해기사의 해사영어 사용에 대한 체계적 교육의 필요성이 증가되는 가운데, 국제해사기구(IMO)는 이에 발맞추어 해사영어모델코스 3.17을 일반해사영어(General Maritime English, 즉 GME)와 특수해사영어(Specialized Maritime English, 즉 SME)로 나누어 재편하고, STCW에서 요구하는 지식, 이해 및 기술사항들을 영어교육의 다양한 요소들과 접합함으로써, 해사영어교육의 새로운 틀을 만들고자 시도하고 있다. 국내 해기교육 관련대학 및 기관이 향후 해사영어 커리큘럼을 재편성하기 위해서는, 개정될 해사영어모델코스의 주요 내용을 이해하고, 이를 국내 실정에 맞게 적용할 수 있도록 다양한 방안을 모색하는 것이 선행되어야 한다. 따라서 본 연구에서는, 국제해사기구가 제시한 해사영어모델코스 3.17의 개정 목적 및 변화된 해사영어모델코스의 틀과 방향을 살펴보고, 향후 국내교육기관에서의 해사영어교육 커리큘럼을 재편성한 후, 성공적인 언어교육서비스 제공을 하기 위해 고려해야 할 현실적인 제한 요소들을 살펴보고, 이에 대한 해결책을 모색하고자 한다.

해사영어는 SMCP(표준해사통신용어)를 기반으로 하는 특수목적영어의 한 분야로 콘텐츠 개발을 비롯한 학습과 훈련을 지원할 수 있는 해사영어훈련기관을 통해 효과적인 학습과 훈련이 제공되어 진다면 교육생을 단기간에 그 구사 능력을 상당한 수준에 이르게 할 수 있다. 이 연구에서는 우리나라 해양분야의 국제 경쟁력을 제고하고 새로운 일자리 창출을 위해 필수적인 해양산업 종사자들의 영어구사 능력개발을 위한 해사영어훈련센터(METC)의 필요성과 설립방안을 제시한다.

본 연구는 특수목적영어분인 해사영어코퍼스의 구축을 목적으로 한다. 구축과정에서 코퍼스 구축에 필요한 대표성과 균형성을 고려하여 네 가지 장르인 학술, 뉴스, 법, 책으로 나누고 각 하위코퍼스를 백만 단어씩 구축하였다. 코퍼스 구축과정에서 웹사이트와 PDF형태의 자료에서 텍스트만을 수집하고 정제하기 위하여 파이썬(Python) 프로그래밍 코딩을 하였고 무료 공개 프로그램도 병행하였다. 앞으로 해사영어코퍼스는 해사영어어휘교육에 필요한 단어목록제공이나 예문 검색 등을 통한 자료중심학습법에 활용될 수 있을 것이다. 또한 본 연구의 코퍼스구축 과정은 다른 분야의 ESP코퍼스 구축에도 응용 될 수 있을 것이다.

Soo-Yeoun Kim & Ji-Eun Kim 2016. A Study on ESP Skating English Education Based on Job Analysis. This study aims to provide skating ESP(English for Specific Purposes) education model for skating instructors in Korea. For this purpose, a total of twenty-seven professional skating instructors were surveyed according to a questionnaire, which asked about their English skills and perspective of the importance of English study and English skating class. The main results are as follows: most skating instructors' confidence in their English is low; majority of them answered that English study is needed for skating instructors; a majority of them want English teaching that focused on speaking and teaching activities. After that, skating instructors' jobs were analyzed using the DACUM(Developing A Curriculum Method). A DACUM committee extracted the duties and tasks which require English education and conducted a survey that targeted skating instructors. When interpreting the study on ESP Skating English Education based on job analysis, it was evident that the English language would be essential for enabling effective communication with judges during national sports competitions, information exchange with foreign skaters, and for technical skating instructions. The purpose of this study was (1) to examine the present state of English education for the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics preparations, and (2) to identify the need for an English language training program for international sports events. With these goals in mind, the information was gathered from telephone interviews with educational administration officials who were responsible for international sporting events. For the survey, a total of twenty-six participants responded to a questionnaire designed to gauge their self-perceived English instructional needs for international sporting events. The principal results obtained from this study were: the Pyeongchang Organizing Committee for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games signed an agreement with an official supplier of language training services. In addition, Gangneung city is providing a 'Global Leaders' Academy' and English programs for taxi drivers and citizens. The result of the survey shows that the majority of participants reported that an English language training program is essential for international sporting events and it should be different from general English language education.

The present study aims to investigate perceptions of university students who are majoring in sports related fields about the introduction of Sports English education. For this purpose, a total of 133 students were surveyed according to a questionnaire asking about their English skills, opinions and attitudes with regard to English study and Sports English class. The main results obtained from this study are as follows: most students' interest in English is relatively low. Hence, students need to be encouraged to have an interest in English taught with special teaching methods; most students do not have confidence in their English; majority of students answered that English study is needed for students of sports. The biggest motivation for the sport students to learn English was 'better communication skills', followed by 'sports exchange opportunities', 'sports diplomacy and international sports events'; majority of students answered that Sports English class which focuses on sports is necessary in terms of their career after graduation. The finding from this study serves as a foundation in developing an ESP program for sports majors.

국내 조선소에서 해양플랜트공사 수주가 증가함에도 불구하고 관련 직무종사자들은 전문영어교육을 받지 못하여 직무 진행에 있어서 발주자들과 다양한 분쟁이 발생하고 있다. 따라서 해양플랜트 전문인력 양성 및 직무능력강화를 DACUM(Developing A Curriculum) 직무분석기법을 이용하여 표준해양플랜트 영어교육과정 모델을 개발하여 산업현자에 적합한 교육과정을 제시하고자 한다.

본 발표는 대한민국 선원의 의사소통 역량 및 글로벌 역량 강화를 위해 해수부에서 실시한 "선상 의사소통능력 강화방안" 사업을 통해 개발된 한국형 해사영어 커리큘럼의 수립 과정과 그에 따른 컨텐츠 제작 과정을 공유하고, 향후 개발 방향을 모색하기 위함이다. 따라서 본 발표를 통해 커리큘럼을 수립을 위한 선행 연구 과정(국제해사기구, 국제민간항공기구 및 국제항로표지협회 등의 국제 가이드라인 검토 및 분석, 특수목적영어 교육훈련기법 외), 교육 커리큘럼 수립(IMO 해사영어모델코스 및 표준해사통신용어 분석 및 재편성), 교육 컨텐츠 구성(실제 선사 유관 자료의 수집 및 데이터베이스 구축), 교육 훈련 교재 개발(교재, 학생용 워크북, 교사용 워크북, 음원) 등의 과정을 순차적으로 소개하고, 이에 대한 결과물을 공유하며, 향후 발전 방향을 제안하고자 한다.

다국적 선원으로 구성된 선박환경에서 근무하는 선원들에게는 원활한 의사소통을 위한 영어구사능력뿐만 아니라 서로 다른 문화에 적절히 대응하고 융합하는 이문화 커뮤니케이션 능력함양이 절대적으로 요구된다 할 것이다. 특히 필리핀, 중국, 인도, 일본, 인도네시아, 한국, 미얀마를 비롯한 아시아 선원들이 전 세계 선원시장에서 차지하는 비중이 50%에 달하는 점과, 이들 국가들이 영어를 모국어로 사용하고 있지 않은 점을 고려할 때, 아시아 지역 선원들에 대한 해사영어 교육훈련의 중요성은 아무리 강조하여도 지나치지 않을 것이다. 따라서 이 연구에서는 아시아해사영어교육센터에 대한 구성과 역할 및 향후 추진방향 등을 제시하고자 한다.

This study analyses the needs of workers at foreigners-only casinos in Korea on English for Specific Purposes (ESP). It also examines the most ideal English instructor for them and the motivations for their learning English. A total of ninety-nine casino workers in Seoul and Busan participated in the survey. Of the four language skills, English speaking is the most necessary area for them to learn and listening is the second. The most difficult part of communicating in English for them to learn is also speaking, followed by listening. This indicates that the area that they need to study and the area in which they have difficulty communicating in English have the same ranking. The participants in the marketing department had the longest working hours in English, and they were significantly different from those in other departments. Regardless of their departments, the participants responded that speaking is the most necessary area to learn English. They mentioned that their biggest motivation for learning English is self-realization, followed by smooth work. The most ideal English instructor was a Korean instructor with casino working experience, followed by a bilingual Korean instructor. This showed their preference for Korean English teachers with casino working experience. This study might be meaningful since it provides information on a new field, casino workers, by analyzing their needs on ESP. It is suggested that this may contribute to setting the direction of English curriculum for casino workers in the future.
