use in a mechanical power-circulation test rig for 5.5 MW wind turbine gearboxes. The design and analysis of the torque application device was conducted. In addition, the torsional stiffness of the test rig was calculated using the rotational angle measurements for each of the components. The calculated stiffness of the test rig was $231.13kN{\cdot}m/rad$ for a clockwise torque application. The rated torque can be applied when the stiffness of the gearbox is greater than $1,064,400kN{\cdot}m/rad$ for a clockwise torque application. Because of the limited rotational angle of the test rig, the potential application of the rated torque is determined according to the torsional stiffness of the test gearbox.

Study on the Load Properties of Main Shaft of Medium Size Wind-turbine Gearbox using Monitoring (모니터링을 이용한 중형 풍력발전기용 증속기 주축의 부하특성 분석 연구)

  • To improve the reliability for a wind-turbine gearbox, the mechanical loads acting on the gearbox need to be monitored and analysed exactly. This study was conducted to identify the characteristics of torques and bending moments acting on the main shaft of the gearbox using the rainflow counting method and predict the fatigue life of the main shaft by using the modified Miner's rule. While the mean wind speed became 3.5 m/s, the life of the main shaft by the acting torques was predicted as 4.3${\times}10^6$ years, and it by the bending moments was as 2.3${\times}10^4$ years. If the life of the wind turbine was estimated as 20 years, the fatigue life of the main shaft was regarded as infinite. Also, it was suggested that the life of the main shaft must be predicted by not the torques but the bending moments.

  • 최근 풍력발전의 산업이 성장함에 따라 풍력 발전기의 부속품에 대한 연구도 활발해지고 있다. 이에 본 논문에서는 풍력 발전기의 기계적 증속기의 문제점을 개선한 비접촉식 자기 기어를 제안하고 기어비에 따른 기어의 특성을 분석하였다. 각 모델들의 전체 크기 및 자석 사용량은 동일하게 고정하였으며 기어비에 따른 극수 및 회전수만을 조절하여 도출된 결과값을 바탕으로 풍력발전기용 증속기 설계 시 기어비 결정에 대한 지표를 제시하고자 한다.

An Investigation on the Characteristics of Gear Trains of Wind turbines (풍력발전기용 기어트레인의 특성에 관한 연구)

  • Gear trains are combined with the planetary gear units and helical gear units. It is known that the combination type is decisive to the system performances of the transmissions. In this paper, within the commonly used range of the design requirements for medium and large scaled (1~8 MW) wind turbines, the transmission characteristics of the typical layouts of the gear train are investigated. According to the international standard by ANSI/AGMA/AWEA 6006-A03, the gear boxes are basically designed and compared with respect to the system lifes of 99% reliability, total weight, the power densities, overall diameter/length and the maximum stresses of the gear teeth. With these comparison works, the characteristics of the layouts of gear trains are discussed.

  • Gearbox is used to converter the power with high torque and low speed into the power with low torque and high speed. Gearbox housing should be sustained to prevent rotation of gearbox itself due to the difference between input and out torque. Uneven wind causes the reaction system to have unwanted reactive loads together with predictable pure torque. These unwanted reaction loads often cause the failure of gearbox due to bad gear mesh. In this paper, pure torque reaction system is proposed to prevent the failure of gearbox. Effectiveness and functionality of the proposed reaction system are demonstrated through the numerical analysis.
