  • This paper describes an experimental program to investigate the shear behavior of insulated concrete sandwich panels (CSPs) with different types of GFRP shear connector. The study included testing of 13 insulated CSP specimens with two types of surface conditions for extruded polystyrene (XPS) insulation and various shapes of shear connectors. All specimens were loaded in direct shear by means of push-out and were consist of three concrete panels, two insulation layer and four rows of GFRP shear connectors. Load-relative slip between concrete panel and insulation response of CSP specimens has been established through push-out shear test. Test results indicate that the surface condition of insulation has a significant effect on the bond strength between concrete panel and insulation. The specimen used XPS foam with 10mm deep slot shows higher bond strength than those used XPS foam with meshed surface. Corrugated GFRP shear connectors show equivalent strength to grid GFRP shear connectors. Cross-sectional area and embedded length of shear connector have a notable effect on overall response and inplane shear strength of the CSP specimens.

  • Two-dimensional hydraulic model experiments on rubble mound structure armoring with the tetrapods and the superstructure were conducted to investigate wave transmission characteristics under irregular wave conditions. The previous studies about the wave transmission coefficients dealt with the low crested structures, therefore the rock was the main armor units and the superstructure was not constructed. In this study, the new empirical design formula for the wave transmission coefficient about rubble mound structure with the tetrapods and the superstructure was suggested and the effects of wave steepness and the row of the tetrapods in front of the superstructure could be considered.

  • Recently spaceborne SAR systems are increasing image resolution and frequency. As a high quality image resolution, the wider bandwidth is required and a wideband signal generator with RF component is very complicated and RF impairments of device is increased. Therefore, it is very important to improve performance by reducing these errors. In this study, the transmission signal of the wideband signal generator is applied to the phase noise, IQ imbalance, ripple gain, nonlinear model of high power amplifier. And we define possible structures of wideband signal generator and measure the PSLR and ISLR for the performance assesment. Also, we extract error of the amplitude and phase from the waveform and use a quadratic polynomial curve fitting and examine the performance change due to nonlinear device. Finally, we apply a high power amplifier predistortion method for non-linear error compensation. And we confirm that distortion in the output of the amplifier by intermodulation component is decreased by 15 dB.

  • The main objective of this study is to determine if the sources of AE in corroded specimens of aluminum could be identified iron the characteristics of the waveform signals recorded during fatigue loading. Coupons of notched 2024-T3 aluminum with or without corrosion (at the notch) were subjected to fatigue loading and the AE signals were recorded using non-resonant, flat, wide-band transducers. The time history and power spectrum of each individual wave signal recorded during fatigue crack growth were examined and classified according to their special characteristics. Five distinct types of signals were observed regardless of specimen condition. The waveform and power spectra were shown to be dependent on specimen condition. During the initial phase of crack growth, the signals obtained in the as-received specimens are most probably due to transgranular cleavage caused by extrusion and intrusion under fatigue loading. In the corroded specimen the signal are probably generated by intergranular cleavage due to embrittlement of grain boundary neat the pitting tip. The need for additional research to further validate these findings is indicated.

  • $BaTiO_3$ thin film was electrochemically deposited on Ti electrode in a 0.4 M $Ba(OH)_2$ solution of $85^{\circ}C$ using a current pulse waveform. Both $BaTiO_3$ crystallinity and faradaic efficiency for the film formation were enhanced with the increase of cathodic current density and pulse time. Based on the surface analysis and electrochemical studies, it was suggested that, during cathodic pulsed, the surface pH increase due to the reduction of $H_2O$ accelerates the structural changes of Ti oxides which were formed during anodic cycle. Prior to experiments, Ti oxides were intentionally grown in 0.1 M $H_2SO_4$ solution and the effect of initial oxide film thickness on the $BaTiO_3$ film formation was investigated. The migration of $Ti^{+4}$ ions through the oxide film was retarded with the increase of film thickness and it was observed that the crystallization of $BaTiO_3$ was only limited to the defect area of surface oxides.

  • We propose a foe phase tuner and a rounding processor for a numerically controlled oscillator (NCO), yielding a reduced phase error in generating a digital sine waveform. By using the fine Phase tuner Presented in this paper, when the ratio of the desired sine wave frequency to the clock frequency is expressed as a fraction, an accurate adjustment in representing the fractional value can be achieved with simple hardware. In addition, the proposed rounding processor reduces the effects of phase truncation on the output spectrum. Logic simulation results of the NCO for multi-carrier channel separation in cdma2000 3X multi-carrier receive system using these techniques show that the noise spectrum and mean square error (MSE) are reduced by 8.68 dB and 5.5 dB, respectively compared to those of truncation method and 2.38 dB and 0.83 dB, respectively, compared to those of Paul's scheme.

  • In this paper a commute time embedding is implemented by organizing patches according to the graph-based metric, and its properties are investigated via changing the number of nodes on the graph.. It is shown that manifold embedding methods generate the intrinsic geometric structures when waveforms such as speech or music instrumental sound signals are embedded on the low dimensional Euclidean space. Basically manifold embedding algorithms only project the training samples on the graph into an embedding subspace but can not generalize the learning results to test samples. They are very effective for data clustering but are not appropriate for classification or recognition. In this paper a commute time guided transform is adopted to enhance the generalization ability and its performance is analyzed by applying it to the classification of 6 kinds of music instrumental sounds.

  • This work proposes a new method to generate velocity profile of a traction motor equipped in a rehabilitation system for knee joint patients through humanoid robot simulation. To this end, a three-dimensional full-body humanoid robot model is newly constructed, and natural human gait is simulated by applying to it reference joint angle trajectories already published. Linear velocity is derived from distance data calculated between the positions of a thigh band and its traction motor at every sampling instance, which is a novel idea of this paper. The projection rule is employed to kinematically describe the humanoid robot because of its high efficiency and accuracy, and measured joint trajectories are used in simulating human natural gait referring to Winter's book. The attained motor velocity profile for a certain position in human body will be applied to our walking-assistance system which is implemented with a treadmill system.

  • In this paper, we introduce a novel model to analyze the linearity of a TW-EAM (traveling-wave electroabsorption modulator). The device length, microwave loss (ML), and internal reflection (IR) due to impedance mismatch have effect on the linearity of a TW-EAM. The longer devices have characteristics of lower biases with minimum IMDS (intermodulation distortions). ML decreases the output power as well as the IMD value. Internal reflection has different nonlinear characteristics according to the wavelength of the input frequency and the device length. There is little change in SFDR (spurious-free dynamic range) due to ML or IR. As a result, for a 50 GHz band RF-optical communication system, a 0.8 mm-long TW-EAM with the lowest ML would have better properties by using n, which is caused by impedance, mismatch at the output port.

  • Numerical analyses were performed on the heat flow characteristics of a heat transfer plate with six different shapes (basic, rectangle, triangle, wave type) to reduce the level of white smoke at a stack. In this study, to examine the heat transfer performance (heat transfer capacity, pressure drop, turbulence kinetic energy, heat transfer coefficient) on the heat transfer plates, simulations were conducted using the commercial computational fluid dynamics software, ANSYS CFX Ver.14 under uniform flow conditions. The thermal flow phenomenon in a channel with six heat transfer plates could be predicted adequately under uniform flow conditions. The heat transfer capacity, pressure drop, turbulence kinetic energy, and heat transfer coefficient were affected by the flow rate, aspect ratio and plate shape. These results provide guidelines to design an effective heat exchanger with the wave type to reduce white smoke.
