Predicting Dangerous Traffic Intervals between Ships in Vessel Traffic Service Areas Using a Poisson Distribution (푸아송 분포를 이용한 해상교통관제 구역 내 선박 상호간 교통위험 상황의 발생 간격 분석에 관한 연구)

  • Vessel traffic servies (VTS) control movements in ports and coastal areas 24 hours a day using VHF. Thus, we were able to check ship movements and the patterns followed by VTS officers in VTS areas using VHF communication analysis. This study is intended to identify control intervals for dangerous situations and provide VTS officers with basic data and guidelines to prevent these occurrences in advance. We listened to Busan port's VHF communication for seven days and obtained risk values using the Park model with reference to controlled ships. The probability of a dangerous situation arising under a controller's watch per unit of time was confirmed to follow a Poisson distribution. As a result, for each 3.50 hours that VTS directly controls an area, (and in daytime for each 2.85 hours) a ship communicates in a VTS area every 3.84 hours, and some of there communications exceed certain risk values in VTS areas.

  • Passengers and Airlines wish neither delay nor cancellation due to aircraft defects. However, about 1 delay or cancellation case occurs out of 100 departures worldwide whereas 1 quarter case does in Korean domestic industry. Independent LCC carriers in Korea have almost double case. Most cases are recovered by replacing aircraft components. Airlines have prepared the spare components based on the reliability data by manufacturers to rectify defects or perform preventive maintenances. The total value for initial spares including engine is 40% of the aircraft price when they operate less than 5 aircraft. The more airlines operate the aircraft, the less the ratio of the investment for spares reflecting the economy of scale. This study intends to suggest how to improve the efficiencies as well as the safety of LCC throughout parts pooling including engines.

  • 본 논문에서는 컴퓨터 그래픽에서 주로 적용되어 왔던 푸아송 디스크 샘플링(Poisson Disk Sampling)을 3차원 영상 모델링에 적용하는 것을 제안한다. 이 샘플링 기법은 3차원 영상 센서의 핵심 기술로 사용되는 라이다 센서를 활용해 수집한 PointCloud가 특정 위치로 뭉쳐지는 클러스터 현상이 발생하지 않고 균일하게 분포하게 할 뿐 아니라 영상의 노이즈도 제거한다. Intel의 라이다 센서 L515와 Apple의 태블릿 라이다 센서를 이용해 추출한 PointCloud를 Poisson Disk Sampling 과정을 거쳐 Mesh를 생성하고 이를 SLAM 기법으로 추출한 경우와 비교한다. PointCloud의 수를 줄였을 때 더 좋은 Mesh를 생성할 수 있다.

  • 효소는 생명 현상을 구현하는 단백질 촉매인데 그 동안 효소의 촉매 반응 속도는 Michaelis-Menten(MM) 모델로 대부분 설명되어 왔다. 그러나 MM 모델은 실험으로 측정된 단일 효소 반응시간의 확률분포 모양을 설명할 수 없다. MM 모델에 반응계수의 정적 무질서 개념을 도입한 효소 반응 모델도 기질 농도에 따라 변화하는 효소 반응시간의 통계적 요동을 설명하지 못한다. 우리는 단일 효소 반응시간의 통계적 요동이 기질에 따라 변화하는 양상을 설명하기 위해 효소 반응을 구성하는 개별 화학반응을 단순히 푸아송 과정이 아닌 갱신과정(renewal process)으로 확장한 효소 반응 모델을 제안한다. 우리는 이 단일 효소 반응 모델과 기질에 따른 효소 반응시간 분산 변화 데이터를 비교하여 효소-기질 복합체의 지속시간 분포를 간단한 형태로 얻어내었다. 또한, 이 정보를 토대로 전산모사를 수행하여 효소 반응시간의 확률분포를 얻어내고, 실제 실험 결과 및 기존 이론들과 비교하였다. 뿐만 아니라 단일 효소 반응시간의 확률분포를 연속 시간 임의의 보행자(continuous time random walker)의 대기시간 확률분포(waiting time distribution)로 대응하면, 평균 제곱 변위가 시간에 따라 단순히 증가 하지 않는 고분자의 특이 수송(anomalous diffusion) 현상도 정량적으로 설명할 수 있었다.

  • A quasi two-dimensional model for numerical simulation of gas discharge is presented, based on the finite-element flux-corrected transport method. A one-dimensional continuity convection-diffusion equation coupled Poisson's equation is solved to calculate the charge density variation and the electric field is evaluated by the classical disk method. Results calculated for various benchmark problems verify the accuracy of the proposed model and illustrate its performance. This model has been applied to a streamer simulation, and the results are shown to agree well with previously published results.

  • Plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) with capability of being recharged from the power-grid will reduce oil consumption. Also, the PHEV will affect the utility operations by adding additional electricity demand for charging. In this research, the power-grid impact by demand of PHEV charging is presented and the optimal charging control strategy for utility operators is proposed with simulated data. The penetration of PHEV is assumed to be 50% in the circumstances of Korean passenger car market and Korean power-grid market limitedly. To obtain smooth load shape and utilize the surplus electricity in power-grid at midnight and dawn, the peak of charging demand should be controlled to be located before 4:00 a.m., and the time slot which can supply the electricity power to PHEV should be allowed between 1:00 a.m.$\sim$7:00 a.m.

  • The photocount distribution from a quasi-thermal light source, a moving ground glass disk (surface roughness; 9 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$) illuminated by a well-stabilized He-Ne laser, is measured by a photon counting system, and analyzed with theoretical calculations. The distribution approaches the Poisson distribution for the long coherence time ${\tau}_c$ compared to the measuring time T. The coherence time ${\tau}_c$ of the quasi-thermal source can be changed by controlling the velocity v of the motor driving the glass disk. By the comparison of experimental results and theory for the condition of T/ ${\tau}_c$ >>1, the coherence time ${\tau}_c$ of the quasi-thermal source is turned out to be in the range of 31.43 $mutextrm{s}$~2.48 $mutextrm{s}$ according to the circumferential velocity of the disk, and compared with the simple calculation of $\sigma$/v.

  • Maritime pilots are always exposed to unpredictable risks present in the marine environment because they are boarding ships through pilot ladders or accommodation ladders at sea. Since the pilot plays an important role in securing the safety of a ship entering or departing from a port, an injury to the pilot substantially affects the overall safety of the ship. The purpose of this study is to analyze pilot injuries and predict accidents. For this purpose, pilot injury cases are analyzed and potential situations are identified through a survey. Pilot injuries are also predicted. The survey was analyzed using the IPA (Importance-Performance Analysis) methodology, and the binomial distribution and Poisson distribution were used to predict injury trends. As a result of the study, 316.8 nearmiss occurred per pilot injury, and if the current accident management system is maintained, the probability of pilot injury occurring within 3 months is 64.4%. Based on the research results, the need for a management system to prevent pilot injuries and reinforcement of maintenance and installation for pilot ladders was suggested.

  • The numerical simulation of point-to-plane discharge of nitrogen at medium pressure has been achieved by a quasi-2d numerical model. In the model, we calculate the distributions of electric charges which are varying as temporal and space and determine the electric field depending on space charge distribution by solving Poisson's equation. The continuity equations are treated numerically by using FCT (Flux-Corrected Transport) Algorithm and FEM (Finite Element Method). The numerical simulation results make us to understand the physical characteristics of nitrogen discharge at 50 torr. The comparison with experimental results[1] shows a good qualitative agreement.

  • The Army, Navy, and Air Force are making various efforts to develop a weapon system that incorporates the 4th industrial revolution technology so that it can be used in multi-domain operations. In order to effectively demonstrate the integrated combat power through the weapon system to which the new technology is applied, it is necessary to establish a network environment in which each weapon system can transmit and receive information smoothly. For this, it is essential to analyze the Information Exchange Requirement(IER) of each weapon system, but many IER analysis studies did not sufficiently reflect the various considerations of the actual tactical network. Therefore, this study closely analyzes the research methods and results of the existing information exchange requirements analysis studies. In IER analysis, the size of the message itself, the size of the network protocol header, the transmission/reception structure of the tactical network, the information distribution process, and the message occurrence frequency. In order to be able to use it for future IER prediction, we present a technique for calculating the information exchange requirement as a probability distribution using the Poisson distribution and the probability generating function. In order to prove the validity of this technique, the results of the probability distribution calculation using the message list and network topology samples are compared with the simulation results using Network Simulator 2.
