  • In this paper, an arm motion sensing system using potentiometer is developed. Most motion sensing systems use optical method for the quality of motion data. The optical method needs much cost for manufacturing capture system and takes much time for correcting the captured data. And mechanical method entails relativity low cost, but it uses the wires and takes much time for correcting the data like the optical method. For solving the problems, in this paper, an arm motion sensing system is newly developed using low cost potentiometer and based on the suggested simple calculation method for the joint angles and the angular velocities. For the verification of the performance of the developed system, practical experiments were executed using real human arm motion and a robot arm. The experimental results showed that the motion of the robot arm controlled by the output of the developed motion sensing system is much similar with the motion of human arm.

  • The system for controlling the robotic arm through the foot motion detection was implemented for the disabled who not free to use of the arm. In order to get an image on foot movement, two cameras were setup in front of both foot. After defining multiple regions of interest by using LabView-based Vision Assistant from acquired images, we could detect foot movement based on left/right and up/down edge detection within the left/right image area. After transferring control data which was obtained according to left/right and up/down edge detection numbers from two foot images of left/right sides through serial communication, control system was implemented to control 6-joint robotic arm into up/down and left/right direction by foot. As a result of experiment, we was able to get within 0.5 second reaction time and operational recognition rate of more 88%.

  • Due to recently advanced electrical devices, human can access computer network regardless of working location or time restriction. However, currently widely used mouse, joystick, and trackball input system are not easy to carry and they bound user hands exclusively within working space. Those make user inconvenient in Ubiquitous environments.. In this paper, we propose multiple dimension human motion detection system based on wireless sensor networks. It is a portable input device and provides easy installation process and unbinds user hands during input processing stages. Our implemented system is comprised of three components. One is input unit that senses user motions and transmits collected data to receiver. Second is receiver that conveys the received data to application, which runs on server computer. Third is application that performs command operations according to received data. Experiments shows that proposed system accurately detect the characteristics of user arm motions and fully support corresponding input requests.

  • In this paper, we proposed the method detecting multiple pedestrians using motion information and SVM(Support Vector Machine) from a moving camera image. First, we detect moving pedestrians from both the difference image and the projection histogram which is compensated for the camera ego-motion using corresponding feature sets. The difference image is simple method but it is not detected motionless pedestrians. Thus, to fix up this problem, we detect motionless pedestrians using SVM The SVM works well particularly in binary classification problem such as pedestrian detection. However, it is not detected in case that the pedestrians are adjacent or they move arms and legs excessively in the image. Therefore, in this paper, we proposed the method detecting motionless and adjacent pedestrians as well as people who take excessive action in the image using motion information and SVM The experimental results on our various test video sequences demonstrated the high efficiency of our approach as it had shown an average detection ratio of 94% and False Positive of 2.8%.

  • Objective : Localized vibration has been shown to have a positive effect on recovery of upper-limb motor function in patients with hemiparetic stroke, but there has been little research on kinematic analysis for qualitative changes in movement. This study investigated kinematic changes in elbow motion during reaching after localized vibration in persons with hemiparetic stroke. Methods : This study used a one-group, cross-over trial design. Ten chronic stroke patients randomly received localized vibrations on the affected biceps brachii for 5, 10, or 20 min, at 70 Hz. Kinematic analysis of reaching was measured using a 3-D motion analysis system. Variables included peak angular velocity, time to peak angular velocity, and movement units during elbow motion. Result : Affected side elbow motion during reaching was faster, smoother, and more efficient after 20 min localized vibration. Peak angular velocity increased (p<0.05), and time to peak angular velocity (p<0.05) and the movement unit were significantly decreased (p<0.05) during elbow motion for reaching. Conclusion : Localized vibration can improve kinematic components during reaching motion in persons with hemiparetic stroke.
