Designing Knitwear with Aran Motives - In Search of Spatial Continuity Theory with Its Application - (아란모티프를 응용한 니트웨어 디자인 - 공간적 연속성 이론을 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the meaning and depth of traditional knitwears, and to develop knitwear designs by using Aran motif, one of major motifs of traditional knitwears and on the basis of the 'continuance' theory of Henri Bergson and Jill Deleuze. Connectivity, the sense of space and deconstructive fluidity-basic concepts of the continuance theory-are felt in such forms as pleats, origami, and air pumping systems, blob and twisting used in the modem fashion. The motif of Aran knitwear which has a long historical tradition can be reinterpreted in terms of those concepts of the continuance theory. In this study, we designed five pieces of knitwear while applying cable motif, an important motif of Aran knitwear, and the concepts of the continuance theory to them. This study will make a contribution to the designing of knit wears through reinterpretation of a traditional motif in terms of a modem philosophical thought.

  • Semantic interpretation of image is incomplete without some mechanism for understanding semantic content that is not directly visible. For this reason, human assisted content-annotation through natural language is an attachment of textual description to image. However, keyword-based retrieval is in the level of syntactic pattern matching. In other words, dissimilarity computation among terms is usually done by using string matching not concept matching. In this paper, we propose a method for computerized semantic similarity calculation In WordNet space. We consider the edge, depth, link type and density as well as existence of common ancestors. Also, we have introduced method that applied similarity measurement on semantic image retrieval. To combine wi#h the low level features, we use the spatial color distribution model. When tested on a image set of Microsoft's 'Design Gallery Line', proposed method outperforms other approach.

  • In case of sketching a conceptual model in 3D space, it's not easy for designer to recognize the depth cue accurately and to draw a model correctly in short time. In this paper, multi-strokes based sketch is adopted not only to reduce the error of input point but to substantiate the shape o) the conceptual design effectively. The designer can see the drawing result immediately after stroking some curves. The shape can also be modified by stroking curves repeatedly and be confirmed the modified shape in real time. However, the multi-strokes based sketch needs to manage the great amount of input data. Therefore, the drawing space is divided into the limited spatial cubical grids and the movable infernal vertex in each spatial grid is implemented and used to define the surface by the multi-strokes. We implemented the spatial sketching system which allows the concept designer's intention to 3D model data efficiently.

  • In this thesis, we develop a vision based hand motion recognition system using a camera with two rotational motors. Existing systems were implemented using a range camera or multiple cameras and have a limited working area. In contrast, we use an uncalibrated camera and get more wide working area by pan-tilt motion. Given an image sequence provided by the pan-tilt camera, color and pattern information are integrated into a tracking system in order to find the 2D position and direction of the hand. With these pose information, we estimate 3D motion plane on which the gesture motion trajectory from approximately forms. The 3D trajectory of the moving finger tip is projected into the motion plane, so that the resolving power of the linear gesture patterns is enhanced. We have tested the proposed approach in terms of the accuracy of trace angle and the dimension of the working volume.

  • In order to fabricate through-Si-vias for thermal vias by using wet etching process, anisotropic etching behavior of Si substrate was investigated as functions of concentration and temperature of TMAH solution in this study. The etching rate of 5 wt%, 10 wt%, and 25 wt% TMAH solutions, of which temperature was maintained at $80^{\circ}C$, was $0.76{\mu}m/min$, $0.75{\mu}m/min$, and $0.30{\mu}m/min$, respectively. With changing the temperature of 10 wt% TMAH solution to $20^{\circ}C$ and $50^{\circ}C$, the etching rate was reduced to $0.067{\mu}m/min$ and $0.233{\mu}m/min$, respectively. Through-Si-vias of $500{\mu}m$-depth could be fabricated by etching a Si substrate for 5 hours in 10 wt% TMAH solution at $80^{\circ}C$ after forming same via-pattern on each side of the Si substrate.

  • This study aims to develop sleeve pattern of tailored jacket which shows seamlessly beauty of females in their twenties who have relatively smaller change of body compared people of other ages and has outstanding functional operation. So we selected a pattern of manufacturer who received highest score after evaluating wearing condition of three types of jacket in the industry, whose targets are career women in their twenties and then tested its appearance and functional operation of 6 experimental jackets with armhole depth of B/4 and B/4-1(cm) along with sleeve cap height of A.H/3, A.H/3+1, A.H/3+2. As a result, the pattern which has good result of external appearance evaluation were sleeve with armhole depth of B/4-1 and sleeve cap height of A.H/3+2 as well as sleeve with armhole depth of B/4-1 and sleeve cap height of A.H/3+1. The pattern of good result for movement adaptation were sleeve with armhole depth of B/4-1 and sleeve cap height of A.H/3 as well as sleeve with armhole depth of B/4 and sleeve cap height of A.H/3. So we could find that the larger is the armhole depth and height of sleeve, the better influence on adaptability of jacket it makes and that the smaller is the armhole depth and height of sleeve, the better influence on movement adaptability of jacket it makes. It has been proved that armhole depth of tailored jacket of females in their twenties doesn't affect significantly on its appearance when designing it but it makes good influence on movement adaptability when experimental clothing has armhole depth of B/4-1and that sleeve cap height of A.H/3 that is 1cm shorter than A.H/3+1 which is used in industry makes good influence on appearance and functional operation.

A Study on the Classification of Steam Generator Tube Defects Using an Improved Feature Extraction (개선된 특징 추출을 이용한 원전SG 세관 결함 패턴 분류에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we study the classification of steam generator tube defects using an improved feature extraction. We consider 4 axisymmetric defect patterns of tube: I-In type, I-Out type, V-In type, and V-Out type. Through numerical analysis program based on finite element modeling, 400 ECT signals are generated by varying width and depth of each defect type. From those generated ECT signals, we propose new feature vectors that include an angle between the two points where the Maximum impedance and half the Maximum impedance, and angles between Maximum impedance point and 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% of Maximum impedance points. Also, multi-layer perceptron with one hidden layer is used to classify the defect patterns. Through the computer simulation study, it is shown that the proposed method achieves an improved defect classification performance in terms of Maximum Error and mean square Error.

  • The pile-cap connection part which transfers foundation loads through pile body is critical element regarding flexural and shear force because the change of area, stress, and stiffness occurs in the this region suddenly. The purpose of this study is to investigate the structural behavior of pile-cap connection dependent on fabrication methods using conventional PHC pile and composite PHC pile. A series of test under cyclic lateral load was performed and the connection behavior was discussed. From the test results, it was found that the initial rotational stiffness of pile-cap connection was affected by the length of pile-head inserted in footing and the location of longitudinal reinforcing bars. The types of pile and location of longitudinal reinforcing bars governed the behavior of pile-cap connection regarding load-carrying capacity, ductility, and energy dissipation.

  • In this paper, we was designed three-dimensional face recognition algorithm using polynomial based RBFNNs and proposed method to calculate the recognition performance. In case of two-dimensional face recognition, the recognition performance is reduced by the external environment like facial pose and lighting. In order to compensate for these shortcomings, we perform face recognition by obtaining three-dimensional images. obtain face image using three-dimension scanner before the face recognition and obtain the front facial form using pose-compensation. And the depth value of the face is extracting using Point Signature method. The extracted data as high-dimensional data may cause problems in accompany the training and recognition. so use dimension reduction data using PCA algorithm. accompany parameter optimization using optimization algorithm for effective training. Each recognition performance confirm using PSO, DE, GA algorithm.

Variation of Microbial Community Along Depth in Paddy and Upland Field (논과 밭 토양에서 토층간 미생물 군집의 차이)

  • We examined the vertical distribution of specific microbial groups and the patterns of microbial community structure within the soil profile using phospholipid fatty acid (PLFA). Samples were collected from the soil surface down to 15 cm in depth from paddy and upland fields located in Daegu, Korea. The two fields have been fertilized with only chemical fertilizers N, P, K for 33 years. Principal component analysis of the PLFA signatures indicated that the composition of the soil microbial communities changed significantly with the cultivation practices and soil depth, suggesting that cultivation practices of paddy and upland fields had more significant influence on soil microbial community than the soil depth did. The soil microbial communities changed more drastically with soil depth in upland field than in paddy field, with making thicker soil surface in paddy field in terms of soil microbial community. The ratios of cyclopropyl/monoenoic precursors and total saturated/total monounsaturated fatty acids increased with soil depth, suggesting that the deeper soil horizons are more carbon-limited and anaerobic than surface soil. The community analysis using PLFAs as biomarkers revealed that Gram-positive bacteria and actinomycetes tended to increase in proportional abundance with increasing soil depth, while the abundance of Gram-negative bacteria and fungi were highest at the soil surface and substantially lower in the subsurface.
