A Unified Time-domain Channel Estimator for OFDM based Ubiquitous Broadband Access (OFDM 기반의 유비쿼터스 광대역 접속을 위한 단일화 시간영역 채널 추정기)

  • This paper proposes a unified time-domain channel estimator (UTD-CE) for ubiquitous wireless broadband access based on orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. As a part of a software radio platform for ubiquitous services, the proposed UTD-CE can be exploited with the simply changeable parameters, pilot symbols and pilot subcarriers allocation, which are usually different according to the system specifications such as IEEE802.11x WiFI, IEEE802.16x WiMAX, DMB, Media FLO, DVB-H, etc. Given the pilot information, the channel frequency responses (CFRs) of data subcarriers will be analogously estimated by Wiener filtering and discrete Fourier transform (DFT)-based interpolation in the UTD-CE. Simulation results indicate that the proposed method significantly outperforms the conventional time-domain channel estimator when the pilot information is changed.

  • In this paper, we derive the optimum number of users which can maximize the information theoretic sum capacity in multiuser OFDM virtual MIMO uplink system. In which, there are multiple antennas at the base station and a number of users with single transmit antenna. Pilot-assisted channel state estimation is assumed for a block fading channel and time-varying fading channel. We analyze the tradeoff between the multiplexing gain and pilot overhead especially in low SNR regime and conclude that the optimum number of users is min ($N_r$,LT/2 ) in frequency nonselective block fading channel and approximately equal to min ($N_r$, ${\lfloor}{\sqrt{LT+1}}-1{\rfloor}$) in time varying fading channel. assuming the same pilot and signal pwoer.

  • This paper presents the performance evaluation of channel estimation algorithm using RLS algorithm lot W-CDMA reverse link over Rayleigh fading channels. By obtaining BER(Bit Error Rate) performance through computer simulations, the RLS(Recursive Least Square) algorithm is compared with the existing WMSA(Weighted Averaging)(K=1,3) and constant gain algorithm. The channel structure, modulation and pilot patterns are applied to the ARIB (Association of Radio Industries and Business) and 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) ITU-R proposal for the IMT-2000. The BER performance of RLS algorithm with linear interpolation is similar to that of WMSA(K=1) and slightly superior to that of constant gain algorithm at low Doppler frequencies. Also, RLS algorithm performance is better than that of the WMSA(K=1,3) and constant gain algorithms about 4dB at BER=2.0$\times$$10^{-2}$ and Doppler frequencies $F_D$=320Hz. With increasing Doppler frequency, therefore, the BER performance of RLS algorithm with linear interpolation is superior to WMSA(K=L.3) and constant rain algorithms.

  • FCC of U.S. permitted usage of unlicensed system on unused spectrum in TV white space after DTV transition. The unlicensed systems are required to avoid harmful interference to licensed users by employing geo-location database and spectrum sensing. The conventional spectrum sensing algorithms for ATSC signal were focused on detection of pilot signal. However, they can not guarantee detection of ATSC signal when pilot signal is attenuated by channel environment such as fading. To overcome drawbacks of conventional schemes, in this paper, we propose a signal detection and data fusion algorithm using cyclo-stationary feature weighted by signal energy. Simulation results verify that the proposed algorithm can provide 2dB SNR gain for 90% detection probability compare with the conventional scheme. We can reduce quiet period for spectrum sensing and improve signal detection probability by employing the proposed algorithm.

  • In this paper, a novel pilot-aided integer frequency offset estimation scheme is proposed for orthogonal Sequency division multiplexing (OFDM)-based digital video broadcasting (DVB) systems. The conventional pilot-aided integer frequency offset estimation scheme proposed for OFDM-based DVB systems exploits the partial information of combinations provided by pilots. Thus, in this paper, we propose a novel integer frequency offset estimation scheme exploiting all information of pilot combinations. To compare the performance of the proposed scheme with that of the conventional scheme, we conduct a simulation in additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) and multipath Rayleigh channels, which shows that the proposed scheme outperforms the conventional scheme in terms of the probability of integer frequency offset estimation failure.

  • We propose two feedback interference cancellers(FICs) to improve the performance of the equalization digital on-channel repeater(EDOCR) with the FIC for the ATSC DTV broadcasting system. The FIC estimates the feedback channel between Tx. and Rx. antennas of the repeater by cross-correlating the reference signal and the feedback signal. Since there is a DC pilot which ruins the white property of the ATSC DTV signals, the FIC cannot estimate the feedback channel accurately. To solve the problem, the structural method which uses an additional DC pilot free reference for feedback channel estimation and the algorithmic method based on the digital signal processing which whitens the ATSC DTV signals and performs the feedback cancellation in the whitened signal domain. Simulation results show that the proposed two FICs show better feedback cancellation performance than the conventional FIC.

Synthesis of Water-soluble Fiber using Carboxymethylcellulose(CMC) and Development of Pilot Plant (카르복시메틸셀룰로오스 제조공정을 이용한 수용성 섬유 제조 및 파일럿 플랜트 개발)

  • Carboxymethylcellulose(CMC) which is water-soluble fiber was manufactured by mercerization and etherification in the earlier study. Experimental parameters were conversion time for each step, concentration of reagent and temperature. To know the presence of functional group, CMC was analyzed by FT-IR(Fourier Transform Infrared) spectroscopy. Ethanol was recovered using evaporator and purity of ethanol analyzed by GC-MASS was 97% and 83% after mercerization and etherification respectively. For the pilot plant, if CMC is folded by 40 times it showed maximum efficiency. Maximum solubility was obtained when the ratio of NaOH and MCA is 3 : 4.5.
