Drug Adsorption Behavior of Polyolefin Infusion Tube Compared to PVC and PU (Non-PVC(폴리올레핀) 수액용 튜브 내면에서의 약물흡착 거동 - PVC 및 PU 수액튜브와의 비교)

  • PVC (polyvinyl chloride) intravenous fluid bags and tubes that contain DEHP (diethylhexyl phthalate) as a plasticizer have several associated disadvantages for intravenous injections. We investigated the drug absorption behaviors on the inner surface of an infusion tube that consisted of commercialized PVC/PU (polyurethane). We developed a non-PVC (polyolefin) tube in order to improve the efficacy of this drug administration method. We prepared four types of non-PVC (polyolefin) infusion tubes using a polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), syndiotactic 1,2-polybutadiene (PB), and styrene-ethylene (SE) copolymer elastomers were prepared using a single screw extruder. The four types of manufactured non-PVC (polyolefin) infusion tubes had good mechanical properties that were equivalent to PVC tube properties. The four types of prepared non-PVC (polyolefin) infusion tubes also prohibited drug absorption when compared to the commercialized PVC and PU tubes. Therefore, based on the results of this study, prepared non-PVC (polyolefin) tubes are good candidates for infusion because they prevent drug absorption and the release of DEHP.

  • For use as recyclable power cable insulations without dielectric oil, technology trends of IPP based thermoplastic polyolefin elastomer(TPO) nanocomposites were reviewed. In 2010 research results of IPP nanocomposite dielectrics for power capacitors showed promising high voltage properties except dielectric loss. Research of IPP based TPO nanocomposites for automotive exterior parts revealed considerable improvements of mechanical properties including impact strength, especially minimization of compatibilizer content, the origin of dielectric loss. A study on electrical properties of IPP based TPO nanocomposites containing a few weight percent of nanofillers for power cable insulations is suggested.

  • To accurately predict airbag deployment during a collision, the mechanical properties of polymer materials at high strain rates according to temperature should be considered. In this study, the mechanical properties of TPO and polypropylene were measured at high strain rates via split-Hopkinson pressure bar tests under various environmental temperatures ranging from -35 to 85℃. Through this, tensile strength and failure strain were derived for each strain rate. As the polymer phase moves toward the high strain rate region, the β-transition becomes dominant, resulting in a non-linear increase in tensile strength in the Eyring plot. Additionally, an airbag module impact simulation was conducted to verify the effects of strain rate on airbag deployment using the LS-DYNA software. It was found that the TPO and polypropylene airbag deployment could be accurately predicted using the strain-rate-dependent mechanical behavior rather than quasi-static properties alone.

  • The catalytic performance and availability of heteropoly compounds for the conversion of methanol to hydrocarbons have been studied. The effects of reaction conditions such as reaction temperature, methanol partial pressure and residence time and the effects of ion-exchange of the catalysts were examined for enhancing the yield of hydrocarbons and the selectivity of low olefins. Their acid strength depended on the kind of countercation, and the yield of hydrocarbons and the selectivity for propylene to propane were closely related to the electronegativity of the corresponding countercations. In contrast to the other heteropoly compounds, the ammonium salt showed a considerably high catalytic activity and a high selectivity for paraffins to low olefins.

  • Fog causes economic losses in transportation. It also results in health problems when it is combined with air pollutants. Considerable research efforts have focused on developing fog removal systems. However, most systems operate themselves after monitoring the fog. Additionally, continuous energy supply and maintenance are required to retain the fog-removal efficiency of the system. This study included the demonstration of a moss filter (a polyolefin mesh interlaced with moss) as a fog-removal method overcoming the limitations of the fog removal system. Three types of mosses with different surface structures were investigated to elucidate the relation between the moisture absorption rate and the structures. Among the different moss types, Hypopterygium japinicum showed the highest efficiency based on the smallest pore diameter and the largest total pore area. The visibilities with the moss filter and the polyolefin mesh were compared to perform the fog removal tests. The moss filter could provide a cost-effective and eco-friendly fog removal system with sustainability.

  • 국내 시설원예 재배면적은 1980년대 이후로 급격히 증가했고, 시설채소 재배면적의 99%는 비닐하우스가 차지한다. 이러한 비닐하우스 재배로 채소로 사계절 생산이 가능해졌고, 국민들은 하우스에서 생산된 채소를 어느 때나 구입할 수 있게 되었다. 이러한 시설채소 재배에 피복되는 연질 필름의 소재는 폴리에틸렌(PE) 필름, 에틸렌아세트산비닐(EVA) 필름, 폴리올레핀(PO) 필름 등으로 나누어지고, 이러한 열가성수지에 각종 첨가제를 추가해 보온성, 유적성, 내후성을 향상시킨다. 최근에는 연동하우스와 하우스 피복비용의 증가로 인해 내구성 있는 장기사용 필름에 관한 관심이 높아지고 있다.
