A CMOS Fully Integrated Wideband Tuning System for Satellite Receivers (위성 수신기용 광대역 튜너 시스템의 CMOS 단일칩화에 관한 연구)

  • The digital DBS tuner is designed and implemented in a CMOS process using a direct-conversion architecture that offers a high degree of integration. To generate mathched LO I/Q quadrature signals covering the total input frequency range, a fully integrated ring oscillator is employed. And, to decrease a high level of phase noise of the ring oscillator, a frequency synthesizer is designed using a double loop strucure. This paper proposes and verifies a band selective loop for fast frequency switching time of the double loop frequency synthesizer. The down-conversion mixer with source follower input stages is used for low voltage operation. An experiment implementation of the frequency synthesizer and mixer with integrated a 0.25um CMOS process achieves a switching time of 600us when frequency changes from 950 to 2150MHz. And, the experiment results show a quadrature amplitude mismatch of max. 0.06dB and a quadrature phase mismathc of max. >$3.4^{\circ}$.

Analysis on DTV Indoor Reception Environments (디지털 TV 실내수신 환경 분석)

  • DTV has a great advantage as compared to Analog TV in picture quality under low reception field strength. Various high quality tuners have been developed to result in much smaller Noise Figure of the receivers and many trials for receiving DTV signal through indoor antenna. In this paper, results of intensive field tests on the indoor reception of DTV are presented. Tests were carried out around Seoul-Gyeonggi Metropolitan area. Commercial directional and omni-directional antennas and 5th generation receiver were used for reception availability tests. The effects of heights, locations, and types of the house as well as the distance to the transmitter on the reception performances are analyzed. Our test results will be applied to improve the indoor reception environment of DTV.

Streaming Device and App Development to Transmit and Play without store for Multimedia Contents (멀티미디어 콘텐츠를 저장 없이 스트리밍 전송 및 재생 가능한 스트리밍 기기 및 스마트 앱 개발)

  • Recently, many kinds of TV contents based on multimedia need transmission systems without the saved. In this study, we develop the streaming device and smart app to transmit and play without store for multimedia contents such a broadcasting, internet, VOD, video, and animation. To do this, we compare and analysis main CPU products, broadcasting tuners and interfaces for streaming sources, and memory products. We then design and implement the streaming device which supports 30fps@FHD H.264 decoding and streaming, and multimedia sources with more than three. We develop the software for these requirements. Thissystemis useful to support billing service for multimedia contents.

Two Noise Parameter Measurement Methods Using Spectrum Analyzer and Comparison (스펙트럼 분석기를 이용한 2가지 잡음 파라미터 측정방법과 비교)

  • In this paper, we propose two noise parameter measurement methods using spectrum analyzer. First method, we measure a noise correlation matrix using the 6-port network, and we calculate noise parameters using measured a noise correlation matrix. Second method, we directly measure noise figures of the DUT for source impedance changes, and then noise parameters are extracted from the measured noise figures. In order to measure a noise figure, we present a method of measuring a noise figure of the DUT that have arbitrary source impedances using spectrum analyzer and a method of eliminating a noise effect of a impedance tuner. Finally, the noise parameters of a passive and active DUT using proposed two methods are compared. The comparison shows that the two results obtained from for the two methods give almost identical noise parameters. The noise parameters measured by 6-port network accurately predict measured noise figures of the DUT for source impedance changes, and noise parameters measured by 6-port network is verified from the comparison.

Fabrication of silicon Voltage Variable Capacitance Diode-II (VVC 다이오드의 시작연구(II))

  • This report is concerned with the fahrication with the falricationof silicon VVC diode by the double diffusion planer technique. At first, some design charts for VVC diode were derived by considering the voltage-capacitance relations, the critical field intensity at the metallurgical junction, and the cut-off frequency of the diode. These charts enables the fabrication engineers to design VVC diode easily without going into the sophisticated design theory. We started with a 2.5 ohm-cm n-type epitaxial silicon wafer. The phosphorous was diffused by POCl3 impurity source. Then boron diffusion followed make hyperabrupt p-n junction by BN source. The maximum to minimum capacitance ratio of the diode as a tuning diode for a TV tuner made in these experiments was 4:1. Measured electrical characteristics of the sample diodes showed in good agreement with the theoretical expectations. Slicing and polishing technique of the silicon wafer and diffusion technique of the impurity atoms, which were employed in our study, are also stated briefly in this report.

  • The overlay multicast that has been recently presented as IP alternative for the IP multicast has been getting much persuasion by the computing power of the hardware and the advancement of the network techniques to enforce Routing in application-level. In an overlay multicast, the system resource and the network bandwidth must be utilized efficiently to service real-time HDTV images. Specifically, the system must consider the delay and the jitter that can be incurred at the application-level. In this paper, we implement a server and a client to broadcast HDTV, in the session composed by the existing overlay multicast protocol. The broadcasting server performs the service using a TV tuner, An HDTV camcorder, and files, clients constituting a multicast group relay the received data to other clients. At this time, the information that the clients report periodically, including their delay and the network state, to the server is used as an important information to maintain an overlay session. The implementation is based on the DirectX and its performance is evaluated by the LAN test bed that has been set.

  • [ $Ba(Zr_{0.08}Ti_{0.92})O_3$ ] polycrystal was grown by floating zone technique with two ellipsoidal mirrors using the $8\%$of Zr-modified BZT ceramics as both a feed rod and a seed crystal. In order to study the annealing effect, a part of the grown crystal was sliced and annealed in the oxygen atmosphere at $1,200^{\circ}C$ for 10 h. The dielectric constant and loss at 10 kHz, 100 kHz, and 1 MHz were measured in the temperature range between $-100^{\circ}C$ and $150^{\circ}C$ to investigate the dielectric properties of the grown polycrystal. The electric-field dependence of the dielectric constant at 10 kHz and 100 kHz was studied by measuring the dielectric constants as a function of the biased-electric fields which ran from -15 kV/cm to 15 kV/cm. Due to the effect of annealing in the oxygen atmosphere, the electric-field tunability of dielectric constants increased from $47.5\%$ to 5 to and the figure of merit for this material from 39.6 to 46.4. Since the figure of merit can be increased to more than 46.4 by increasing the maximum value of the biased-electric fields to more than 15 V/cm, this material nay have a possibility for applications in microwave tuning devices at room temperature.

A Study on Dress-up Turning as Means of Expressing Automobile Drivers' Self-identity (자동차 사용의 정체성 표출 수단으로서의 드레스업 튜닝에 대한 고찰)

  • As automobile drivers' desires become ever diversified with the spreading phenomenon of 'characteristic automobile decorations', it is feared that the design quality may be deteriorated, while the safety be retarded in terms of performance and function. In Korea, the 'Dress-up tuning' becomes the source of the social criticism because of lack of relevant codes and professional tuning services, while automobile drivers are excessively having their automobiles overdressed ignoring the overall aesthetic aspect and functions. Under such a circumstance, this study was aimed at reviewing the practices and dress-up accessories by each automobile part of those foreign automobile makers and professional tuners who have introduced the concept of 'customizing' and developed dress-up accessories and various tuning parts only to satisfy their customers' tuning needs. It is anticipated that automobile styling would tend more to pursue a 'coordination' featuring ordinary consumers' individualistic senses, while customers' needs reflecting their life styles be more refined. Meanwhile, Korean automobile consumers have accommodated the product designs : presented within the producers' frameworks, but they are expected to pursue the design values varying according to changing structures of production, society and industry as well as the resultant design activities. In all, makers and designers are requested to be aware of such changing environment structures and thereby, explore other alternatives, or reflect seriously on the socio-cultural implications inherent in the products, namely on the production and consumption of people's favorites.

Design of X-band 40 W Pulse-Driven GaN HEMT Power Amplifier Using Load-Pull Measurement with Pre-matched Fixture (사전-정합 로드-풀 측정을 통한 X-대역 40 W급 펄스 구동 GaN HEMT 전력증폭기 설계)

  • In this paper, a design and fabrication of 40 W power amplifier for the X-band using load-pull measurement of GaN HEMT chip are presented. The adopted active device for power amplifier is GaN HEMT chip of TriQuint company, which is recently released. Pre-matched fixtures are designed in test jig, because the impedance range of load-pull tuner is limited at measuring frequency. Essentially required 2-port S-parameters of the fixtures for extraction optimal input and output impedances is obtained by the presented newly method. The method is verified in comparison of the extracted optimal impedances with data sheet. The impedance matching circuit for power amplifier is designed based on EM co-simulation using the optimal impedances. The fabricated power amplifier with 15${\times}$17.8 $mm^2$ shows the efficiency above 35 %, the power gain of 8.7~8.3 dB and the output power of 46.7~46.3 dBm at 9~9.5 GHz with pulsed-driving width of 10 usec and duty of 10 %.

Frequency and Input Impedance Selective Antenna Using Lumped Element for Multi-band Handhold Terminals (집중형 소자를 이용한 공진 주파수 및 입력 임피던스 선택형 다중 대역 튜너블 안테나)

  • In this paper, multi-band internal antenna which can adjust both resonant frequency and input impedance of antenna as using lumped inductor between shoring plate and ground plane is proposed. The structure of proposed antenna consists of PIFA (Planar Inverted F Antenna) structure and half-wavelength loaded line structure and has two shorting plates and one feeding plate. One shorting plate is shared. The operating frequency bands of designed antenna are GSM, GPS in the PIFA structure and DCS, US-PCS, W-CDMA in half-wave loaded line structure as varying the inductor value in 2.2nH, 3.3nH, and 4.7nH. As varying the inductor value in the shared shorting plate, input impedance of antenna is varied. To minimize the gain variation of antenna as adding lumped element, the inductor value is restricted at maximum of 6.8nH. The maximum gain of proposed antenna is measured as -1.60dBi in the GSM band, -1.16dBi in the GPS band, and 1.41dBi in the DCS/US-PCS/W-CDMA band.
