Effect of Liner Component Coatings by Oxidized Starch on Properties of Corrugated Board (라이너지의 산화전분 코팅이 골판지의 물성에 미치는 영향)

  • Coating was carried out on liner components of B flute, single-wall corrugated board(SK180/S120/K200) to examine the effect of liner component coatings by oxidized starch on the properties of corrugated board. Both bursting strength and edgewise compression strength(ECS) of corrugated board were improved by coating of its liner components with oxidized starch. Bursting strength of corrugated board rapidly increased with an initial increase of coating weight, but as the coating weight further increased, there was no increase in bursting strength. The results showed 30.3% improvement for $2.32g/m^2$ coating on outside liner component, 36.8% improvement for $4.84g/m^2$ coating on inside liner component and 39.9% improvement for $7.16g/m^2$ coating on both liner components in bursting strength of corrugated board. Regardless of treated liner components, ECS of corrugated board was improved by coating of oxidized starch, and especially greater improvement was accomplished when corrugated board was coated on inside liner component or both liner components at low level of coating weight - 11.3% improvement for $1.58g/m^2$ coating on Inside liner component and 11.9% improvement for $2.99g/m^2$ coating on both liner components.

The Change in Interfacial and Mechanical Properties for Glass Fiber/p-DCPD Composites with Degree of Ruthenium Catalyst Activation (루테늄촉매 활성정도에 따른 유리섬유/폴리다이사이클로펜타다이엔 복합재료의 기계 및 계면물성 변화)

  • At ruthenium (Ru) catalyst was exposed from the atmosphere, the degree of catalyst activation decreased. The change of catalyst activity with the number of days of exposure to air for the Ru catalyst was confirmed using the surface tension method quantitatively. Mechanical properties and surfactant change after polymerization by DCPD using Ru catalyst for each air exposure day was evaluated. The Ru catalyst mixed with a dilution agent was exposed in the air and color was monitored for each day. Surface tension was measured using Wilhelmy and PTFE and associated with different catalyst activities. Heat was measured in real time during polymerizing DCPD with Ru catalyst. After polymerization, tensile strength was measured for p-DCPD and the change of material property was measured. Interfacial properties were also evaluated via microdroplet pull-out tests between glass fiber and p-DCPD. The surface tension was stable until the 4 days (33 dyne/cm) whereas the surface energy increased at the 10 days (34 dyne/cm), which could be correlated with oxidation of the catalyst. Tensile property and interfacial shear strength (IFSS) was also stable until the 4 days (tensile strength: 38 MPa and IFSS: 26 MPa) whereas the mechanical property decrease at 10 days (tensile strength: 15 MPa and IFSS: 3 MPa) dramatically.

Effect of Hydrofluoric Acid Etching on Shear Bond Strength between Resin Cement and Zirconia cores (표면 불산처리가 레진시멘트와 지르코니아 하부구조물의 전단결합강도에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of hydrofluoric acid etching treatment on the bonding strength of yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystal(Y-TZP). Four groups of zirconia-resin cement specimens were prepared; 1) ZGS group (zirconia, no treatment), 2) ZGSH group (zirconia, hydrofluoric acid etching treatment) 3) H-ZGS group (Hybrid zirconia, no treatment) 4) H-ZGSH group (Hybrid zirconia, hydrofluoric acid etching treatment). The shear bond strength between zirconia and porcelain was measured using a Instron Universal Testing Machine(Model DBBP-500, Instron Corporation, Kyonggi, Korea). Data were statistically analyzed using independent t-test and two-way ANOVA(${\alpha}=0.05$). The ceramic-resin cement bonding strength was affected by hydrofluoric acid etching treatment(p<0.05). Digital microscope examination of the fracture surface showed mixed failures with adhesive and cohesive types in hydrofluoric acid etching treatment with treated zirconia and hybrid zirconia groups.

Effect of Coatings of Oxidized Starch on Properties of Linerboard (산화전분 코팅이 골판지 원지의 물성에 미치는 영향)

  • Two linerboards consisting of corrugated board were coated with oxidized starch solutions to investigate the change of their properties and analyze the effect of coating on them. The coating of linerboards with oxidized starch resulted in improvement in the properties related to corrugated board properties by increasing fiber bonding and rigidity. The improvement of ring crush strength by coating was greater in inside linerboard than in outside linerboard. Burst index of linerboards rapidly increased with an initial increase of coating weight, but as the coating weight further increased, there was no increase in burst index. Coating on linerboards with oxidized starch at low coating weight improved stiffness of them. There were no significant changes in tearing resistance of linerboards by coating of oxidized starch. The coating resulted in increase in air resistance and sizing degree of linerboards.

  • In the fabrication of steel bridges, blast cleaning prior to painting is carried out on the steel members to clean the forged surface and to increase the adhesive property of the applied painting systems. The effect of blast cleaning on the fatigue strength improvement of the weld joints, however, is not clear. In this study, Almen strips and steel specimens were blast-treated, conforming to ten types of blast-cleaning conditions deducted from the blast-cleaning conditions of seven steel structure fabrication companies. The arc height, roughness, hardness, and compressive residual stress were measured before and after the implementation of the ten blast-cleaning methods, and the relationship between the blast conditions and the measured values was studied. The geometry of the weld toe and the compressive residual stress near the weld toe were also measured before and after the blast cleaning of the butt-welded joints, and fatigue tests were carried out on the butt weld joints. The test results showed that blast cleaning significantly increases the fatigue strength and limit.

  • This study was investigated to observe morphological changes of two pre-astronauts' hair, male and female by electron microscopy and to analyze its tensile strength by using rheometer. The surface of those two pre-astronauts' hair, which were very rough and irregular, contained separated scales and destroyed remnants of cuticular cells. Also, there were many holes on the cytoplasm of the cuticular cells which forms the cuticle layer. The destruction begins when the endocuticle where the holes form gets destroyed. And then, The tensile strength of female pre-astronaut's hair was 14.60 mm which is 10% reduced, compared to that of the normal healthy hair. Thus, this result thought to be due to the prolonged change of the biorhythm and psychological instability of the pre-astronauts.

Effect of Atmospheric Pressure Flame Plasma Treatment on Surface and Adhesive Bonding Properties between Steel Plate and Rubber (대기압 화염 플라즈마 처리가 강판의 표면 및 고무와의 접착특성에 미치는 영향)

  • To increase the adhesive strength of acrylonitrile butadiene rubber(NBR) and steel plate, the atmospheric pressure flame plasma(APFP) treatment device is applied. The effect of various conditions(processing velocity and distance) is experimentally investigated to ascertain the optimum conditions to yield the best adhesive properties. It is found that the optimum distance between burner port and steel plate is 40mm and the optimum processing velocity is 50m/min at given condition. When the surface is coated twice with the bonding agent, the adhesion strength of APFP treated steel plate is increased to about 20.5%. It suggests that the surface modification of steel by flame plasma treatment at atmospheric pressure is a proper and applicable method to improve the adhesion strength between steel and rubber.

  • A method to determine the thickness of silicone resin film on zinc eletroplated steel using X-ray compton scattering was investigated. On the basis of the fact that compton scattering process predominates over photoelectric absorption for the light elements such as C, H, O and Si, the compton scattered line of RhK$_{\alpha}$ was used to determine the thickness of silicone resin. In this method, the standard calibration curve for thickness determination of silicone resin film was found to be linear in the range of 0.2~5.0 ${mu}$m film thickness. The analytical results agreed well with those obtained by the gravimetric method and the accuracy was found to be 0.22 ${mu}$m.

  • A study of shear bond strength between porcelain and alloy pretreated with sandblasting, sputter etching, and sputter etching after sandblasting was established by Instron universal testing machine. 1. Sputter etched group after sandblasted(group IV) and sandblasted group(group II) were stronger than control group(group I) (P<0.05). 2. Sputter etched group(group III) and control group(group I) were not different(P>0.05).

  • 본 연구는 밭에서 발생하는 비점오염물질을 저감하기 위하여 기존의 볏짚거적을 이용한 저감방법에 PAM과 Gypsum을 처리하였을 때, 표면유출량과 기저유출량, 유사량 그리고 탁도 등에 미치는 영향을 모의하고자 하였다. 연구 방법은 인공강우 시험기와 토양상자를 이용한 실내실험을 통하여 지표피복재의 종류와 강우강도 그리고 경사도에 따른 직접유출량과 유사량을 측정하고 비교하였다. 경사도 (10 %, 20 %)와 강우강도 (30 mm/hr) 그리고 지표피복재의 종류에 따라 실험처리를 하였으며, 지표피복재는 볏짚(Rice straw mat)+PAM (Polyacrylamide)+Gypsum, 볏짚+PAM+톱밥 (Sawdust)+Gypsum, 볏짚+PAM+왕겨 (Chaff)+Gypsum으로 구분하여 제작하였다. 실험 결과 볏짚을 이용한 다양한 피복소재를 이용해 지표를 피복할 경우, 대조구(나지)에 대비 유출수량, 토양유실 그리고 탁도 저감에 큰 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 지표를 피복한 처리구의 평균 표면 유출수량은 대조구와 비교할 때 72~85.6 %가 저감되었다. 그러나 동일조건의 Gypsum을 첨가하지 않은 연구와 비교 시 Gypsum의 혼용으로 인한 효과는 크지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 세분화된 강우강도와 경사도 조건에 따른 실험이 필요하지만 본 연구의 결과에 기초할 때, 지표의 피복과 토양개량제를 첨가하는 방법은 강우 시 발생하는 표면유출수와 유사 그리고 탁수를 저감시킬 수 있는 최적영농관리방법 (Best management practice)의 하나로 판단된다.
