  • 풍력터빈 블레이드에서 발생하는 공력소음원의 위치 특성을 파악하기 위해 마이크로폰 어레이를 사용하여 소음원 풍동시험을 수행하였다. 풍동시험은 KARI 중형 아음속풍동에서 수행되었으며, 소음원의 위치파악을 위해 시간영역 회전체 빔포밍기법을 사용하였다. 기존 시간영역 회전체 빔포밍 기법의 경우 시험데이터 해석에 많은 시간이 소요되나, 본 논문에서는 원통형 좌표계에서 회전각 격자간격과 해석기간 간격 사이의 상관조건을 도입하여 데이터 해석시간을 기존 방법 대비 1/5로 단축하였다. 시험결과 나타난 주파수에 따른 블레이드 공력소음원의 위치 특성은 2kHz 이하 대역에서는 블레이드 반경 80% 부근에 주소음원이 위치하며, 4kHz 이상 대역에서는 블레이드 끝단 부근에 주 소음원이 위치하고 있다.

  • 실시간으로 초고속 이동통신 서비스를 제공하기 위해 5 세대 이동통신 시스템에서는 초광대역(ultra wideband) 시스템 구축에 용이한 3-300GHz 밀리미터파 대역의 도입을 고려하고 있다. 그러나 밀리미터파 대역 신호는 상용 이동통신에서 사용되는 3GHz 이하의 대역에 비하여 전파특성이 열악하다. 이러한 밀리미터파 대역의 효과적인 활용을 위해 5 세대 이동통신 시스템에는 아날로그/디지털 빔포밍 기술을 결합한 하이브리드 빔포밍 기술을 고려하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 하이브리드 빔포밍 기술을 적용한 다중 안테나 상향링크 시스템에서 제로-포싱 (zero-forcing) 구조의 송수신기 설계 기법을 소개한다.

  • Millimeter wave (mm-wave) communication systems provide high data rates owing to the large bandwidths available at mm-wave frequencies. Recently, analogue and digital combined beamforming, namely "hybrid beamforming" has drawn attentions owing to its ability to realize the required link margins in mm-wave systems. Taking into account the radio frequency (RF) hardware limitations, such as the analogue phase shifter gain constraint and the low resolution of the phase controller, we introduce an uplink hybrid beamforming system that includes discrete Fourier transform (DFT) based "fixed" analogue beamforming. We adopt a zero-forcing (ZF) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) equalizer to eliminate the uplink inter-user interferences. Moreover, to improve the sum-rate performances, we propose a transmit beam selection algorithm which makes the uplink effective channels, i.e., the beamformed channels, become near orthogonal. The effectiveness of the proposed beam selection algorithm was verified through numerical simulations.

  • This paper propose a dual-layer beam-forming technique for MIMO-OFDM systems. Dual-layer beam-forming is a capacity enhancing technique to transmit two streams of source data with more than two transmit and receive antennas. Beamforming is a technique to enhance the link-level performances gain using antenna array with the small inter element distance. The proposed scheme can obtain both high capacity of spatial multiplexing and antenna array gain of beamforming for MIMO-OFDM systems. Therefore, it provides better BER performance than the traditional spatial multiplexing and beamforming techniques under the same simulation environment.

  • In this paper, we implemented LED beam forming communication system controlled by stepping motor. ATMega1284 was used as a MCU of main control board which has two main external IO, one is RS232 for connection with PC, the other is PORT for connection with motor driving board. Stepping motor rotated 360 degree when provided 160 clock and its rotation radius was increased by Archimedian Spiral. So LED can provide its light anywhere in the space and its beam forming was controlled by PC connected with RS232 of main control board. The action of beam forming was verified via actual HW/SW implementation.

  • Millimeter wave wireless communication systems, especially those targeting indoor high rate data transfer, have a strong requirement for high quality wireless link. Unfortunately, in this frequency band, the electromagnetic wave has to sustain the high propagation loss caused by the smaller wavelengths. In this scenario, beamforming technique, which enhances the link quality by focusing the radiation power on a direction, becomes one of the most important techniques in millimeter wave band wireless communication. In recent year, there been conducted many research on beamforming to improve the performance of wireless system. In this paper, we evaluate the performance of a simplified codebook-based beamforming scheme which is based on multiple-procedure and three-state beam selection. The simplified scheme significantly reduces beamforming setup time, comparing to the exhaustive searching, two-level searching adopted in IEEE 802.15.3c standard, and also conventional multi-level scheme.

  • In this paper, we consider the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) based transmission incoorperating with beam-switching and space-time coding. Specifically, we consider three configurations; (1) the beamforming technique, (2) the spatial diversity technique and (3) their combination and evaluate the performance in wireless personal area network (WPAN) environment. For the beam-forming technique, we consider the beam-switching which is performed at RF front-end with a pre-defined set of beams and for the space-time coding, we consider the Alamauti scheme with antenna selection. For the combined scheme, we divide the antennas used into two group to generate two independent beams and apply the two-antenna Alamauti scheme over the two beams. For these three configurations, performance is evaluated in terms of the SNR gain.

  • In this paper, a pilot emitting amplify-and-forward relay and its beamforming schemes, OBF (overall beamforming) and RBF (hop-by-hop beamforming), are proposed for two-hop relaying systems. The OBF performs beamforming with respect to a overall channel from a source node (SN) to a destination node (DN) through a relay node (RN), while the proposed RBF performs two independent beamformings: from the SN to the RN and from the RN to the DN. From our analytic and numerical results, it is shown that bit-error-rate (BER) performance of the proposed RBF is better than that of the OBF scheme since the RBF system can estimate channel more proper than the CBF system, which is verified by deriving and comparing the mean square errors of the channel estimation.

  • In this paper, we design and implement SPA (Switched Parasitic Antenna) antenna which can control its beampattern using multiple parasitic elements. By applying SPA antenna to wireless communication system and implementing beamforming scheme, we show that SPA antenna can be used to improve the performance of wireless communication systems. SPA antenna consists of a single active antenna and multiple parasitic elements around the active one, and can control its beampattern by switching the parasitic elements. Using this characteristic of the SPA antenna, it is possible to impelemtent beamforming technique with single RF chain, which enables to design low cost, low complexity and low power wireless communication systems. In order to verify the beamforming gain, we measure and analyze the system level performance, such as SNR, PER, and throughput.
