Experimental Verification of Unwinding Behavior of Fiber-Optic Cable and Prediction of High-Speed Unwinding (광 케이블 풀림 거동의 실험적 검증 및 고속 풀림 거동 예측)

  • Fiber-optic cables towed by underwater vehicles have an important role in enhancing the mission capability of a mother ship. In general, fiber optic cables are unwound in water for securing unwinding stability and preventing unwinding-related problems. Therefore, in this study, the numerically simulated result is verified against the experimental result in water, and the cable-unwinding motion is predicted based on the increase in unwinding velocity. The experimental apparatus is composed of a water tank and a winder, and a high-speed camera is used for photographing the cable-unwinding motion. The numerical result defined in the Cartesian coordinate system is solved using a transient-state unwinding equation of motion. The numerical result agrees well with the experimental result, and it can predict cable-unwinding behaviors in according to an increase in the unwinding velocity.

  • 신장유동의 예로 등온 방사공정을 구성방식의 예로 변형률속도에 따라 변하는 풀림 시간을 가지는 White-Metz-ner 모델을 사용해서 점탄성유체의 거동에 관한 해석적 연구를 수행했다, 그결과 풀림시간의 변형률속도에 대한 의존도에 따라 점탄성유체를 두가지로 구 분할 수 있음을 알 수 있었다, 다시말해서 풀림시간이 변형률속도에 대해서 작은 의존도를 가지는 그룹I의 유체의 경우는 변형률속도가 커짐에 따라 신장점도가 증가하며 Weissen-berg수 (무차원 풀림시간)가 커짐에 따라 방사사선의 속도가 증가한다, 반면에 풀 림시간이 변형률속도에 대해서 큰 의존도를 가지는 그룹 II의 유체의 경우는 변형률 속도가 커짐에 따라 신장점도가 감소하며 Weissenberg수가 커짐에 따라 방사사선의속도가 감소한 다. 이렇게 대조적딘 점탄성유체에 관한 결과는 유사한 거동을 보고한 다른 연구자들의 결 과와 잘 부합한다. 또한 Weissenberg수가 다른경우의 신장점도 곡선들을 무차원 변형률속 도를 Weis-senberg수에 비례하게 Shift 시키면 master Curve를 얻을수 있었다.

Bolt Loosening Analysis under Transverse Vibration for Design of Reliable Pyrotechnic Separation Nut (신뢰성 있는 파이로테크닉 분리 너트 설계를 위한 진동 시 볼트 풀림 해석)

  • Recently, pyrotechnic separation nut has attracted a considerable attention because of its shock reduction effect among various pyrotechnic mechanical devices. However, its bolt loosening behavior under transverse vibration has not been studied sufficiently, since segmented nuts are utilized instead of conventional nut in pyrotechnic separation nut. With the background, bolt loosening analyses are carried out referring to Junker vibration test. The analysis procedure consists of two steps. The first step is the bolt fastening step, screwing the bolt by fastening torque. The second step is the bolt loosening step under transverse vibration. Through the procedure, bolt loosening behaviors are obtained, and the effect of clearance on loosening behavior is closely investigated for reliable design of pyrotechnic separation nut.

  • Under harsh environments in which remote control is impossible, wire-guided control technology is effective for controlling distant underwater vehicles that serve mother ships in missions, such as exploration and installation. When the fiber is unwound from the spool, tension fluctuations occur in the fiber because of the relative velocity of the moving vehicles and unwinding velocity of the fiber. As a result, fiber cables exhibit complicated behaviors, become entangled, and may get cut. In this study, a spool-like design for winding tens of kilometers of fiber cables is proposed by analyzing cable winding. The unwinding performance of the designed spool is estimated by performing nonlinear dynamics analysis of the nonlinear behavior and tension fluctuations observed during the unwinding of the fiber.

  • As a fiber-optic cable is being unwound, it is protected by a tube that is designed to prevent unwinding problems such as tangling and unintentional cutting. In addition, a guide body is separated from the protective tube if a shear pin breaks when the maximum allowable load is exceeded. Therefore, it is important to analyze and predict the unwinding behavior of the protective tube, as well as the load on the shear pin, to enhance the likelihood of a successful operation when laying cables at extreme depths. In this study, the protective tube and the guide body are modeled with particles and are constrained with a constant-length constraint. The load on the shear pin was verified against experimental data, and the unwinding behavior was predicted from the load prediction results.

Influence of Filler Systems and Microstructures of SBR on Stress Softening Effect of SBR Vulcanizates (SBR의 미세 구조와 보강 시스템이 SBR 가황물의 응력 풀림 효과에 미치는 영향)

  • Stress softening behaviors of SBR vulcanizates reinforced with silica or carbon black were studied. Two types of SBR with different 1,2-unit contents of 18 and 60 wt% were used and three filler systems of carbon black and silica with/without silane coupling agent were employed. Stress softening behaviors of the SBR vulcanizates were varied with the SBR types as well as the filler systems. The silica-filled rubber specimens had higher residual strains than the carbon black-filled ones. The residual strains of silica-filled vulcanizates were remarkably reduced by adding a silane coupling agent. The maximum loads at 50% maximum stretch of the carbon black-filled vulcanizates were lower than those of the silica-filled ones. On the contrary, the maximum loads at 200% maximum stretch of the carbon black-filled vulcanizates were higher than those of the silica-filled ones. The maximum loads of the specimens with the 1,2-unit content of 60 wt% are higher than those with the 1,2-unit content of 18 wt% irrespective of the filler systems.

  • A comparative study on the implant screw loosening under the initial clamping force and cyclic loads was conducted. The experiments were performed to evaluate the screw loosening behavior of the internal and external implant systems. It was found that the screw loosening torques of implant systems were significantly affected by the way how the abutment and fixture were connected due to the difference in the load transfer mechanism between abutment and fixture.

  • Certain structural components are exposed to high temperatures. At high temperature, under thermal and mechanical loading, metal components exhibit both creep and plastic behavior. The unified constitutive theory is to model both the time-dependent behavior(creep) and the time-independent behavior(plasticity) in one set of equations. Microscopically both creep and plasticity are controlled by the motion of dislocations. A finite element method is presented encorporating a unified constitutive model for the transient analysis of viscoplastic behavior of structures exposed to high temperature.
