An Application of Statistical Downscaling Method for Construction of High-Resolution Coastal Wave Prediction System in East Sea (고해상도 동해 연안 파랑예측모델 구축을 위한 통계적 규모축소화 방법 적용)

  • A statistical downscaling method was adopted in order to establish the high-resolution wave prediction system in the East Sea coastal area. This system used forecast data from the Global Wave Watch (GWW) model, and the East Sea and Busan Coastal Wave Watch (CWW) model operated by the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA). We used the CWW forecast data until three days and the GWW forecast data from three to seven days to implement the statistical downscaling method (inverse distance weight interpolation and conditional merge). The two-dimensional and station wave heights as well as sea surface wind speed from the high-resolution coastal prediction system were verified with statistical analysis, using an initial analysis field and oceanic observation with buoys carried out by the KMA and the Korea Hydrographic and Oceanographic Agency (KHOA). Similar to the predictive performance of the GWW and the CWW data, the system has a high predictive performance at the initial stages that decreased gradually with forecast time. As a result, during the entire prediction period, the correlation coefficient and root mean square error of the predicted wave heights improved from 0.46 and 0.34 m to 0.6 and 0.28 m before and after applying the statistical downscaling method.

Numerical Experiment of Wave Attenuation considering Behavior of Vegetation Zone (식생대의 거동을 고려한 파랑감쇠의 수치실험)

  • In this study, the two-way coupled analysis method of LES-WASS-2D and DEM has been newly developed to review numerically wave attenuation due to behavior of vegetation zone could not yet applied in numerical analysis. To verify the applicability, two-way coupled analysis method is analyzed comparing to the experimental result about characteristics of wave attenuation using vegetation. Numerically analyzed behavior and characteristics of wave attenuation according to height length, distribution length, spacing of vegetation zone and incident wave conditions. It was confirmed to be effective of 3~4% wave attenuation were increased height length and distribution length, narrowed spacing of vegetation. Finally, this study is applicable to behavior and wave attenuation prediction of vegetation zone.

Finite Element Analysis for Multiple Floating Breakwaters (다열 부유식 방파제의 유한요소 해석)

  • This paper is concerned with the analysis of wave reflection and transmission from multiple floating breakwaters. Linear potential theory was used for modeling wave field, and the behaviors of the floating breakwaters was represented as linearized equation of motions. The boundary value problem for the wave field was discretized by Galerkin technique. The radiation condition at infinity was modeled as infinite elements developed by Park et al.(1991). The validation of the developed model was given through the comparison with hydraulic experimental data conducted by Park et al.(2000). The possibility for the application of multiple floating breakwaters was also discussed based on the numerical experiments.

  • The problem of sea wave transformation in the coastal zone taking into account effects of nonlinearity and disperison has been studied. Mathematical model for description of regular wave transformation is based on the method of nonlinear ray theory. The equations for rays and wave field have been produced. Nonlinear wave field is described by the modified Korteweg-de Vries equation. Some analytical solutions of this equation are obtained. Caustic transformation and dissipation effects are included in the mathematical model. Numerical algorithm of solution of the Korteweg-de Vries equation and its stability criterion are described. Results of nonlinear transformation of sea waves in the coastal zone are demonstrated.

  • 항내의 파랑장을 구하는 것은 항만설계상 중요하다. 요즈음에는 많은 경비와 노력을 요하는 수리모형실험대신에 다양한 수치해석이 행하여 지고있다. 그러나 회절 및 다중반사, 굴절 등 복잡한 파의 변형을 표현할 수 있는 수치해석 방법으로 여러 가지가 제안되어 있지만 아직 충분한 수준은 아니라고 판단된다. 등수심에 대해서는 이미 확립되어져 있는 Green함수법을 변수심장에 응용하기 위해서 변수심장에 대한 점원파(source waves)의 기본해(unit solution)를 구하는 것이 본 연구의 목적이다. (중략)

Wave Modeling considering Water Level Changes and Currents Effects (수위변화와 흐름효과를 고려한 파랑모델링)

  • In this study, wave model was conducted on the presence or absence of water level changes and currents effects in coastal waters coexisting with waves and currents, then the results were compared. The flow field applied the results of the RIAMOM model and the wave model applied the SWAN model. Among ECMWF, NCEP and JMA, wind data applied JMA data sets which agreed well with the observed data comparatively. Numerical simulation was conducted for 8 months from January to August 2016. For each case, the deviation of wave height was calculated for the high wave of more than 2.5 m for comparison with observed data. As a result, the deviation of wave height was not significant both considering water level changes and currents effects or not at wave observation stations installed in deep waters. However, a significant deviation of wave height of 5~10% was obtained depending on water level changes and currents effects at the comparison point in shallow waters.

A Study on Estimation of Allowable Wave Height for Loading and Unloading of the Ship Considering Ship Motion (계류선박의 동요량을 고려한 하역한계파고 산정 방법에 관한 연구)

  • This study proposed an estimation method of allowable wave height for loading and unloading of the ship considering ship motion that is affected by ship sizes, mooring conditions, wave periods and directions. The method was examined validity by comparison with wave field data at pier $8^{th}$ in Pohang new harbor. The wave field data obtained with wave height of 0.10~0.75m and wave period of 7~13s in ship sizes of 800~35,000ton when a downtimes have occurred. On the other hand, the results of allowable wave height for loading and unloading of the ship in this method have obtained with wave heights of 0.19~0.50m and wave periods of 8~12s for ship sizes of 5,000, 10,000 and 30,000ton. Thus this method well reproduced the field data respond to various a ship sizes and wave periods. And the results of this method tended to decrease in 16~62% when have considered long wave, and it is decreased in 0~46% when didn't consider long wave than design standards in case of the ship sizes of 5,000~30,000ton, wave period of 12s and wave angle of $75^{\circ}C$. The allowable wave heights for loading and unloading of the ship proposed by design standards are didn't respond to various the ship sizes and wave periods, and we have found that the design standards has overestimated on smaller than 10,000ton.

Wave Forces Acting on Large Vertical Circular Cylinder and Consequent Wave Transformations by Full-Nonlinear Analysis Method after Wave Breaking (강비선형해석법에 의한 대형연직원주구조물에 작용하는 쇄파후의 파력 및 파랑변형)

  • Simulations of three-dimensional numerical wave tank are performed to investigate wave force acting on a large cylindrical structure and consequent wave deformation, which are induced by bore after breaking waves. The numerical model is based on the three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations with a finite-difference method combined with a volume of fluid(VOF) method, which is capable of tracking the complex free surface, including wave breaking. In order to promote wave breaking of the incident wave, the approach slope was built seaward of the structure with a constant slope and a large cylindrical structure was installed on a flat bed. The incident waves were broken on the approach slope or flat bed by its wave height. In the present study, all waves acting on the large cylindrical structure were limited to breaking bore after wave breaking. The effects of the position of the structure and the incident wave height on the wave force and wave transformations were mainly investigated with the concern of wave breaking. Further, the relations between the variation of wave energy by wave propagation after wave breaking and wave force acting on the structure were discussed to give the understanding of the full-linear wave-structure interactions in three-dimensional wave fields.

The Local Scour around Submarine Pipelines in the Interaction Region Combined with Waves and Currents (파랑과 정상흐름의 공존역에서 해저관로 주변의 국부세굴)

  • In the study, experiments are performed in the interaction region combined with wave and current to investigate the characteristics of local scour around submarine pipelines. Wave generator and current generator are used for the experiments and two current directions were used; co-direction and counter direction to the wave. The local scour depths around the pipeline are obtained according to the various pipe diameters(D), wave periods(T), wave heights(H), and current velocities(V). The experiments show that the maximum equilibrium local scour depth increases with pipe diameter, wave period, wave height, and current velocity. Using the experimental results, the correlations of scour depth and parameters such as Shields parameter($\theta$), Froude number(Fr), period parameter, Keulegan-Carpenter number(KC), Ursell number($U_R$), modified Ursell number($U_{RP}$) and ratio of velocities($U_{c}/(U_{c}+U_{m})$) are analyzed. In the interaction region combined with waves and currents, Froude number and Shields parameter are found the main parameters to cause the local scour around the submarine pipelines and this means that current governs the scour within any limits of the currents.
