Fabrication and Output Characteristics of an (18+1)×1 Polarization-maintaining Pump and Signal Combiner for a High-power Fiber Laser (고출력 광섬유 레이저용 (18+1)×1 편광유지 펌프 및 신호광 결합기 제작 및 출력 특성)

  • In this paper a pump combiner, a key component of a high-power fiber laser, was fabricated, and its output characteristics measured using a high-power performance measuring instrument. The $(18+1){\times}1$ pump combiner consists of an optical-fiber bundle of one signal fiber and 18 pump fibers, an output optical fiber, and housing. The signal and output fibers were fabricated using polarization-maintaining optical fiber. By measuring the loss of signal light along the tapering length of the optical-fiber bundle, the tapering length was optimized to 18 mm. Signal-light insertion loss, pump-light transmittance, and polarization extinction ratio of the fabricated $(18+1){\times}1$ pump combiner were measured as 6.5%, 98.07%, and 18.0 dB respectively. The temperature distribution of the pump combiner, at a high power of 2 kW using 18 pump laser diodes, was measured and analyzed using a thermal-imaging camera.

Fabrication of All-fiber 7x1 Pump Combiner Based on a Fiber Chip for High Power Fiber Lasers (고출력 광섬유 레이저를 위한 광섬유 칩 기반 All-fiber 7x1 펌프 광 결합기 제작)

  • In this paper, we report measured results for an all-fiber $7{\times}1$ pump combiner based on an optical fiber chip for high-power fiber lasers. An optical-fiber chip was fabricated by etching a fiber, having core and cladding diameters of 20 and $400{\mu}m$, in the longitudinal direction. To both ends of the etched chip, we spliced input and output fibers. First, we tied together seven optical fibers, having core and cladding diameters of 105 and $125{\mu}m$ respectively, in a cylindrical bundle and spliced them to the $375-{\mu}m$ end of the optical-fiber chip. Then, we attached an output DCF with core and cladding diameters of 25 and $250{\mu}m$ to the $250-{\mu}m$ end of the optical-fiber chip. Finally, the fabricated $7{\times}1$ pump combiner showed an average optical coupling efficiency of about 90.2% per port. This chip-based pump combiner may replace conventional pump combiners by massive production of fiber chips.

  • 본 논문에서는 제안하는 컨버터와 인버터의 회로를 통합하여 다중레벨의 출력 전압과 커패시터의 전압 균등화 동작을 부스트와 차지펌프 회로를 이용하여 고효율의 회로를 구성하였다. 또한 결합 인덕터를 사용함으로써 누설인덕턴스를 최소화 할 뿐만 아니라 추가적인 전하균등화 회로를 추가하지 않음으로 써 가격에서도 유리함을 제공한다. 부스트-차지펌프회로와 멀티레벨 인버터가 결합된 새로운 구조를 제안하고 이를 수식적으로 정리하고 시뮬레이션과 실제 하드웨어를 통하여 검증하였다.

Improvement of the Signal-to-Noise Ratio of Photorefractive Joint Transform Correlator using Characteristics of $BaTiO_3$ ($BaTiO_3$의 특성을 이용한 광굴절 결합 변환 상관기의 신호 대 잡음비 개선)

  • In the conventional photorefractive joint transform correlator(PRJTC), the intensity ration of input signal-to-pump beam should be large enough to saturate two-beam coupling transfer function to obtain a desired correlation result. As a result, the signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) of correlation result is decreased in a noisy input image. In this paper, we propose the improved method for increasing the SNR of the PRJTC by using the characteristics of BaTiO$_3$. We stop the energy transfer saturating by low intensity ratio of input beam and realize a short length of effective interaction in BaTiO$_3$ by making large incident angle of the signal beam. So the gain in high frequency area is decreased and the gain in low frequency area comes up to the saturation gain of the beam coupling transfer function. Therefore the SNR is improved in noisy input image and the PRJTC can be easily realized by low intensity ratio of input beam.

  • SBN, BSKNN KNSBN 등의 tungsten-bronze 계열에 속하는 광굴절 결정은 짧은 파장에서 좋은 감광도와 빠른 응답시간을 갖는다. 이중에서도 KNSBN 결정은 큰 크기의 결정 성장 및 도핑이 용이하고 광굴절 결정에서 중요한 특성 중 하나인 열 안정성(thermal stability)이 좋기 때문에 빠른 응답특성이 요구되는 응용분야에서 촉망받는 매질이다. 본 논문에서는 광정보저장, 광정보처리, 광컴퓨터, 광통신과 같은 다양한 분야에서 응용가능성을 가지는 Cu가 0.04wt.%도핑된 5mm$\times$5mm$\times$5mm 크기의 KNSBN 결정을 이용한 광신호의 증폭기술에 대하여 연구하였다. 먼저 Cu-KNSNB 결정의 2광파 결합 특성을 분석하기 위하여, 기록 파장에 따른 지수이득계수의 외부입사각의존성, 최대 지수이득계수를 나타내는 외부입사각에서 입사빔의 세기비에 따른 2광파 결합 이득을 측정하였다. 또한, 632.8nm파장 영역에서 기록 및 삭제시간 상수, 회절 효율의 입사빔 세기비 의존성을 측정하였다. 그리고, 음향-광학 변조기(AOM: acousto-optic modulator)에 의해 진폭 변조된 신호빔을 이용하여 광신호 증폭특성을 분석하고 그 결과를 제시하였다. 이때 두 빔의 입사각은 최대 지수이득계수를 나타내는 입사반각 12$^{\circ}$로 고정하고, 감쇄기를 이용하여 신호빔의 세기를 조절하면서 신호빔의 차동이득을 측정하였다. 투과된 신호빔은 같은 주파수에서 차동 이득(diffrerential gain)을 보였으며, 이는 moving grating과 시간-변조된 신호빔(또는 펌프빔)사이의 새로운 상호작용은 광굴절 결정의 시간 적분 특성에 의한 것이다. (중략) 경우는 상온에서 펌프 펄스의 유지시간이 0.5% 인 경우 레이저가 동작하는 것을 보여주었다. 이는 구조내에서 열전도가 문제가 된다는 것을 의미하는데 위아래가 공기로 둘러 싸여 있어 발생한 열이 가는 유전체 네트웍을 통해서만 전달 될 수 있기 때문이다. (중략)$^4$A$_2$에 의한 nophonon line R$_1$, R$_2$(680.4, 678.5 nm) 및 $^2$T$_1$$\longrightarrow$$^4$A$_2$(655.7, 649.3, 645.2 nm)의 형광방출 스펙트럼을 얻었으며, 형광수명은 0.264 ms로 조사되었다. 제조된 레이저 발진봉은 직경 6.3 m, 길이 45 nm이었다.\pm$0.06kHz Ge $F_4$; -1.84$\pm$0.04kHz$0.04kHz/TEX>0.04kHz 모국어 및 관련 외국어의 음운규칙만 알면 어느 학습대상 외국어에라도 적용할 수 있는 보편성을 지니는 것으로 사료된다.없다. 그렇다면 겹의문사를 [-wh]의리를 지 닌 의문사의 병렬로 분석할 수 없다. 예를 들어 누구누구를 [주구-이-ν가] [누구누구-이- ν가]로부터 생성되었다고 볼 수 없다. 그러므로 [-wh] 겹의문사는 복수 의미를 지닐 수 없 다. 그러면 단수 의미는 어떻게 생성되는가\ulcorner 본 논문에서는 표면적 형태에도 불구하고 [-wh]의미의 겹의문사는 병렬적 관계의 합성어가 아니라 내부구조를 지니지 않은 단순한 단어(minimal $X^{0}$ elements)로 가정한다.

A Study of the Fiber Fuse in Single-mode 2-kW-class High-power Fiber Amplifiers (단일 모드 2 kW급 고출력 광섬유 증폭기 내의 광섬유 용융 현상에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we experimentally investigate the fiber fuse in single-mode 2-kW-class high-power fiber amplifiers, depending on the cooling method at the splicing point. We measured the temperature of the splicing point between the pump-signal combiner and gain fiber as a function of laser output power. The temperature of the splicing point increased from 20 to 32℃ with a slope of 0.01℃/W, up to 1.2 kW of laser output power. At higher powers the temperature of the splicing point increased dramatically, with a slope of 0.08℃/W. After that, the fiber amplifier was destroyed during operation at 1.96 kW of output power by fiber fuse. The bullet shape, a common feature of fiber fuse, was observed in the damaged passive fiber core of the pump-signal combiner. Later, we adopted an improved water-cooled cold plate to increase the cooling efficiency at the splicing point, and investigated the laser output power. The temperature at the splicing point was 35.8℃ with a temperature-rise slope of 0.007℃/W at the maximum output power of 2.05 kW. The beam quality M2 was measured to be less than 1.3, and the output beam's profile was a stable Gaussian shape. Finally, neither fiber fuse nor mode instability was observed in the fiber amplifier at the maximum output power of 2.05 kW.

Dry Etching of GaAs and AlGaAs in Diffuion Pump-Based Capacitively Coupled BCl3 Plasmas (확산펌프 기반의 BCl3 축전결합 플라즈마를 이용한 GaAs와 AlGaAs의 건식 식각)

  • We report the etch characteristics of GaAs and AlGaAs in the diffusion pump-based capacitively coupled $BCl_3$ plasma. Process variables were chamber pressure ($50{\sim}180$ mTorr), CCP power ($50{\sim}200\;W$) and $BCl_3$ gas flow rate ($2.5{\sim}10$ sccm). Surface profilometry was used for etch rate and surface roughness measurement after etching. Scanning electron microscopy was used to analyze the etched sidewall and surface morphology. Optical emission spectroscopy was used in order to characterize the emission peaks of the $BCl_3$ plasma during etching. We have achieved $0.25{\mu}m$/min of GaAs etch rate with only 5 sccm $BCl_3$ flow rate when the chamber pressure was in the range of 50{\sim}130 mTorr. The etch rates of AlGaAs were a little lower than those of GaAs at the conditions. However, the etch rates of GaAs and AlGaAs decreased significantly when the chamber pressure increased to 180 mTorr. GaAs and AlGaAs were not etched with 50 W CCP power. With $100{\sim}200\;W$ CCP power, etch rates of the materials increased over $0.3{\mu}m$/min. It was found that the etch rates of GaAs and AlGaAs were not always proportional to the increase of CCP power. We also found the interesting result that AlGaAs did not etched at 2.5 sccm $BCl_3$ flow rate at 75 mTorr and 100 W CCP power even though it was etched fast like GaAs with more $BCl_3$ gas flow rates. By contrast, GaAs was etched at ${{\sim}}0.3{\mu}m$/min at the 2.5 sccm $BCl_3$ flow rate condition. A broad molecular peak was noticed in the range of $500{\sim}700\;mm$ wavelength during the $BCl_3$ plasma etching. SEM photos showed that 10 sccm $BCl_3$ plama produced more undercutting on GaAs sidewall than 5 sccm $BCl_3$ plasma.
