Purpose: This study was aimed to investigate the effects of Lebed method exercise (LME) on nurses' depression, anxiety and stress. The LME is a therapeutic exercise and movement program developed by Sherry Lebed Davis and expected to lessen the stress level of nurses and enhance the nursing job's satisfaction and efficiency. This study was utilized a non equivalent control group pre-post test design. Method: The subjects were 36 nurses in total; 18 in experimental group and 18 in control group. The data were collected from March to August, 2008. For the experimental group, 8 hour-long lectures on stress management and LME were given for 12 weeks. For the control group, only lectures on stress management was given. Depression, anxiety, perceived stress, and heart rate variability were measured on the subjects in both groups as pre- and post tests. The data were analyzed by Kolmogrov-Smirov test and P-P plot, t-test and $x^2-test$ using the SPSS program. Results: As proposed in the hypothesis, the subjects in the experimental group experienced less depression (t=2.286, p=.029), less anxiety (t=3.319, p=.002) and less perceived stress(t=2.862, p=.007) than those in the control group. Conclusion: The LME is considered an effective exercise to improve depression, anxiety, and to lessen stress for the nurses. The LME program has potential to be one of the effective stress management interventions for nurses in the future.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to find out the research trend and analyze the evidence of research on massage interventions for patients in Korea. Methods: Literature database search from 2003 to 2008 was carried out including KSTUDY, RICHIS, RISS4U, and NANET using the following MeSH terms: massage and patients. Results: A total of 51 articles registered in Korea Research Foundation were reviewed for analysis. Major participants of the studies were patients with cancer, surgery patients, stroke patients, and preterm babies. The outcome variables most commonly measured were blood pressure, state anxiety, and pain. While massage intervention was reported having a significant effect on lowering anxiety and pain, the other effects of massage in patients were inconsistent. Conclusion: Massage intervention has evidence-based effects on reducing anxiety and pain in patients. A larger body of methodologically sound research is needed to verify the multidimensional effects of massage.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the performance of patient engagement nursing services perceived by nurses and necessity in Korea. Methods: This study was a descriptive research. A total of 205 nurses participated in the study. The Smart Patient Engagement Assessment Checklist was developed by the investigators to assess patient engagement nursing services performance and necessity. The data were collected using online survey. Descriptive analysis and $x^2$ analysis were performed using SPSS 25.0 program. Results: The mean age of participants was $36.6{\pm}8.5years$ and the mean working experience was $12.92{\pm}9.23years$. Seventy eight percent of participants reported that patients and family participated in care as advisors through customer's suggestion or patient satisfaction assessment. The rate of patients' and family's engagement in care as advisors was significantly higher in tertiary hospitals ($x^2=28.54$, p<.001). About 89% of participants communicated with patients and family to make clinical decisions with a multidisciplinary approach. The rate of communication for multidisciplinary decision making was significantly higher in tertiary hospitals ($x^2=6.30$, p=.012). With regards to nurses' bedside patient handoff, 22.0% of participants reported that they were performing bedside patient handoff, and there was no significant difference between type of hospitals. About discharge planning, 72.2% of participants reported utilizing discharge checklist. Conclusion: Currently, patient engagement nursing services are applied partially in Korea. It seems that care protocols to be applied for patient engagement nursing services are insufficient. Therefore, patient engagement care protocols need to be developed to improve patient's health outcome and safety.
