The detection and distribution of Aeromonas in water supplies were investigated by using the USEPA Method 1605. Water samples were collected from the Han River, finished waters and tap waters supplied from Water Treatment Plants in Seoul monthly from July 2002 to December 2003. Aeromonas species in each water sample were quantified based on the development of yellow colonies on the surface of membrane filter using a selective medium (Ampicillin-Dextrin Agar with Vancomycin). The Quality Control (QC) for this study met the acceptance criteria of Method 1605. The concentrations of Aeromonas species in surface water samples ranged from $1.0{\times}10^{0}\;to\;9.8{\times}10^{3}\;CFU/ml$. Aeromonas species were found only in one tap water sample with concentration of 1 CFU/500 ml. No Aeromonas species were found in any finished water samples. Aeromonas species detected here were identified as A. salmonicida(51%), A. caviae(4.7%), A. schubertti(3.4%), A. sobria(3.8%), A. hydrophila(2.1%), and A. ichithiosmia(0.4%). A. salmonicida was the dominant species, which is of no significance to human health. Chlorine resistance of A. salmonicida was evaluated and as a result, 99.99% of A. salmonicida decreased after 30 seconds exposure at residual free chlorine 0.2 mg/L. These suggest that the waters supplied in Seoul may be safe against the pathogenic agent Aeromonas.
The contamination effect of toluene in the airstream on PEM fuel cell performance was studied with various toluene concentration under different operation conditions. And the recovery of the cell performance by applying clean air and the removal of toluene in the air by adsorption of active carbon were investigated. The toluene concentration range used in the experiments was from 0.1 ppm to 5.0 ppm. The performance degradation and recovery were measured by constant-current discharging and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS). Toluene adsorption capacity of KOH impregnated active carbon was obtained from the adsorption isotherm curve. The severity of the contamination increased with increasing toluene concentration, current density and air stoichiometry, but decrease with increasing relative humidity. The cell performance was recovered by toluene oxidation with oxygen and water in humidified neat air. EIS showed that the increase of charge transfer resistance due to toluene adsorption on Pt surface mainly reduced the performance of PEMFC. Toluene adsorption capacity of active carbon decreased as KOH weight increased in KOH impregnated active carbon.

The purpose of this study is to establish experimentally the mechanical properties of fiber reinforced concrete using kenaf dosages and propose the usable method of kenaf fiber in the concrete industry as natural fiber materials. Kenaf fiber help make the concrete strength including tensile and flexural stronger, more resistant to plastic and drying shrinkage, less amount of carbon dioxide because of having a rough surface and excellent tensile strength of fiber and improving the concrete's corrosion resistance. It is to select the kenaf dosages of 4 cases (0, 0.3, 0.6 and $0.9kg/m^3$ and perform various tests including slump, air content, plastic and drying shrinkage, flexural and tensile strength for fiber reinforced concrete. The results of this study are as follows : In case of increasing kenaf fiber dosages, show the slump decrease and air content increase, also take effect results for increasing concrete strength including flexural and tensile, decreasing plastic and drying shrinkage. therefore, considered test results and cost, the optimum dosages of kenaf fiber is proposed about $0.6kg/m^3$ and need to study on the site application considering concrete quality and another compared tests.

The micron-sized ITO(indium tin oxide) particles were prepared by spray pyrolysis from aqueous precursor solutions for indium, and tin and organic additives solution. Organic additives solution with citric acid(CA) and ethylene glycol(EG) were added to aqueous precursor solution for Indium and Tin. The obtained ITO particles prepared by spray pyrolysis from the aqueous solution without organic additives solution had spherical and filled morphologies whereas the obtained ITO particles with organic additives solution had more hollow and porous morphologies with increasing mole of organic additives. The micron-sized ITO particle with organic additives was changed fully to nano-sized ITO particle whereas the micron-sized ITO particle without organic additives was not changed fully to nano-sized ITO particle after post-treatment at $700^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours and wet-ball milling for 24 hours. The size of primary ITO particle by Debye-Scherrer formula and surface resistance of ITO pellet were measured.
Candida biofilms are self-organized microbial communities growing on the surfaces of host tissues and medical devices. These biofilms have been displaying increasing resistance against conventional antifungal agents. The roots of Scutellaria baicalensis have been widely used for medicinal purpose throughout East Asia. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of S. baicalensis aqueous extract upon the preformed biofilms of 10 clinical C. albicans isolates, and assess the mechanism of the antibiofilm activity. Its effect on preformed biofilm was judged using an XTT reduction assay and the metabolic activity of all tested strains were reduced ($57.7{\pm}17.3$%) at MIC values. The S. baicalenis extract inhibited (1, 3)-${\beta}$-D-glucan synthase activity. The effect of S. baicalensis on the morphology of C. albicans was related to the changes in growth caused by inhibiting glucan synthesis; most cells were round and swollen, and cell walls were densely stained or ruptured. The anticandidal activity was fungicidal, and the extract also arrested C. albicans cells at $G_0/G_1$. The data suggest that S. baicalensis has multiple fatal effects on target fungi, which ultimately result in cell wall disruption and killing by inhibiting (1, 3)-${\beta}$-D-glucan synthesis. Therefore, S. baicalensis holds great promise for use in treating and eliminating biofilm-associated Candida infections.
$In_2O_3$-based thin film sensor with 500-600 nm thick was fabricated for the detection of CO gas by rf magnetron sputtering. In order to improve both sensitivity to CO gas and selectivity to hydrogen gas containing -CH, ultra-thin transition metal Co catalyst was sputtered over $In_2O_3$ thin film and annealed at $500^{\circ}C$. Sensitivity to CO was maximum at the thickness of Co 2.1 nm and $300^{\circ}C$, and that to $C_3H_8$ was at the thickness of Co 1.4 nm and $350-400^{\circ}C$. From the x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) result, ultra-thin Co was existed into CoO covered with $Co_2O_3$ on $In_2O_3$ particles, and thus p-n junction of $In_2O_3(n-type)$-CoO(p-type) was thought to be formed. In this p-n junction type sensors, sensing mechanism with reducing gases can be explained by the variation of depletion layer thickness formed in the interface.
The growth patterns of primary culture of bovine brain microvessel endothelial cells (BBMECs) were studied using electron microscopy when grown on $3.0{\mu}m$ and $0.4{\mu}m$ pore Transwell. The capillary fragments and isolated endothelial cells grew on collagen coated culture plate and Transwell membrane. The BBMECs grew only on the upper surface of membrane of $0.4{\mu}m$. But BBMECs on $3.0{\mu}m$ pore membrane migrated through the pore and grew on the opposite side of the membrane. In summary, BBMECs isolated by enzyme digestion could migrate through $3.0{\mu}m$ pore membrane but not through $0.4{\mu}m$ pore membrane. So $0.4{\mu}m$ pore membrane instead of $3{\mu}m$ pore membrane should be used for drug transport experiment or transendothelial electrical resistance measurement.
Fabricated were ultra-shallow $p^+-n$ junctions on n-type Si(100) substrates using decaborane $(B_{10}H_{14})$ ion implantation. Decaborane ions were implanted at the acceleration voltages of 5 kV to 10 kV and at the dosages of $1\times10^{12}\textrm{cm}^2$.The implanted specimens were annealed at $800^{\circ}C$, $900^{\circ}C$ and $1000^{\circ}C$ for 10 s in $N_2$ atmosphere through a rapid thermal process. From the measurement of the implantation-induced damages through $2MeV^4 He^{2+}$ channeling spectra, the implanted specimen at the acceleration voltage of 15 kV showed higher backscattering yield than those of the bare n-type Si wafer and the implanted specimens at 5 kV and 10 kV. From the channeling spectra, the calculated thicknesses of amorphous layers induced by the ioin implantation at the acceleration voltages of 5 kV, 10 kV and 15 kV were 1.9 nm, 2.5 nm and 4.3 nm, respectively. After annealing at $800^{\circ}C$ for 10 s in $N_2$ atmosphere, most implantation-induced damages of the specimens implanted at the acceleration voltage of 10 kV were recovered and they exhibited the same channeling yield as the bare Si wafer. In this case, the calculated thickness of the amorphous layer was 0.98 nm. Hall measurements and sheet resistance measurements showed that the dopant activation increased with implantation energy, ion dosage and annealing temperature. From the current-voltage measurement, it is observed that leakage current density is decreased with the increase of annealing temperature and implantation energy.
We have studied the properties of Ag/undoped ZnO (ZnO) multilayer thin films deposited on glass substrate by the facing targets sputtering method. In an attempt to find out the optimum conditions of the Ag thin film, which would be coated on the ZnO thin film, we investigated the changes of sheet resistance, transmittance and surface morphology as a function of deposition times and the substrate temperature. The electrical and optical characteristics of Ag/ZnO multilayers were evaluated by a four-point probe, a UV/VIS spectrometer with a spectral range of 390-770 nm, a X-ray Diffractometer (XRD), an atomic force microscope (AFM) and a Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), respectively. We were able to prepare the Ag/ZnO multilayer thin film with sheet resistance of 9.25 $\Omega/sq.$ and transmittance of over 80% at 550nm.
This study tries to propose the most effective pavement texture method through the performance evaluation of variable texture methods. Noise 2$\sim$3dB is reduced in the section of uniform space 18m longitudinal tinning. This result is proved by comparing the magnitude of noise in two sections. The noise of 26mm longitudinal firming section is greater than that of 18mm section by 2$\sim$3dB(A). The skid resistances measured in all test section show the reasonable results. The roughness or all the test sections satisfies AASHTO roughness standard (PrI 16cm/km). The result or questionnaire survey about driving quality shows that the longitudinal tinning is the most effective method. As the result of a visual measurement, it is proved that the section applied uniform space 26mm longitudinal tinning and the general section applied uniform space 26mm transverse tinning could drain water effectively. As the result of analysis with the ranking method, the 18mm longitudinal tinning in selected as one of the most effective tinning methods. In addition, 26mm longitudinal tinning, random space transverse tinning, and transverse drag are selected in order.
