In this study, evaluation of acoustic emission signals characteristics for the post weld heat treated (PWHT) multi-pass weldment and weldment was dealt. Charpy standard specimens were taken from the lowest, middle and highest regions of the weld block. Pre-crack was made using the repeated load. Four point bend and AE tests were conducted simultaneously. Regardless of the specimens, AE signals were absent within elastic region and produced in the process of plastic deformation. AE signals for all specimens were not emitted after the maximum load. Value of signal strength for the all PWHT specimens was lower than that of the weldment. Besides, relations of plastic deformation zone size and accumulated AE counts for the PWHT specimens were more simple compared with the weldment. In case of the PWHT specimen, particles on the fractured surface decreased prominently compared with the weldment due.to PWHT. From these results, it can be concluded that PWHT was effective in reducing the AE sources for the weldment.
In this paper, yield stress, tangent modulus and failure strain were varied to ascertain the influence of impact response such as impact force histories and residual energy. And the buckling behavior of FML(Fiber Metal Laminates) were analyzed using numerical method. A number of analyses on FML and aluminum panel were conducted for shear and compression loading to compare the capability of stability. And to evaluate the static performance, static analysis has performed for box beam structure. Low-velocity impact analysis has performed on FML made of aluminum 2024 sheet and glass/epoxy prepreg layers. And the buckling and static performance of FML have been compared to aluminum using the analysis results. For the comparison of structural performance, similar analyses have been carried out on monolithic aluminum 2024 sheets of equivalent weight.

The objective of this paper is to evaluate the crack stability of the nuclear main stresm pipes, considering the load reduction effect due to the presence of circumferential throuth-wall crack. Also, the optimization techniques are adoped tosimulate the crack effect on the elbow component of the piuping system. By using a general beam elemetn which contains a discontinuous cross-section, the piping analysis is accomplished to acquire the reduced load. Considering this reduced load, it is feasible for the LBB application in nuclear main stresm pipe. Also, by combining an optimization program and a genaral finite element analysis program, the appropriate dimensions of the simplified beam elemtn which represents the effect of crack in elbow could be successfully determined.

Recently, the use of duplex stainless steel which with a two-phase microstructure (equal mixture of ferrite and austenite) has been increased in a variety of industrial fields due to higher strength leading to weight saving, greater corrosion resistance(particularly, stress corrosion cracking) and lower price. However, currently, stainless steels are not included in the structural materials of Korean Building Code and corresponding design standards are not specified. In this paper, experimental studies have been performed to investigate the structural behaviors of duplex stainless steel (STS329FLD) bolted connection with two bolts for providing the design data. Main variables are shear connection type (single shear and double shear) and end distance parallel to the direction of applied force. Fracture modes at the final step of test were classified into typical block shear fracture, tensile fracture and curling. Curling occurrence in single shear connection led to ultimate strength drop by up to 20%. Test strengths were compared with those by current design specifications such as AISC/AISI/KBC, EC3 and AIJ and proposed equations by existing studies. For specimens with no curling, Clement & Teh's equation considering the active shear plane provided a higher strength estimation accurancy and for specimens with curling, Kim & Lim's equation considering strength reduction by curling was also overly unconservative to predict the ultimate strength of curled connections.

Military aircraft may have fatigue cracks in structurally weak areas due to multiple factors such as the accumulation of flight time while perform various missions and unpredictable air conditions. As a fatigue crack progresses, there is a risk that the structure will be destroyed in extreme cases, which can have a significant impact on flight safety. In this study, a cracking phenomenon was observed during the periodic inspection the inner support of the fairing, which is installed to protect the connection between the wing and the body of the aircraft. Therefore, a study on a series of quality improvement processes for reformation was described. In order to identify the causes of cracks, pre-load generation occurrence during the wing assembly process was investigated and a fracture analysis was performed. Also, the design of the support structure was suggested in terms of preventing recurrence of cracks. The structural integrity was verified using a stress and fatigue life analysis.

The study investigates the mechanical deformation of a newly developed screwless omega-wire dynamic system for stabilization of the spine. The omega-wire spring stabilization system was tested under tension, compression, and dynamic compressive fatigue loads. In addition, its bending deformation was compared to that of a spiral-wire spring system using FEA. A model whose hanger inter-center distance is 60 mm showed an ultimate tensile stress of 3981.7 N at a displacement of 3.61 mm and an ultimate compressive load of 535.6 N at a displacement of 2.16 mm. Under fatigue loading of 5 Hz with 10 N/1 N, it did not show any failure over 5 million cycles, and the displacement was restricted to 8-9 mm. In the FEA, the omega-wire spring system showed more flexible bending features than did the spiral-wire spring system.

An analysis model is developed to evaluate the dynamic responses of a bridge system under seismic excitations, in which pounding actions between girders are considered in addition to other phenomena such as nonlinear pier motion, rotational and translational motions of foundations. The model also considers the abutment and restrainers connecting adjacent girders to prevent the unseating failures. Using the developed model, the longitudinal dynamic behaviors of a bridge system are examined for various peak ground accelerations, and the effects of the applied restrainers are investigated. It is found that the restrainers reduce the relative displacement with the shorter clearance length as well as the higher stiffness of the restrainers for moderate excitations. However, in the region with strong excitations the restrainers may yield due to the large relative displacement. Therefore, the extension of support length in addition to restrainers may need to prevent the unseating failure more effectively.

An experimental study was conducted to evaluate the breakout strength of stirrup-reinforced cast-in anchors under dynamic shear loadings. The shear loadings were applied in the manner specified in the ACI 355.2 and ETAG 001 for the seismic qualification tests. Test specimens were fabricated with M36 anchor (edge distance, 180mm) reinforced with D10 stirrups (spacing, 100mm). The specimens reached almost the breakout strength and thereafter fracture of anchor occurred. Additional tests with M42 anchor (edge distance, 160mm) reinforced with D6 bars (spacing, 100mm) were also conducted. The experimental results showed that the dynamic shear strength was not less than the static resistance. Based on the test results, it was shown that ACI 318 and ETAG 001 specifications estimate the breakout strength of stirrup-reinforced anchors conservatively as more reinforcement is provided.
The objective of this work is to design Surface Antenna Structure (SAS) and investigate fatigue behavior of SAS that is asymmetric sandwich structure. This term, SAS, indicates that structural surface becomes antenna. Constituent materials are selected considering electrical properties, dielectric constant and tangent loss as well as mechanical properties. For the antenna performance, SSSFIP elements inserted into structural layers were designed fur satellite communication at a resonant frequency of 12.5 GHz and final demonstration article was $16{\;}{\tiems}{\;}8$ array antenna. From electrical measurements, it was shown that antenna performances were in good agreement with design requirements. In cyclic 4-point bending, flexure behavior was investigated by static and fatigue test. Fatigue life curve of SAS was obtained. The fatigue load was determined experimentally at a 0.75 (1.875kN) load level, Experimental results were compared with single load level fatigue life prediction equations (SFLPE) and in good agreement with SFLPE. SAS concept is the first serious attempt at integration fur both antenna and composite engineers and promises innovative future communication technology.

The evaluation of displacement ductility is performed by direct method through tracking the inelastic hysteretic behavior of RC bridge columns subject to cyclic loading using a flexibility-based fiber element mode. To reasonably track the inelastic behavior until the RC bridge column reaches its ultimate state, the average stress-average strain relations and joint elements, which agree well with experiments, are modified and applied considering the tension stiffening behavior and discontinuous displacement between the column and its base. In addition the evaluation of displacement ductility is performed by a direct method easily applicable to numerical analysis. Locations for the integration points, values for the post-crushing concrete strength and low-cycle fatigue failure of longitudinal reinforcement that affect the calculation of yielding and ultimate displacements are proposed for the application to flexibility-based fiber element model. Since less than 10% of error occurs during the displacement ductility analysis, the yielding and ultimate displacements evaluated by the applied analysis method and model appear to be valid.
