  • The non-Newtonian flow curves of polyurethane melts were obtained by using a Physica cone-plate rheometer at various temperatures. The rheological parameters were obtained by applying non-Newtonian flow equation to the flow curves for polyurethane samples. When the polyurethane samples are under increasing-decreasing shear rate modes, the hysteresis loop and thixotropic behavior were shown. Polyurethane melts behave as strong gels when they are subjected to shear flow, but when the applied stress surpasses the yield stress, they exhibit non-linear viscoelasticity. Upon decreasing shear rate, its shear stress remains smaller than the values measured in the increasing shear rate mode, because of broken of its structure.

  • With several different dosages of multi-walled CNTs which was 0.1, 0.3, and 0.5% of the weight of binder, the fluidity in fresh CNT cement composites, as well as the strength and strength development with age of the hardened composites were investigated in this experimental study. The experimental results from flow test indicated that the increase in the dosage of CNTs badly impacted on the workability of fresh composites, and the results from rheological measurements presented the decrease in plastic viscosity and the increase in yield stress according to the amount of CNTs. In addition, the thixotrophy in the flow curve obtained from the rheology test was observed more noticeably in the composites with higher dosage of CNTs. With the experiments on the strength properties, the improvement of both compressive and tensile strengths with the increase of CNTs dosage could be obtained. Moreover, early strength development by adding CNTs was found when it was compared with plain cementious matrix without CNT.

  • In this paper, viscosity features of sealant (bentonite-cement slurry), which is used for umbrella arch method in tunnel, were studied. The sealant must secure optimal strength and capacity for the waterproof and stabilization of borehole as well as to satisfy groutability. In this study, the variation of viscosity was measured with different mixing processes. With an increase of initial mixing period with water and bentonite mixture, the required time for the rapid increase of viscosity of the sealant is shorten. With increase of mixing period, the possibility of swelling of bentonite will increases and this can lead increase of the viscosity of the mixture. In addition, the behaviors of sealant vary with a drastic increase of the viscosity: thixotropy and rheopexy. Furthermore, the bentonite/water mixing period influences on the bleeding features of the sealant. Further study is required to introduce the guideline, which can be applicable in the field in the aspect of required capacity of the sealants and mixing processes of the ingredients.

  • Aloe gel microcapsule was prepared by dehydrating dispersed aloe gel droplets in the form of W/O emulsion using a vacuum evaporator. The microcapsules remained in stable suspensions after washing with mineral oil and had a homogeneous spherical structure with diameter less than 6.4 ${\mu}m$. The microcapsule suspension in mineral oil (> 41%) exhibited a step increase in viscosity and shear-thinning but not showed thixotropic behavior with a yield stress higher than 300 Pa. The dense suspension appeared to be semi-solid as the microcapsule fraction increases and to be stable after heat treatment at $105^{\circ}C$ for 15 min. In conclusion, the dense suspension composed of gel microcapsules is expected to provide a basic cosmetic formulation that can be applied to develop various types of aloe gel cosmetic products.

  • A novel printable time-temperature integrator (TTI) composed of a natural coloring matter, anthocyanidin, was developed. The anthocyanin was biochemically modified to change in color over week scale, compared to the original anthocyanin over month scale change. The anthocyanin extracted from strawberry was converted to its aglycone, anthocyanidin, by the treatment with ${\beta}-glucosidase$. The print paste was composed of the freeze-dried powder of anthocyanidin, pullulan, glycerol and distilled water, which was screen-printed. The TTI performance were examined in terms of kinetics and temperature dependency. The activation energy of anthocyanidin TTI was 86.92 kJ/mol. Compared with the activation energy of foods, the applicable food groups were found. Applicable food groups were chilled meat products and fish. The major benefits of the TTI were the printability to be practical in use and the eco-friendliness with the natural pigment.

  • The Earth Pressure Balanced (EPB) Shield Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) is widely employed for constructing urban underground spaces due to its minimal vibration and low noise levels. The injection of additives offers several advantages, including maintaining shield chamber pressure, reducing shear strength, minimizing cutter wear, and decreasing the permeability of the excavated soil. This technique is known as soil conditioning and involves the application of additives such as foam, polymer, and bentonite slurry. In this study, weathered granite soil commonly encountered at domestic tunnel sites was used as a soil specimen. Foam and polymer were applied as additives to assess the rheological properties of conditioned soils. The workability was evaluated through slump tests, while the rheological properties were assessed through laboratory pressurized vane shear tests conducted under the same conditions. Specially, the polymer was applied under specific conditions with low workability with high slump values, with the aim of evaluating the impact of polymer application. The test results revealed that with an increase in the Foam Injection Ratio (FIR), the slump value also increased, while the torque, peak strength, yield stress, apparent viscosity, and thixotropic area decreased. Conversely, an increase in the Polymer Injection Ratio (PIR) led to results opposite to those of FIR. Additionally, a correlation between the slump value and yield stress was proposed. When comparing conditions with only foam applied to those with both foam and polymer applied, even with similar slump values, the yield stress was found to be lower in the latter conditions.
