Study on solubilization of sewage sludge with electrolysis (전기분해 활용 하수슬러지 가용화 연구)

  • 하수처리장에서 발생하는 유기성 슬러지는 대부분 해양투기에 의해 처분되고 나머지는 매립, 소각, 퇴비화 등으로 처분된다. 그러나 런던협약 '96 의정서' 발효에 의해 2012년부터 해양투기가 금지되고, 매립장 및 소각장의 신규건설은 님비(NIMBY) 현상에 의해 제한받기 때문에 효과적인 슬러지 처분 및 가용화 방법이 요구되고 있다. 현재 초음파[1]나 열처리[2], 오존[3,4], 미생물 처리[5,6] 등 물리, 화학, 생물학적 처리방안이 연구되고 있으나 이러한 방법들은 에너지 과소비, 2차 오염물질 발생에 따른 처리비용 증가 등의 단점을 가지고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 기존의 연구 방법을 보안하고자 전기분해를 활용하여 슬러지 가용화를 시도함으로써 슬러지 발생을 저감시킬 수 있는 방법을 연구하였다. 본 실험에서는 전기분해를 위해 제작된 불용성 전극은 Titanium에 Iridium을 코팅하여 제작하였고, 최대 20V까지 전압을 고정시키고 시간에 따라 변화되는 전류와 전기전도도, pH 값을 관찰하였다. 실험에 사용된 활성슬러지는 3개월간 합성폐수로 순응화 시킨 후에 시료로 사용하였다. 전기분해에 의해 처리된 활성슬러지의 여액을 분석한 결과 SCOD, TN, TP 농도가 각각 510%, 9%, 106% 증가하였다. 이는 전기분해에 의해 미생물의 세포벽이 파괴되어 세포 내 물질들이 세포 외부로 용출되어 미생물들의 이용이 가능한 상태로 되었음을 알 수 있었다. 이는 국내 하 폐수의 낮은 C/N비 때문에 무산소조에 메탄올 같은 외부 탄소원을 공급하는 대신에 별도의 탄소원 공급 없이 가용화 된 슬러지를 반송시킴으로써 슬러지 저감에 따른 폐기 비용과 운전비용의 절감을 기대할 수 있어, 근본적인 슬러지 발생을 저감시킬 수 있는 해결책이라 할 수 있다.

Nutritional Properties by Composting Process of Algae Biomass as Soil Conditioner (조류 바이오매스를 이용한 토양개량제의 퇴비화 과정에 따른 영양성분 특성)

  • In this study, we produce a new type of the algae soil conditioner(ASC) using discarded algae biomass through a composting process and evaluate its nutritional characteristics. As the main ingredient, the ASCs used algae biomass collected through the coagulation-floating method and made by adding a variety of additional supporting materials (sawdust, pearlite, oilcake etc.). ASCs were divided into 0% in blank, 11.7% in ASC1, 21.6% in ASC2, 37.6% in ASC3, 59.5% in ASC4, and composted during 127 days. ASCs showed a sharp increase in temperature by aerobic microbial reaction, and 6~7 high and low temperature peaks were observed. As a result of physicochemical analysis, mineralization proceeded according to decomposing the organic matter and there was a marked increase not only in macronutrients (TN, P2O5, K2O), but also in secondary macronutrients (CaO, MgO). The microbial community change was found in stage 1 (bacteria, filamentous fungi) → stage 2 (actinomycetes, bacteria) → stage 3 (Bacillus sp.), depending on the maturation process. It was estimated that microbial transition was closely related to temperature change and nutritional behavior. The quality of soil conditioner can be determined according to the maturity of compost process, and it was determined that effective microbial activity could be induced by controlling algae biomass below 59.5% in this study. In conclusion, we found out the possibility of manufacturing and utilizing soil conditioner recycled algae biomass and if further technological development is made on the basis it can be used as an effective soil conditioner.

Analysis of Nutrient Cycling Structure of a Korean Beef Cattle Farm Combined with Cropping as Affected by Bedding Material Types (깔개물질의 종류에 따른 한우-경종 결합 농가의 양분순환 구조 분석)

  • In this study, we analyzed nutrient cycling structure of a small farm (cattle of 100 heads and arable lands of 2.5 ha) in Jeonnam province to investigate the effects of nutrients input by the addition of bedding materials (sawdust and rice hull) and nutrients loss before the application to the soils (the period during manure storage in the feedlot and composting process) on nutrient cycling structure. Sawdust and rice hull added as bedding materials increased N by 1.6% and 14.2% and $P_2O_5$ by 3.1% and 27.4%, respectively, relative to the amount of nutrients produced by excretion. This result suggests that the addition of nutrients via bedding materials should be considered for better estimation of nutrient balance. The most significant characteristics of the nutrient cycling structure was loss of mass and nutrients during the storage (21 days) and composting period (90 days). During this period, 78.4% of N and 9.5% of $P_2O_5$ was lost from sawdust compost; meanwhile, the percentages of loss for rice hull compost were 81.6% and 10.3%, respectively. A lower percentage of nutrients loss in sawdust compost than that in rice hull compost was attributed to the relatively slow decomposition rate of organic materials in the sawdust compost which has higher C/N ratio and lignin contents. Therefore, it was concluded that estimation of nutrient balance should be conducted based on nutrient contents in the final compost being applied to the lands rather than the amount of nutrients contained in the livestock excretion. In addition, the effects of bedding materials on nutrient losses should be also taken into account.

Composting of Pig Manure Affected by Mixed Ratio of Sawdust and Rice Hull (톱밥 및 왕겨 혼합조건이 돈분 퇴비화에 미치는 영향)

  • A bulking agent is an essential material for composting of high-moisture livestock manure such as pig slurry. Sawdust has been used as the most popular bulking agent but resources are limited in Korea. In this study, the feasibility of rice hull as a bulking agent was examined for composting of solid pig manure. The solid pig manure was mixed with 15% sawdust (PM+SD15), 15% rice hull (PM+RH15), 10% sawdust and 5% rice hull (PM+SD10+RH5), and 5% sawdust and 10% rice hull (PM+SD5+RH10) based on fresh weight. These mixtures were composted for 35 days. The average temperature of the composting file for 35 days was higher in PM+SD10+RH5 and PM+SD5+RH10 than in PM+SD15 and PM+RH15. The mass loss of PM+SD10+RH5 and PM+SD5+RH10 were 36.7 and 36.4%, respectively, which were higher than that of PM+SD15 and PM+RH15. After composting, organic matter content and organic matter/nitrogen ratio in all treatments met the official standards of commercial fertilizers. We concluded that rice hull may be a good bulking agent for pig manure composting when it is used in mixture with sawdust.

Effect of Temperature Condition on Nitrogen Mineralization and Soil Microbial Community Shift in Volcanic Ash Soil (온도가 화산회토양의 질소무기화와 미생물군집이동에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was carried out to evaluate effect of temperature condition on nitrogen mineralization of organic matter, distribution of microbial group by PLFA profiles, and soil microbial community structure in volcanic ash soil. Dried soil 30 g mixed well each 2 g of pellet (OFPE) organic fertilizers, pig manure compost (PMC), and food waste compost (FWC). And then had incubated at $10^{\circ}C$, $20^{\circ}C$, and $30^{\circ}C$, respectively. Nitrogen mineralization rate increased with increasing temperature and that was in the order of FWC>OFPE>PMC. Distribution ratio of microbial group by PLFA profiles were different significantly caused by incubation temperature and the type of organic matter. As incubating time passed, density of microbial group decreased gradually. The Gram-bacteria PLFA/Gram+ bacteria PLFA, Fungi PLFA/Bacteria PLFA, and Unsaturated PLFA/saturated PLFA ratios were decreased according to the increasing temperature gradually. But cy19:0/$18:1{\omega}7c$ ratio increased both FWC and PMC treatment. Principal component analysis using PLFA profiles showed that microbial community structure made up clearly at both 75 days ($10^{\circ}C$) and 270 days ($30^{\circ}C$) by temperature factor. As incubating time passed, microbial community structure shifted gradually.

Study on Composition and Fertilization of Feces from Laying Hens Fed Dietary Phytase (인분해효소를 급여한 산란계에서 배출되는 계분의 성상과 비료화에 관한 연구)

  • This study was conducted to produce a nutrient-balanced complex fertilizer using compost from laying hens fed with phytase levels. A total of 30 laying hens were randomly assigned in individual cages. The dietary treatments were fed from 51 to 60 wks of age, and included a phytase; 0, 1,000, and 2,000 FTU/kg in basal diets. Fresh feed (110 g) and drinking water were supplied to the laying hens every day. Feces from hens were collected daily and analyzed for N, P2O5, and K2O after compost maturity. This result showed there was no difference on the fecal excretion per feed intake of laying hens supplemented with phytase levels in the diets. On the other hand, the excretions of dried feces, N, P2O5, and K2O were significantly (P<0.05) reduced in 2,000 FTU/kg treatment than 0, 1,000 FTU/kg treatments. There was no difference on the compost composition and nutrient contents in compound fertilizer using compost from hens fed dietary phytase levels. However, compost content in the fertilizer was 69.6~71.6% when compost of 25~30% moisture content was used, and 13.0~47.1% at compost of 40~60% moisture content. As a result of this study, it was confirmed that hen's compost controlled moisture content could be produced as a nutrient-balanced compound fertilizer.

Decomposition of Compost Bag Using Polyester Resin (폴리에스테르 수지를 이용한 콤포스트 백 분해에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, the change of water content, pH, and combustion weight on the decomposition of poly ester vinyl and high density poly ethylene were examined. The poly ester vinyl was degraded by microorganism in food wastes for 30 days, while high density poly ethylene vinyl was not degraded. Also, the poly ester vinyl was rapidly degraded after the 10 days of operation and its weight was decreased. In the combustion reaction between $300^{\circ}C$ and $600^{\circ}C$, complete combustion was performed. Due to the degradation of poly ester vinyl by microorganism in food waste, the pH was increased from 4.26 to 7.6. During of 60 days operation, poly ester vinyl was degraded over 90%.

  • 가축분뇨는 발생부터 처리, 유통 단계에 이르기까지 다양한 경로에서 비점오염이 배출되고 있다. 그러나 소규모 농가의 경우 수거에 의해 공공처리시설에서 처리되는 가축분뇨의 양은 매우 적고, 대부분 자체 자원화 시설에서 톱밥발효에 의한 퇴비화를 하는 등 관리 미흡으로 인하여 축산 농가로부터 배출되는 비점오염부하가 큰 실정이다. 또한 관리주체가 모호하고, 축산비점오염물질의 정량화 및 하천에 미치는 영향에 대한 연구가 미흡하여 관리 대책 마련에 있어 어려움을 겪고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 축산농가의 밀집지역을 대상으로 축산 비점오염물질이 강우시에 주변 하천에 미치는 영향을 조사 및 분석하여 향후 축산 비점오염원 DB구축에 기초자료로 이용하고자 연구하였다. 연구대상 지역은 경상북도 영천시 북안천 일대로 축산비점오염원에 대한 영향 파악을 조사하기 위해 하천의 상류부터 하류까지 총 5개의 지점을 선정하여 2015년도에 6개 강우사상에 대하여 모니터링을 수행하였다. 수문분석을 위해 조상대상지역의 강우량, 유속 및 유량 등을 측정하였으며, 수질분석은 수질오염공정시험과 Standard Method를 이용하여 BOD, TN, TP 등의 농도를 분석하였다(USEPA 1993). 모니터링의 결과를 이용하여 강우시 오염물질에 대한 EMC를 산정하고 각 소유역 내 축산 현황에 따른 하천의 수질을 평가하였다.

Tentative Model of Cooperative Work for Composting of Animal Residues(I) (동물성 잔재물의 퇴비화 작업 시안(I))

  • Composting of animal residues with weeds and waste papers as bulking agents was tested. Coorperative form of work with farmers, students, cleaning women and members of citizens' movement was attempted. The responses of participants for composting, through it's laboriousness and dirtiness, were favorable with feeling of doing good for social services. The temperature of compost was raised up to 83 $^{\circ}C$. in spite of cold winter weather after turning. The pH, water content, total carbon, total nitrogen and C/N ratio showed the similarity to stability steps of other usual composts. The contents of heavy metals were low except Cu in comparison with standard levels. The uses of waste papers as a bulking agent for composting of animal residues, especially for organic farming, would need more diverse investigations.
