Entity Embeddings for Enhancing Feasible and Diverse Population Synthesis in a Deep Generative Models (심층 생성모델 기반 합성인구 생성 성능 향상을 위한 개체 임베딩 분석연구)

  • An activity-based model requires detailed population information to model individual travel behavior in a disaggregated manner. The recent innovative approach developed deep generative models with novel regularization terms that improves fidelity and diversity for population synthesis. Since the method relies on measuring the distance between distribution boundaries of the sample data and the generated sample, it is crucial to obtain well-defined continuous representation from the discretized dataset. Therefore, we propose an improved entity embedding models to enhance the performance of the regularization terms, which indirectly supports the synthesis in terms of feasible and diverse populations. Our results show a 28.87% improvement in the F1 score compared to the baseline method.

Analysis of the Urban Interactions of Seoul Metropolitan Region using Commuting Data and GIS (통근자료와 GIS를 이용한 서울대도시권 도시 간 상호작용 분석)

  • To predict the urban growth trend and to prevent the metropolitan problems, it is important to track the spatio-temporal changes in the urban spatial structure. Commuting is inevitable and regular activities emerging in the metropolitan region. Therefore, it can be a useful to examine the interregional interaction and the urban spatial change. The purpose of this study is to investigate the urban interaction between Seoul and cities around Seoul Metropolitan Region, and GIS functions helped analysis and visualized results. An analysis of current commuting data using the Gravity Model suggests that the interaction between Seoul and its peripheral cities has been intensified from 1990 to 2000 and that the urban interaction was closely related to the distance. And the southward distribution of the cities having a strong interaction with Seoul accounts for the imbalance in growing of Seoul Metropolitan Region.

Simplified Bridge Weigh-In-Motion Algorithm using Strain Response of Short Span RC T-beam Bridge with no Crossbeam installed (가로보가 없는 단지간 RC T빔교의 변형률 응답을 이용한 단순화된 BWIM (Bridge Weigh-In-Motion) 알고리즘)

  • A thorough administration of the arterial road network requires a continuous supply of updated and accurate information about the traffic that travels on the roads. One of the ways to effectively obtain the traffic volume and weight distribution of heavy vehicles is the BWIM technique, which is actively being studied. Unlike previous studies, this study was performed to develop a simplified Bridge Weigh-In-Motion (BWIM) algorithm that can easily estimate the axle spacing and weight of a traveling vehicle by utilizing the structural characteristics of the bridge. A short span RC T-beam bridge with no crossbeam installed was selected for the study, and then the strain response characteristics of bridge deck and girder was checked through preliminary field test. Based on the preliminary field test results, a simplified BWIM algorithm suitable for the bridge to be studied was derived. The validity and accuracy of the BWIM algorithm derived in this study were verified through field test. As a result of the verification test, the proposed BWIM algorithm can estimate the axle spacing and gross weight of the travelling vehicles with the average percent error of less than 3%.

The Homogeneous Regions and Functional Regions in the Internal Structure of Seoul (서울시 등질지역과 기능지역의 구조 분석)

  • This paper intends to identify the structure of homogeneous regions and functional regions in Seoul based on B.J.L. Berry's ‘general field theory of spatial behavior’. The structure of homogeneous regions by using socio-economic variables can explain how the structural elements of the city are arranged. It can be ssid that Seoul has shifted towards more complicated and differentiated features in terms of homogeneous regions. The different patterns are found between the northern part to Han River where old torn areas are located and the southern part to Han River where newly urbanized areas are located. Usually, the concentric pattern and the sectoral pattern coexist, which is enhanced moving from CBD to the outskirt area. The distribution of different social classes shows irregular pattern similar to the variation of living environment. The social gap is expected to be more widening between new towns and old towns. The analysis of spatial movement pattern shows no clear hierarchical order because of current shifts towards both multi-nuclear pattern and spatial dispersion. The functional regions show duplicated structure overlapping their boundaries each other. The ‘general field theory of spatial behavior’ strongly suggests that spatial interactions among sub-areas in the city are differentiated from the basic characteristics and function of each sub-area. The attributes of homogeneous regions and functional regions are interrelated in the characteristics of isomorphic nature.
