Tributyltin compounds have been increasingly used in the form of plastic stabilizers, catalytic agents, industrial agricultural biocides, antifouling paint, and pesticides. Among these organotin compounds, large amounts of tributyltin(TBT) and triphenyltin(TPT) have been used as antifouling agents because they have a superior ability to prevent marine organism from being encrusted on ship bottoms and in culturing nets. Environmental pollution by these organotin compounds in the aquatic environment were undertaken. The international maritime Organization's established a provisional tolerable daily intake(TDI) of 1.6[micro]g TBTO/kg/ B.W. The Food and Agiculture Organization (of the United Nations)/world Health Organization's (FAO/WHO) proposed a TDI of 0.5ug TPT/kg BW/d. This study is conducted monitoring of TBT on seafoods in Korea and risk assessment for exposure on TBT in seafoods. Total hazard index(using Reference Dose : 0.3 ug TBTO/kg B.W/day) of intake exposure on seafoods is 0.04 as the 50th percentile, 0.08 as the 95th percentile. This value is estimated by Monte-Carlo simulation using Crystal Ball(Decisioneering Co., 2001).

The purpose of this study was to investigate the possibility of Meles meles oil as an functional resource. To assess the effects of Meles meles oil in 25 non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (DM) persons, we examined changes of fat intake level, hematological and chemical variables, serum DM indices and lipid contents during the Meles meles oil supplementation. Polyunsaturated fatty acid and $\omega$3 fatty acid intake were significantly increased by Meles meles oil intakes. The levels of LDL-cholesterol and triglyceride were significantly decreased while HDL-cholesterol was significantly increased. Iron status improved during Meles meles oil intakes. These results show that modest dose of Meles meles oil supplementation can decrease serum triglyceride, cholesterol level without any changes in blood glucose level in NIDDM patients. These results indicated that Meles meles oil diet is effective therapeutic regimen for the control of metabolic derangements in diabetes mellitus. Also, these results imply that Meles meles oil can be used as possible food resources and functional food materials. However, large amounts of Meles meles oil should be used cautiously in NIDDM patients.
A growth experiment of the Israeli strain of common carp (Cyprinus carpio) under varying dissolved oxygen levels in the recirculating water system was conducted at the Fish Culture Experiment Station of the National Fisheries University of Pusan from August 28, 1985 to September 17, 1985. Five tanks with a capacity of $5m^3$ of water each were used under the same condition of water parameters except for dissolved oxygen levels which were designed to maintain at 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, 3.5 and 4.0 mg/l ranges. The weight of fish in the beginning was about 300g and each tank was stocked with 200kg of fish. DO level of 3.5mg/l was found to be the best level with a feed coefficient of 1.57 and a daily growth rate of $1.411\%$ whereas 4.mg/l showed a slightly decreased performance of 1.63 and $1.365\%$ respectively. The amounts of feed consumed in 3.5 and 4.0mg/l DO levels were almost the same. Below 3.0mg/l DO levels the growth rate markedly decreased. Furthermore, in 2.0 and 2.5 mg/l groups, the fish did not accept feed vigorously and after feeding the fish usually concentrated around the inflow point showing oxygen deficiency response, The experiment indicates that the DO range of 3.5 to 4.0mg/l is the optimum level for the best growth at $27.5^{\circ}C$. DO concentration above these levels is considered a waste of energy resulting in uneconomical performance, and on the other hand, below these levels, the carp certainly shows a poor growth performance.

The purpose of this study was to investigate dietary habits and health-related behaviors in elderly people aged over 85 years residing in Namhae-gun Kyungnam. The subject group of this study was composed of 24 males and 76 females, the average age being 88.9$\pm$4.0 years old. The mean age of their parents' death were 67.3$\pm$15.9 years for the father and 68.1$\pm$16.6 years for the mother. Most of the subjects had a regular meal pattern consuming three meals a day, and the female (89.5%) had more regular meals than the male (66.7%). Most of the subjects showed to have no taboo foods (77.1%) and health foods or supplements (90.5%). The rates of alcohol drinking and smoking showed to be 46.8% and 31.1%, respectively, and the quantities of them were a little. Of the subjects, 65.6% spend 6∼8 hours for sleeping and 57.6% spend 4∼5 hours for activity. Most of the subjects recognized to be healthy (88.7%) and happy (62.7%).
Total mercury and methylmercury concentrations were determined in 15 commonly consumed aquatic food species using total mercury analyzer and gas chromatography with electron capture detector. The mean total mercury and methylmercury concentrations (mg/kg) were 0.088 and 0.034 in mackerel, 0.061 and 0.016 in hair tail, 0.030 and 0.005 in yellow croaker, 0.032 and 0.008 in Alaska pollock, 0.059 and 0.023 in eastern catfish, 0.110 and 0.045 in snakehead, 0.030 and 0.011 in Japanese common squid, 0.026 and 0.009 in common octopus, 0.035 and 0.008 in swimming crab, 0.009 and not detected (ND) in oyster, 0.011 and ND in shortneck clam, 0.008 and ND in mussel, 0.018 and ND in sea mustard, 0.007 and ND in nori, and 0.019 and ND in sea tangle, respectively. The total weekly dietary intakes of total mercury and methylmercury were estimated, respectively, using food consumption data from diet surveys and the concentrations of total mercury and methylmercury from this study. They were $0.178\;{\mu}g/kg$ body weight (b.w.)/week (3.57% of provisional tolerable weekly intake (PTWI)) and $0.052\;{\mu}g/kg$ b.w./week (3.34% of PTWI) respectively, and all were within their respective PTWI set by the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA). Therefore, considering that the main contributor to mercury intake in the diet is aquatic foods and that the 15 aquatic food species examined in this study are highly consumed, it is concluded that the mercury levels in the foods measured in this study do not present a concern for consumer health.
We investigated the relationship between depression, suicide risk, and related nutrient intakes in 50-60 year old Korean osteoarthritis patients. In the $6^{th}$ National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, 4,112 people who have been diagnosed with osteoarthritis by a doctor were analysed. Anxiety and depression level, pain and discomport level, depressive mood and suicidal ideation were significantly higher in osteoarthritis group compared to the non-osteoarthritis group(p<0.05). Dietary intake of energy, protein, n-3 and n-6 fatty acids, calcium, phosphate, thiamin, riboflavin, and niacin were significantly higher in the normal group compared with all the osteoarthritis, depression and suicidal ideation groups(p<0.05). The presented convergence strategy would be applied for emotional health and health care improvement of osteoarthritis patients.
Two-month feeding experiment was conducted to investigate the optimum dietary protein level and energy to protein ratio in fat cod (Hexagrammos otakii Jordan et STARKS). The fish averaging 29 g were fed with one of the isocaloric diets containing 30, 40, 50 or $60\%$ of protein, or with one of the isoproteic diets containing 9, 10, 11 or 12 of available energy/protein (E/P) ratio. Weight gain and feed efficiency increased significantly with dietary protein level up to $50\%$, then decreased with $60\%$ protein diet (P<0.05). Daily protein intake increased significantly with dietary protein level, whereas protein efficiency ratio decreased with dietary protein level (P<0.05). Second order polynomial regression analyses of percent weight gain and daily protein intake may indicate that the adequate dietary protein level is $45\%$ and daily protein requirement per 100g fish is 1.5g for maximal growth. Weight gain, feed efficiency and protein efficiency from fish led the diet containing 12 of E/P ratio were significantly higher than those from fish fed the other diets (P<0.05). Daily feed or protein intake from fish fed the diet containing 12 of E/P ratio was significantly lower than those from fish fed the other diets (P<0.05). Daily lipid intake increased significantly with dietary E/P ratio (P<0.05).
Red ginseng is manufactured as a health-functional food and is also present in various food types and in different product forms. However, there is currently no standardized regulation of ginsenoside content in foods containing red ginseng. In the present study, we analyzed the ginsenoside content of 66 red ginseng-containing foods and 35 health-functional foods collected online and directly from the market. The ginsenoside content was assessed using liquid chromatography (LC) and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) methods. The ginsenoside content of the various food types ranged 0.0 (not detected)-71.567 mg per daily intake of foods containing red ginseng. Sugar-preserved foods had the highest ginsenoside content, followed by solid teas, liquid teas, and red ginseng beverages. For health-functional foods, the ginsenoside content ranged 3.4-58.5 mg per daily intake, with levels ranging 83-607% of the indicated amounts. All values met the established standards. Upon comparing red ginseng health-functional foods and red ginseng-containing foods, the average ginsenoside content was determined to be 18.21 and 8.79 mg, respectively, thus being nearly twice as high in health-functional foods. However, there was a minimal difference between the ginsenoside content of red and black ginseng, with values of 11.84 and 12.63 mg, respectively. These findings provide insights on the variations in ginsenoside content of red and black ginseng in various food forms. This information is expected to be valuable for future regulations and consumer choice of products containing red ginseng.

Transport properties of 2DEG at AlGaAs/GaAs interface such as average electron energy, flight distance, each valley occupancy ratio, average electron velocity for various fields are investigated by MONTE-CARLO method. As the electric field increases, more electrons transit drastically from (000) valley to (000) upper valley. This phenomenon shows the nonstationary effect such as velocity overshoot. The duration of the transient decreases from about 1.4 psec for electric field E = 7KV/cm to about 0.7 psec for 12KV/cm. The average electron velocity during transient transport in 2DEG is about 8 times the steady-state velocity for E = 12KV/cm at room temperature. In comparison with bulk GaAs the peak velocity in the 2DEG is higher than that in even pure bulk GaAs at electric field E = 7 KV/cm. On the basis of the fact that the electrons in the 2DEG have larger peak velocity and shorter transient time of velocity than those in the bulk GaAs, it is suggested that the device with 2DEG may obtain higher mobility than that with bulk GaAs.

This study was conducted to investigate the influence of laminaran from Eisenia bicyclis on serum lipid composition of rats fed high fat and cholesterol diets. Fourty male Sprague-Dawley rats weighing $70{\pm}2.5g$ of 4 weeks old were fed experimental diets for 6 weeks with high fat diet consisting of basal diet plus cholesterol (1%) and lard (10%) for the inducement of hyperlipidemia. The effect of laminaran supplements via drinking waters on serum lipid composition of rat were investigated for 5 weeks by administration of experimental diet group fed basal diet only as normal group, control group fed high fat diet, LL group fed high fat diet plus 0.25% laminaran containing water, and LH group fed high fat diet plus 0.5% laminaran containing water, respectively. As a results of experiments, it was found that LL and LH groups showed significant (p<0.05) decrease in body weight gain and liver weight as compared with control and it may caused by decreased FER. The weight of cecum and adipose tissue (EFP) of LL group showed a significantly (p<0.05) decreased patterns compared with control. It was also found that LL and LH diet groups affects the intestinal length and transit time of rat as significantly (p<0.05) increased in length of intestine and decreased in transit time. In addition, LL and LH diet groups showed a dramatic decrease in triglyceride, total and LDL-cholesterol, and significant increase in HDL-cholesterol compared with control diet group, by which results in decreased in AI. These results indicate that crude laminaran from Eisenia bicyclis has a strong hyperlipidemic and hypercholesterolemic activities in rat fed high fat and cholesterol diet.
