기술능력 발전의 시기별 특성: 포항제철 사례연구

  • Technological capabilities of POSCO (Pohang Iron & Steel Co.) have been developed through acquisition, catch-up, and generation stage. In 1970s standardized operation technologies were acquired based on Japan's technological cooperation. The prime route of technological acquisition was overseas training and operation technologies were articulated by mock and real operation. In 1980s POSCO focused to catch-up advanced technologies through in-house R&D activities. Technological informations were broadly accumulated, task force teams were constructed for important technological tasks, and the scope of technological innovation covered nearly all fields. In 1990s POSCO launched long-term projects based on the large-scale investment and challenged the new fronts of steel technologies. Frontier technologies such as smelting reduction and thin slab casting were early commercialized and new technological concepts were emerged. In conclusion, this article suggests some implications on the development of technological capabilities in Korea.

  • 본 연구논문의 내용은 현재 국내 자동차 업계에서 자동차 배기부품으로 전량 수입되고 있는 STS 409L 스테인레스강을 국산화하기 위한 개발연구에 대한 내용으로서 배기관용 스테인레스강 409L의 제조기술과 관련된 국내외 기술개발 동향과 포항제철 스테인레스 제조설비에 맞는 적정합금성분계와 조업조건을 도출하기 위하여 실험적으로 시험조사하여 품질 제특성을 평가한 연구결과이다. 주요 내용으로서 합금원소가 열연 및 냉연 소둔조업조건에 미치는 영향을 조사하기 위하여, C, N과 Ti 또는 Ti+Nb 원소 첨가를 변화시킨 409L 계열강에 있어서 소둔조업조건에 따른 재결정과 상변태 거동을 조사하엿으며, TIG용접에 의한 용접부의 기계적 특성과 가공성 그리고 고온부식 및 응축수 부식 시험을 통한 내식성 등의 품질 특성 평가를 조사 서술하였다.

  • On the colling mill plant, the qulity of products depends on the ability to follow up the command of roll speed and the magnitude of impact drop. In this paper, the frequency response method is applied to the main motor system of No.1 Plate Mill Plant in POSCO. This paper show the influences when the pseudo random noise as test signal is applied to the system to be measured and presents the proper magnitude of test signal.

  • A new method of predicting effect of rolling parameters on roll pressure, roll force, and power and energy consumptions in hot strip rolling is presented. The method is based on approximate solutions for velocity, strain rate, and stress distributions in the roll gap. The degree of approximation was examined by the finite element solutions. The theoretical predictions were compared with experimental data from hot rolling of steel strip and steel plate.

  • 본 연구는 포항제철 STS 냉연공장의 형상 제어에 관한 것이다 당사의 냉간 압연기는 Sendzimir mill로서 상하 롤(Roll)이 10단씩 구성된 20단 압연기이다. 본 압연기에 의한 575 냉연강판의 형상제어는 현재 조업자의 수동운전으로 구동되고 있으며 구동기는 AS_U Roll 8 개와 Intermediate Roll 2 개의 10 개로 구성되어 있다. 구동기의 특성은 solenoid 형태와 유압식으로서 응답성이 빠르지 뭇하다. 본 연구는 위와 같은 특성을 지닌 냉간 압연기를 가지고 퍼지 제어에 의한 자동제어의 구현에 관한 것이다. 본 연구에 사용된 퍼지 제어기는 형상 강판의 두께 Roll 속도, AS_U Roll과 IMR의 현 위치 강종 강판의 폭, 강판의 장력 등의 입력을 고려하여 제어기의 출력인 AS_U Roll 8 개의 위치 값과 IMR 2 개의 위치 값을 결정한다. 현재 실 프로세서에 적용중이며 형상제어 정도가 양호하다. 본 연구의 효과는 형상제어의 자동화 및 형상 정도 향상을 통한 조업 안정화에 있다.

철판 두께 자동 측정기 개발

  • 철판재의 Roll 압연가공 중에는 균일한 제품의 판재가공을 위해 펄판재의 실시간 측정이 필요하다. 현재, 포항제철 사는 이 공정에서 두께 측정을 위해 방사광 측정기를 사용하고 있다. 이 장비의 출력치에 대한 보정은 여려 종류 두께 의 평판을 정밀하게 가공하고 수동형 측정기와 방사광 측정기로비교하여 실행되고 있다. 이 방법의 문제점은 수동형 측정기의 정밀도로 인해 가공한 시편 자체의 두께를 정확히 평가할 수 없기 때문에 방사광 측정기의 정밀한 보정이 어 렵다는 것이다. 더욱이 이것의 측정 정밀도는 수 .$\mu$ m 이상이어서 서브마이크론 이하의 정밀한 측정을 하기가 어려 운데 현장에서는 서브마이크론 이하의 정밀한 측정을 요구하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 자동 두께 측정기 시스템을 개발 하였다. 이 제품의 목표사양을 측정범위는 100 .approx. 200mm, 측정 두께 범위는 0 .approx. 20mm, 두께 측정 정밀 도는 0.2 .mu. m로 정하였다. 또한, 측정대상은 전도체로 제한하였다. 본 과제에서는 이를 개발하기 위해 측정원리 에 적합한 시스템을 설계 및 제작하고, 측정하는 운영소프트웨어를 개발 및 보정에 관한 연구를 진행하였다.

  • To find a way for establishing work roll initial crown according to roll conditions, computer simutation for predicting plate crown in plate mill is done and effects of roll conditions on plate crown is analyzed. Toll gap rorfile and plate crown are measured to be compared to the calculated values. As a result, regression equation to establish work roll initial crown according to roll conditions such as backup roll diameter, backup roll crown and work roll diameter is obtained.

  • NaOH, $Na_2CO_3, CaO, Ca(OH)_2$ and $CaCO_3$ are widely used counteractives for neoutralizing the waste sulphuric acid produced during the metal surface treatment process and/or the metal refining process. To reduce the tremendous expenses for the neutralization treatment of the waste sulphuric acid, the sludge from calcination plant and the stainless refining dust in POSCO (Pohang Iron & Steel co. Ltd.) was utilized. For the sludge, it will be effective to use calcined and then hydrated sludge in strong acid region (pH<2) and to use the sludge itself in weak acid region (pH>2), The gypsum, the by-product of this treatment, was tested to fit the industrial standard of gypsum, so it is expected that it will solve the lack of gypsum supply. For the stainless refining dust, the phase and the morphology of produced gypsum from waste suiphuric acid neutralization was compared with those from pure sulphuric acid. Because of high reactivity and reaction temperature, $CaSO_4$ non-hydrate was obtained in pure sulphuric acid. But $CaSO_4$ dihydrate was obtained in waste sulphuric acid. It is also judged to be a good material for a counteractive of the waste sulphuric acid.

Optimizing Total Transport Cost Incurred under Specific Port System: With a Case of Managing POSCO-owned Berths (특수항만구조하에서의 물류비용 최적화에 관한 연구 - 포항제철의 원료부두 사례를 중심으로 -)

  • This paper primarily deals with a decision-making for determining the number of voyages in each ship size under a specific port structure in order to minimize the total transport cost consisting of transport cost at sea, queuing cost in port, and inventory cost in yard. As a result of computer simulation using queuing model characterized by inter-arrival time distribution, we were able to find out some combination of voyage numbers of 3 ship-size(50,000-ton, 100,000-ton, and 200,000-ton), where the total transport cost can be minimized under a specific port structure. The simulation model also allows us to figure out any trade-off relationship among sea transport cost, queuing cost in port, and inventory cost in yard. Put it differently, an attempt to reduce the sea transport cost by increasing the number of voyages of the largest ship size, the transport cost incurred in both port and yard is hypothesized to be increased and vice versa. Consequently, Port managers are required to adjust the number of annual number of voyages allocated in each ship size, put into the sea lines for importing raw materials, in order to optimize the transport costs incurred under the specific port system. We may consider a net present value(NPV) model for performing an economic feasibility analysis on port investment project. If a total discounted net benefit, including cost savings, exceeds the initial investment for an additional berth construction, then we accept the port investment project. Otherwise, we reject the proposed port investment plan.

A Heuristic Model for Appropriation of Voyage Allocation under Specific Port Condition Using Regression Analyses - With a Case Analysis on POSCO-owned Port - (휴리스틱 회귀모델을 이용한 특정항만 조건하에서의 선형별 적정 항차배분에 관한 연구 - 포항제철(주) 전용항만 사례를 중심으로-)

  • This paper mainly deals with the appropriation of ship voyage allocation, using a heuristic regression model, in order to reduce total costs incurred in port, yard and at sea under the specific port condition. Because of different behavior of costs incurred in port, yard and at sea, an effort to minimize these costs by adjusting the number of voyages for three ship classes(50,000, 100,000, and 150,000-ton) should be made. For instance, if the port managers attempt to reduce the sea transport cost by increasing the annual allocated number of ship voyages classed 150,000-ton for economies of scale, they have no choice but to suffer a significant increase in queueing cost due to port congestion. To put it differently, there are trade-off relationships among the costs incurred in port, yard, and at sea. We utilized a computer simulation result to perform a couple of regression analyses in order to figure out the appropriate range of allocated number of voyages of each ship class using a heuristic approach. The detailed analytical results will be shown at the main paper. We also suggested a net present value(NPV) model to make a proper investment decision for an additional berth of 200,000-ton class that alleviates port congestion and reduces transport cost incurred both in port and at sea.
