  • In this study, the polyurethane acrylates (PUA) resin with good adhesive and flexibility for adhesive for shoes and clothing were synthesized using that poly(tetramethylene adiphate glycol) (PTAd), poly(tetramethylene ether glycol) (PTMG) as polyester polyol and polyether polyol respectively, including 4,4'-methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI), isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI), 1,4-butandiol (1,4-BD), 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (2-HEMA) and dibutyl amine (DBA). The effect of polyol blend in the polyurethane acrylate on thermal and mechanical properties, adhesion strength and flexural strength were studied. The glass transition temperature (Tg) of PUA was confirmed in range of -70~-40 ℃. In addition, the glass transition temperature (Tg), decomposition temperature (Td), tensile strength adhesion strength and heat resistance were increased as increasing of PTAd amount while the elongation, water resistance and flexural properties were decreased. The synthesized polyurethane acrylate with 5:5 ratio of PTAd and PTMG indicated the highest adhesion strength and flexural properties.

  • In this study, solvent based polyurethane (PU) adhesives were prepared with the hydrocarbon resin and the acrylic modified hydrocarbon resin contents. The solvent based PU adhesive were increased with increasing tackifier concentration. The surface state of films showed good compatibility with increasing the PX-95 concentration but A-1100 series didn't present homogeneous phase more than 10 phr. Mechanical strength and peel strength were maximum at 5 phr tackifier concentration especially PX-95 series in solvent based PU adhesive.

  • Foam-type biodegradable polyurethane adhesives were developed as a non-lethal weapon against illegal fishing boats. The adhesives were prepared from a hardener of polymeric methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) and a base composed of polyester and/or polyether polyols. In order to accelerate biodegradability, starch, dextrin, and amylase were added into the base, and which present about 34% degradability within 4 weeks confirmed by OECD 301C method. For proper mixing and corresponding prompt foam reaction, viscosities of hardener and base compositions were investigated in the temperature ranges from 0 to $50^{\circ}C$. For fast completion of the foam forming and corresponding adhesion, rising time was recorded in the same temperature range, and the rising time of the adhesive was varied within around 1 minute. T-peel adhesion tests with cotton fabrics were performed which showed 20.78 N/cm and 11.95 N/cm as the maximum and the average values, respectively.

  • In this study, low-viscosity polyurethane hot-melt were synthesized with polyether polyol / polyester polyol, 4,4-dicyclohexylmethane diisocyanate ($H_{12}MDI$), 2-butanone oxime (MEKO) to improve the properties and peel strength. The properties of the synthesized low-viscosity polyurethane hot-melt was evaluated through FT-IR, viscosity meter and UTM. When the content of the reactive diluent increases and the NCO-blocked prepolymer decreases, the viscosity of low-viscosity polyurethane hot-melt adhesive was increased. When the ratio of OH-terminated oligomer, NCO-blocked prepolymer and content of reactive diluent is 1 : 0.5 : 0.5, low-viscosity polyurethane hot-melt showed 1.1 kgf/cm peel strength.

  • Adhesive joints are widely used for structural joining applications in various fields and environmental conditions. Polyurethane adhesive is using for LNG carrier with cryogenic temperature condition. In industrial application of polyurethane adhesive, void of adhesive layer is often discussed regarding its effects on bonding properties. In present study, artificial void were prepared on Polyurethane adhesive layer with various size and location. The single lap shear test was carried out by using prepared specimens under $-170^{\circ}C$. As a result, it was confirm that the void of adhesive layer didn't affect the adhesion properties independent of their size and location.

  • A series of ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) based hot melt adhesives containing different types and compositions of tackifier resins were prepared to investigate their rheological behavior and T-peel adhesion strength on polyurethane (PU) elastomeric sheets. C5 aliphatic hydrocarbon resin (C5 resin), C9 aromatic hydrocarbon resin (C9 resin), hydrogenated dicyclopentadiene resin ($H_2$-DCPD resin), and dicyclopentadiene and acrylic monomer copolymer resin (DCPD-acrylic resin) were used as the tackifiers for the hot melt adhesives. To determine the polarity of the tackifiers, their oxygen contents were analyzed, and the DCPDacrylic resin was found to contain an oxygen content higher than the other tackifiers. Only the DCPD-acrylic resin showed complete miscibility with EVA and the homogeneous phase of the hot melt adhesive blends at all compositions. The T-peel adhesion strength between the hot melt adhesives and polyurethane elastomeric sheets was mainly affected by the polarity of the tackifier resins in the hot melt adhesives, rather than by the storage moduli, G', of the hot melt adhesives themselves.

  • To improve hydrolytic stability of polyurethane (PU) adhesives, a silane coupling agent (SCA) was added. 3-Isocyanatopropyl triethoxy silane (ITS) as a SCA has two functional groups in the main chain and it is used to improve an interfacial interaction between polymer and inorganic material or metal. In this study, PU adhesives with different amounts of ITS from 0 to 1 wt% were synthesized. Pot time, modulus, thermal stablilty, and adhesive force of the obtained samples were measured. The results showed that the adhesives with ITS showed better properties than that of pure one.

  • In this study, polyurethane hot melt adhesive containing ester groups was synthesized. Three kinds of chain extenders were used to find out the best chain extender. Results showed that adhesive containing 1,4-butanediol as a chain extender exhibited the highest peel strength among them. Also, it was found that there existed the optimum molecular weight of 1,4-butanediol containing adhesive for make the highest peel strength.. Moreover, hot melt adhesive containing 1,4-butanediol chain extender was applied to various kinds of textiles substrate such as cotton, polyester, and urethane coated polyester textiles to study the effects of different substrates on the peel strength and water resistance at $60^{\circ}C$. It was found that cotton substrate showed the highest peel strength and urethane coated polyester substrate showed the highest resistance on $60^{\circ}C$ water.

  • As the demand for natural gas that satisfies environmental regulations increases, the quantities of natural gas cargo that carrier can load is also increasing. Natural gas is transported in a liquefied state at -163 ℃ to increase loading efficiency. Among several LNG CCS types, MARK-III types are generally adopted in terms of loading efficiency. The secondary barrier adhesives of the MARK-III, nevertheless, is subjected to tensile stress due to thermal contraction and tension in the environment. In terms of these reasons, local analysis of the adhesive to evaluate the stress state must be carried out. According to previous studies, local analysis is unavailable since material properties for secondary barrier adhesives have not been reported. Thus, in this study, the cryogenic tensile test and coefficient of thermal expansion of epoxy and polyurethane (PU15, PU45), which are most widely used at cryogenic temperatures, were experimentally analyzed. At cryogenic temperature, the mechanical behavior of the polyurethane adhesive was better than epoxy of the adhesive. the joint of FSB and epoxy adhesive of the secondary barrier has the maximum coefficient of thermal expansion difference at 25 ℃ and minimum at -150 ℃, respectively.
