  • This study analysed compressive strength and the expansion characteristic to utilize a high volume mineral admixture mortar for a aerated mortar and a plastering mortar. In this experiment, the result shows that the compressive strength gain was satisfactory in case that WR was replaced within 5%. Also, the difference between WR1 and WR was insignificant. It shows that the drying shringkage properties at large was showed being satisfactory generally compared with Plain when WR was replaced, but the effect was not significant.

  • In this research, the possibility of wasted refractory powder pulverized from refractory block as an expansive admixture and additional alkaline stimulant for class two and three blast furnace slag cements (BSC) was assessed with its high content of free CaO or free MgO. As the replacement ratios of wasted refractory powder and blast furnace slag were increased, flow and air content were decreased, while unit volume weight was increased under same conditions. Compressive strength of mortar was increased with increased replacement ratio of wasted refractory powder, especially, in the case of class three BSC, the highest compressive strength was obtained when wasted refractory powder was replaced 10 %.

  • Recently amongst Korea's construction companies there has been heightened interest in environment load reduction and resource recycling. As a result, the construction industry is examining recycled materials alternative to cement and blast-furnace slag (BS henceforth) cement, such as waste refractories and desulfurized plaster. This study analyzes the liquidity and intensity characteristics of mortar according to changes in replacement ratios of waste refractories and desulfurized plaster, used as industry by-products in mortar environments that use BS 3-type cements and circulated fine aggregate. As a result, the greater the increase in replacement ratios of desulfurized plaster, the greater the increase in liquidity and air quantity, as well as compression strength.

  • A novel approach is presented to address issues associated with the use of strong acidic solutions for the leaching of magnesium oxide (MgO) from spent magnesia-carbon refractories. An ultrasonic flotation and separation process is employed, with a mildly acidic solvent, acetic acid, used to selectively chelate MgO from the spent refractories. When using 2 M acetic acid as a solvent, the recovery of the graphite exhibited 99.7 % with high purity of 72.7 %, showing a significant improvement compared to using water as the solvent. Furthermore, the technology presented in this study offers a method for producing magnesium acetate through the reaction of MgO in spent refractory with acetic acid, providing a means for the purification and separation of graphite.

  • The aim of the research is providing the application method of recycled materials to manufacture the low costed eco-friend block at currently operated concrete block plant. In this research, based on the previous research results on three types of slag cement with illite, desulfurized gypsum, and wasted refractory products, the actual block product was manufactured by the currently operated plant facility and evaluated their properties to suggest the optimal proportions. As an experimental results, in aspect of compressive strength, absorption ratio, freezing resistance, and pH, type III slag incorporating 5% desulfurized gypsum with 1% replaced illite as an aggregate could be suggested as am optimal proportion. In additionally, considering the high cost of the illite, it can be considered as an optimal proportion that type III slag incorporating 5% desulfurized gypsum for binder.

  • The reason for permanent shrinking of recycled castable refractories from alumino-silicate waste refractories was investigated and the method to control shrinking is suggested in order to increase maximum service termperature. The porosity of castable refractories with waste material as large aggregate decreases after heat treatment because the porosity of waste refractories is greater than the of green material, in which CaO around large aggregate penetrates into aggregate and promotes liquid phase sintering. The shrinking of recycled castable refractories resulted in the decrease in porosity can be controled by addition of green kaolin chamotte as large aggregate. The shrinking of recycled castable refractories caused by the differences in densities of mineral phases before and after heat treatment can be controled by addition of kyanite. The use of green kaolin chamotte and kyanite increases the service temperature of recycled castable refractories up to 1500$^{\circ}C$.

  • This study has analyzed the engineering characteristics of resource-cycling mortar according to the variation of fine aggregate type using illite with high development potentials by setting the goal as developing eco-friendly construction materials. As a result, while flow has increased if recycled fine aggregate and waste refractory are used separately or mixing them adequately in case of flow and compressive strength, the flow had somewhat declined followed by illite replacement. However, the possibility of such usage is determined to be adequate if used by mixing illite, recycled fine aggregate and waste refractory properly due to the dry shrinkage effect.

  • The objective of this paper is to investigate the effect of waste refractory powder(WRP) and desulfurization gypsum(FGD) as activators on the flow properties and the strength development of high volume blast furnace slag mortar incorporating illite(BSM) having adsorption and deodorization. To fabricate the BSMs with 60% of W/B, blast furnace slag are incorporated with 45% and 65%, respectively. WRP and FGD are substituted from 5 to 10%. Test results indicate that the flow is decreased with increase of WRP and FGD, while increase of WRP and FGD enhance the compressive strength due to accelerated reaction of blast furnace slag, The use of illite results in a decrease of compressive strength. pH has increasing tendency until 7days, while it has reduction. In this paper, optimal dosages of WRP and FGD are believed to be around 5% each.
