  • The discharge characteristics of an open dielectric structure were investigated, especially such as a firing voltage and related wall voltage, compared with conventional panel structure based on the Vt close curve measurement in AC plasma display panel. While the front panel of the conventional structure in AC plasma display panel was composed of the glass, electrodes, and dielectric, the open dielectric structure could easily produce the discharge between the scan and the sustain electrodes by erasing the dielectric layer between two electrodes. As the open dielectric structure differ from the conventional structure, various problems were produced when driving with the conventional driving waveform. Especially, due to the changes in the discharge firing characteristics of the open dielectric structure between the scan and the sustain electrodes on the front panel, the conventional reset waveform including the address waveform needed to be modified. In this study, the Vt close curves were measured to compare the discharge firing voltages on three electrodes in the conventional and open dielectric structure and based on the Vt close curve analysis, the modified driving waveform suitable for the open dielectric structure was proposed.

  • In this paper, chaotic circuit of the Lorentz system using multipliers, operational amplifiers, capacitor, fixed resistor and variable resistor for control has been designed in a electronic circuit. Through PSPICE program, electrical characteristics such as time waveforms, frequency spectra and phase attractors analyzed. And in the special area ($10{\sim}100k{\Omega}$) of the $500k{\Omega}$ control variable resistor, the circuit showed chaotic dynamics. Also, we implemented the circuit in a electronic hardware system with discrete elements. Measured results of the circuit coincided with simulated data.

  • Current earthquake alert notification for immediate post-earthquake procedures for the critical facilities is exclusively dependent on the ground-motion intensity measures observed at the seismic station located within the site. This practice is prune to false notification due to a noise and problems of missing and poor quality records of the seismic station. The credibility of the earthquake alert notification can be enhanced by utilizing the multiple transformed records of the nearby seismic stations at other sites interconnected to the same earthquake monitoring system by a network. The time-domain transformation of the site-response between the seismic stations is implemented by convoluting the nearby records with a pair of forward and inverse FIR filters designed for the site response relative to a seismic basement. The transformed records from the nearby seismic stations can be used to estimate the ground-motion intensity measures missing at the site or to evaluate the data quality along with other various possible applications in the area of geoscience and earthquake engineering.

  • This paper raises a question of whether a simple periodic phenomenon is associated with the topology and provides the convincing answers to it. A variety of music instrumental sound signals are used to prove our assertion, which are embedded in Euclidean space to analyze their topologies by computing the homology groups. A commute time embedding is employed to transform segments of waveforms into the corresponding geometries, which is implemented by organizing patches according to the graph-based metric. It is shown that commute time embedding generates the intrinsic topological complexities although their geometries are varied according to the spectrums of the signals. This paper employs a persistent homology to determine the topological invariants of the simplicial complexes constructed by randomly sampling the commute time embedding of the waveforms, and discusses their applications.

  • This paper presents an effective method to achieve the wideband waveform for high resolution SAR(Synthetic Aperture Radar) using the frequency multiplication technique. And also this paper analyzes the root causes for the spectral regrowth due to 3rd-order intermodulation in chirp bandwidth expansion scheme using quadrature modulator and frequency multipliers. The amplitude and phase imbalance requirement are defined based on the simulation results in terms of quadrature channel imbalance. This minimizes the degradation of range resolution, peak sidelobe ratio and integrated sidelobe ratio. The wideband chirp generator using the frequency multiplier and memory map scheme was manufactured and the compensation technique was presented to reduce the spectral regrowth of SAR waveform by minimizing the amplitude and phase imbalance. After I and Q channel imbalance adjustment, the carrier level reduces -28.7 dBm to -53.4 dBm. Chirp signal with 150 MHz bandwidth at S-band expands to 600 MHz bandwidth at X-band. The sidelobe levels are reduced by about 8 to 9 dB by compensating the amplitude balance between I and Q channels.
