  • This study was carried out to improve the rice grain quality of Gyeoungbuk Province from 2002 to 2004. In variation of grain quality characteristics as the cultivation years were changed, the coefficient of variation (CV) of palatability and amylose content were relatively low as $3.9\~4.3\%$ and those of protein content and head rice rate were high as $7.9\~12.2\%$. Among the varieties, the tendency of variation was similar with cultivation years changing, CV of amylose content and palatability also low as $2.6\~3.6\%$ and those of head rice rate and protein content were high as $5.4\~7.2\%$. In variation as affected by shifting of transplanting times, the CV of protein content was low as 2.2, it was also relatively low in amylose content and head rice rate as $3.1\~3.7\%$, but it was high in palatability as $5.8\%$. As the nitrogen application levels were different the CV of amylase content was $1.8\%$ that it was not affected by the N levels. But in case of protein content, the CV was $4.4\%$ that the variation was somewhat increased, it suggested that as the N levels were increased the protein content was also increased. From these results, the rice quality characteristics showed the higher variation in the change of cultivation years than that in rice varieties, transplanting times or nitrogen levels.

  • Ring-type steel fibers (RSFs) of the closed circular shape, have different resistance mechanisms other than straight steel fibers. RSFs also maintain the same value of the orientation factor for the plane enclosed by the fiber ring perimeter. In this research, comparative studies were performed for the panels reinforced with RSFs and with straight steel fibers of $15kg/m^3$ and $30kg/m^3$, respectively. Resisting mechanisms of RSFs were identified and higher toughness indices were experimentally observed for the concrete panels reinforced with RSFs than with straight steel fibers. Orientation factor for the RSF was suggested. It was found that RSFs were more effective in increasing toughness for the panel specimens with relatively thinner thickness than beam specimens.

  • $Y_2O_3$-BN ceramic composites were fabricated from the slurries of yttria powder with average particle size of 3~10 ${\mu}m$. The slurry was fabricated by mixing PVA binder, NaOH for Ph control, PEG, BN powder and $Y_2O_3$ powder. The mixed $Y_2O_3$ powders were obtained by spray drying process from the slurry. The $Y_2O_3$-BN composite specimen was shaped in size of ${\O}14mm$ and then sintered at $1550^{\circ}C$ and $1600^{\circ}C$, respectively. The characteristics, microstructure, purities, densities, bulk resistance, thermal expansion, hardness and plasma resistance of the $Y_2O_3$-BN composites were investigated with the function of BN contents and sintering temperature.

  • Today, many problems of dye-processing wastewaters were raised due to industry of dyeing and textiles. It is difficult to treat them perfectly because they contain many poorly degradable matters, such as surfactants, ethylene glycol, polyvinyl alcohol, and so on. To improve the performances of conventional physicochemical treatment and activated sludge process, new systems of combining jet-loop reactor (JLR) with physicochemical treatment were developed. Volumetric oxygen transfer coefficient ($k_{L}a$) of JLR was significantly larger than that of air-lift reactor. Also, for the effective treatment of dye-processing wastewater, JLR with active carbon supports (JLRAS) were investigated. Removal efficiency of BOD, $COD_{Mn}$, $COD_{Cr} and color were found as 99, 86, 84, 83%, respectively, when HRT was 8 hrs. And performance of JLRAS was rapidly restored after step change of $COD_{Mn}$ loading late. The optimal coagulant and dosage of second physicochemical treatment after JLRAS were polyferric sulfate and 130 mg/L, respectively, when removal efficiencies of $COD_{Mn} and color were 85 and 73%, respectively. In conclusion, this system enables the reduction of operation cost, and the effective removal of many organics.

  • This study is to contribute to the policy decision of cosmetic industry through analyzing marketing mix factors which affects customers' buying intention. For this study, marketing mix factors that impact on cosmetic customers purchasing intention were collected and chi-square independence analysis of SPSS and qualitative analysis technology of Kano & Timko were used. Analysis reached one conclusion, which factors were maximizing customers satisfaction, shows the price discount policy and recommendation from family and colleague. Product's effectiveness, usefulness and skin compatibility were rated as an one-dimensional quality as those factors were linearly affected when customers needs were satisfied. However product's containers, package design, colors, brand reputation, low and middle price, distribution channel and advertising medias were investigated as an indifferent quality and they were rated as low satisfaction/dissatisfaction coefficient of Timko. Therefore they do not need to invest to those factors too much budget for attaining customers' buying intention.

  • An alternative developmental toxicity test using mouse embryonic stem cell derived embryoid bodies has been developed. This alternative method is not to administer chemicals to animals, but to treat chemicals with cells. This study suggests the use of Discriminant Analysis, Support Vector Machine, Artificial Neural Network and k-Nearest Neighbor. Algorithm performance was compared with accuracy and a weighted Cohen's kappa coefficient. In application, various classification techniques were applied to cytotoxicity data to classify drug toxicity and compare the results.

  • In this study, powered superplasticizer(PSP) agents to improve the slump loss rate of recycled aggregate concrete were developed. To evaluate the variation of fluidity against elapsed time and the mechanical properties, twenty four specimens whose main variables had the mixing condition of aggregates, such as natural and recycled gravels, and natural and recycled fine aggregates, were tested. The concrete slump with a liquid superplasticizer greatly decreased against the elapsed time and dropped by less than 50% of initial slump after two hours. However the concrete slump with the PSP agents hardly varied until after half an hour and maintained more than 85% of initial slump even after an hour. Also the PSP agents made the compressive, splitting tensile, and flexural strength of concrete increased and the shrinkage strain decreased. Considering the properties improvement of concrete, it can be recommended that optimum mixing amount of the PSP agents should be 5% of the amount of cement.

  • In this paper, we suggest an efficient image processing method for fast paper currency counting with pattern recognition. The patterns are consisted of feature data in each note object extracted from full reflection image of notes and a general contact image sensor(CIS) is used to aggregate the feature images. The proposed pattern recognition algorithm can endure image variation when the paper currency is scanned because it is not sensitive to changes of image resulting in successful note recognition. We tested 100 notes per denomination and currency of several countries including Korea, U.S., China, EU, Britain and Turkey. To ensure the reliability of the result, we tested a total of 10 times per each direction of notes. We can conclude that this algorithm will be applicable to commercial product because of its successful recognition rates. The 100% recognition rates are obtained in almost cases with exceptional case of 99.9% in Euro and 99.8% in Turkish Lira.

  • 'Low Carbon, Green Growth' may be the achievable target in industry section, depending on whether less reliance on fossil-fuels use can bring higher productivity growth in the long run. This paper tests for the short-run and long-run effects of investment on energy-saving equipments on productivity growth in the Korean manufacturing industries. The investment in energy efficiency causes an increase in costs (measurement effect) in the short-run, but in the long-run likely improve energy intensity and reduce costs (positive real effect) despite the delay in new other investment for technical innovation (negative real effect). A 2SLS regression was attempted to deal with endogeneity of energy-saving investment. The productivity effects were tested for five manufacturing sub-industries showing relatively high energy intensity with annual time series data from 1982 through 2006. No productivity effects were accepted for all five sub-industries except Chemical products. Positive real effect was considered to be exceeded by negative real effect, resulting in decreased productivity growth for Chemical products.
