  • Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) poses an increasing public health threat and has limited treatment options with high associated mortality. Genotypes of carbapenemase that threaten public health (blaKPC, blaNDM, blaIMP, and blaVIM) and blaOXA-48-like genes were detected by phenotypic and molecular diagnosis, and related gene distribution patterns were investigated. Phenotypic testing using the modified Hodge test confirmed positivity in all 41 strains examined, and carbapenemase inhibitory testing using meropenem+phenyl boronic acid or meropenem+EDTA confirmed positivity in 18 and 8 strains, respectively. Polymerase chain reaction revealed the presence of amplification products in 28 strains of blaKPC, 25 strains of blaNDM, 5 strains of blaIMP, 1 strain of blaVIM, and 13 blaOXA-48-like strains. In addition, 7 strains of blaKPC+blaNDM, 1 strain of blaKPC+blaIMP, 1 strain of blaNDM+blaOXA-48-like, 1 strain of blaNDM+blaVIM, 4 strains of blaKPC+blaNDM+blaIMP, and 4 strains of blaKPC+blaNDM+blaOXA-48-like were identified. Melting curve analysis using real-time PCR was wholly consistent with PCR results. The study shows genetic identification of highly specific CRE by real-time PCR could be used to provide early diagnoses and infection control, improve surveillance, and prevent the transmission of CRE.

  • The satirical content of the absurd play, centered on Lee Keun-sam's play, represents the family image of a modern capitalist society where only duty is emphasized while the characters are lost in love with the family. They show humans becoming subordinate to economic logic as traditional relationships and family relationships change into material ones due to the rapid development of the economy. The narrator expresses the roles of the performer and the narrator together. It also presents the plot as a characteristic element of epic and absurd dramas, and directs actors as directors. It also foretells the events that will take place in the future, presents the inner consciousness of the characters in the play, and reduces and expands events and times. In terms of conflict, in order to fulfill the financial responsibility of their children, the professor translates them like a machine and the wife distributes the money they earn as they demand. The middle-aged professor and his wife are not willing to make a difference in the real world, so specific conflicts are not revealed. Therefore, no concrete conflict appears within this work. The plot of consisted of 22 epicentre compartments, consisting of a time frame from evening to the next morning. And no special events happen and show only one family's daily life. In addition, materials that show simple repetition of daily life such as newspapers, rice, birthdays, etc. are effectively showing the character of absurdity through repeated structure. The linguistic features of the absurd play focus on expressing anxiety, despair, fantasy and the sense of loss that the object's purpose has disappeared. The stage system avoids detailed portrayals of naturalist plays and creates a thoroughly simplified image that the theme of the play demands, which shows that the stage unit is also an important element that characterizes the absurdity of reflexes.

  • The poem 'Kyungjusipiyung(慶州十二詠)' written by Seo, Geo-jeong(徐居正) describes sentiments felt for the ruined historical and cultural landscape of Silla's capital city, Kyungju. It differs from the existing 'Eight Sceneries(八景)' as it conveys the strong metaphorical aesthetics of ruins as the episodes and figures are sung, as well as the myths and stories related to the representative holy places of the Silla culture: Gyelim(鷄林), Banwolseong(半月城), Najeong(蘿井), Oneung(五陵), Geumosan(金鰲山), the scenic beauty of deep placeness, Poseokjeong(鮑石亭), Mooncheon(蚊川), Cheomseongdae(瞻星臺), Boonhwangsa(芬皇寺), Youngmyosa(靈妙寺) and Grave of the General Kim Yu-Sin(金庾信墓). Compared with the former "Eight Sceneries" Poems, including Seo Geojeong's 'Kyungjusipiyung', there is a difference in the content of theme recitation, as well as in structure and form, especially with the deep impression of the classical features of the meanings and acts. The sequence of theme recitation seems to be composed of more than two visual corridors visited during trips that last longer than two days. The dominant emotions expresses in this poem, through written in the spring, are regret and sadness such as 'worn', 'broken and ruined', 'old and sad', without touching on the beauty of nature and the taste for life that is found in most of the Eight Sceneries Poems. Thus, the feelings of the reciter himself, Seo, Geo-jeong, about the described sceneries and their symbolism are more greatly emphasized than the beauty of form. The characteristic aspect of his experiences of ruins expressed from 'Kyungjusipiyung' is that the experiences were, first of all, qualitative of the aura conveyed; that is, the quality omnipresent throughout the culture of Silla as reflected in the twelve historical and cultural landscapes. In this poem, the cultural ruins of the invisible dimension such as the myths and legends are described by repetition, parallelism, juxtaposition, reflection and admiration from the antiphrases, as well as the civilized ruins of the visible dimension such as the various sceneries and features of Kyungju. This seems to be characteristic of the methods by which Seo, Geo-jeong appreciates 'Silla' in the poem 'Kyungjusipiyung'. Ruins as an Aesthetic Object imply the noble pride of Seo, Geo-jeong in identifying himself with the great nature of ruins. In 'Kyungjusipiyung', the images of the ruins of Silla and Kyungju are interspersed in spite of his positive recognition of 'the village of Kyungju' based on his records. However, though the concept of ruins has a pessimistic tone connoting the road of extinction and downfall, the aspect here seems to ambivalently contain the desire to recover and revive Kyungju through the Chosun Dynasty as adominant influence on the earlier Chosun's literary tide. The aesthetics of the scenery found in Seo, Geo-jeong's 'Kyungjusipiyung' contain the strongest of metaphor and symbolism by converting the experiences of the paradoxical ruins into the value of reflective experiences.

  • Purpose: Mucopolysaccharidosis type I (MPS I) is a lysosomal storage disorder caused by deficiency of the enzyme ${\alpha}$-L-iduronidase, which leads to a broad spectrum of multisystemic manifestations. Short stature and decreased growth velocity are prominent features of MPS I. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) on growth of Korean MPS I patients from a single center. Methods: Height data were obtained by retrospective chart review of 10 Korean patients with MPS I who had received ERT for a minimum of 3 years. Height was expressed as standard deviation scores (SDS) based on normative data. Annual growth rates were calculated before and during ERT. A piecewise regression model was used to analyze height z-scores before and after treatment. Individual analysis was performed for impact of phenotype [(severe (Hurler) versus attenuated (Hurler-Scheie, Scheie)] on growth. Results: Annual growth was 3.3 cm (z-score= -0.21) in the year before ERT and 6.2 cm (z-score= 0.17), 5.8 cm (z-score= 0.07), and 3.8 cm (z-score= -0.4) in the first, second, and third years of ERT, respectively. Regression analysis showed improvement in the slope after ERT (difference= 0.04; P=0.022). Estimated slope differences between severe and attenuated phenotypes were statistically significant before (P=0.001) and after treatment (P<0.0001), although no significant difference was noted when stratified by phenotype. Conclusion: ERT with aldurazyme appears to have a positive impact on linear growth in patients with MPS I.

  • In this study, a 3D transmitting boundary in water-saturated transversely isotropic soil strata has been developed based on u-w formulation for application to general 3D analysis. Behavior in the far field region is expanded in the Fourier series, and dynamic stiffness for each term is obtained based on the u-w formulation. Transformation of the dynamic stiffness is presented to combine the transmitting boundary with the 3D finite elements for the near field region formulated in a 3D Cartesian coordinate system. The developed transmitting boundary is verified through a comparison of the dynamic behavior of a rigid circular foundation with the results from the existing numerical method. In addition, the developed transmitting boundary is applied to the analysis of the dynamic behavior of rigid foundations of diverse shapes, and the effects of the level of the groundwater table on the dynamic stiffness of a rigid rectangular foundation in the water-saturated transversely isotropic layered stratum are studied.

  • Myostatin is a transforming growth and differentiation factor-${\beta}$ family member that acts as a negative regulator of muscle growth. Previously, mutations in the myostatin gene were known to be related to double muscling phenotypes in cattle. Because myostatin gene is highly related to muscle mass, also meat quality, in cattle, we sequenced whole myostatin mRNA and investigated the SNPs (Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms) in Korean cattle (Hanwoo). The results indicated that Hanwoo had an SNP in nt2385 and this mutation can be a useful marker with further verifications. We also investigated expression patterns of the myostatin gene from various muscle tissues and organs. Northern blotting results indicated that myostatin expression was restricted in muscles with variable expression levels. The results presented here can be used as a valuable information for meat quality related traits and muscle mass in cattle.

  • Computers require analytic and processing capability for all possibilities of human expression in order to process sentences like human beings. Linguistic information processing thus forms the initial basis. When analyzing a sentence syntactically, it is necessary to divide the sentence into components, find obligatory arguments focusing on predicates, identify the sentence core, and understand semantic relations between the arguments and predicates. In this study, the method applied a case frame dictionary based on The Korean Standard Dictionary of The National Institute of the Korean Language; in addition, we used a CRF Model that constructed subcategorization of predicates as featured in Korean Lexical Semantic Network (UWordMap) for semantic role labeling. Automatically tagged semantic roles based on the CRF model, which established the information of words, predicates, the case-frame dictionary and hypernyms of words as features, were used. This method demonstrated higher performance in comparison with the existing method, with accuracy rate of 83.13% as compared to 81.2%, respectively.

  • In this study, the points of LiDAR were modified in order to generate various DEM resolutions by applying LiDAR data in Ulsan. Since the LiDAR data have points with 1m intervals, the number of points for each resolution was modified to the size of 1, 5, 10, 30, 50, 100m by uniformly eliminating the points. A runoff analysis was performed on Taehwa river and its tributary, Dongcheon, with 200 year rainfall exceedance probability. 2-dimensional inundation analysis was performed based on the density of LiDAR data using FLUMEN, which was used to establish domestic flood risk map. Once DEM data obtained from LiDAR survey are used, it is expected that the study results can be used as data in determining optimal grid spacing, which is economical, effective and accurate in establishing flood defence plans including the creation of flood risk map.

  • The study aims to figure out how to improve existing examination tools to distinguish mathematically gifted children and to clarify procedures and criteria for selecting candidates. Toward this end, it examined correlations between grades of gifted children selected through evaluation by pen-and-pencil tests and their creative problem-solving capability and performance assessment, and analyzed learning activities of the gifted children. According to the analysis, results of pen-and-pencil tests turned out to have low correlations with their creative problem-solving capability and performance assessment, but it was found that their creative problem-solving capability has high correlations with results of performance assessment. The analysis also found that there were some students who participated in a program for gifted children with high marks but had difficulties in adapting themselves to it. It found that there were children who joined the program with low marks but emerged as successive performers later on. In this regard, the existing examination tools to tell the gifted students apart need to be used to the fullest extent, and other diversified tools to evaluate mathematical capabilities that include mathematical creativity need to be further studied and developed. Qualitative studies on affective development of the gifted students and their creative problem-solving processes need to be conducted.
