  • The purpose of this study is to compare junior high school students' conceptual changes about force and motion and their interest in science between a group with the instruction including sports experiential learning activities and a group with traditional instruction. In addition, for a group with sports experiential learning activities, students' conceptual changes and interest were examined according to the degree of their sports-experience before the instruction. The subject was 7th-grade students(N=82), and they were divided into two groups: experimental group and control group. The conceptual changes were positive in both groups. In the multiple choice questions the experimental group students(20.0%) were more positively changed than the control group students(17.2%). The number of students who responded with the right explanation increased 26.7% in the experimental group and 10.4% in the control group. The interest of the control group was significantly increased in the topic dimension(p<0.05). The interest of the experimental group was significantly increased in the experiential activity and the communicative activity(p<0.05). Students who had much sports-experience showed the most positive changes. Moreover the interest of these students was especially increased in internal motive, receptive activity, experiential activity, and communicative activity.

  • Since the introductionof modern therapies, more children with cancer have survived their illness. As a result, an interest in the degree of adjustment achieved by cancer survivors has increased. In this study, quality of life and behavior problemsof child and adolescent cancer survivors were compared with those of healthy controls. Also, the patternsof the discrepancy between parent-report and self-report were compared. Childhood cancer survivors aged 8-18 and their mothers were participated in the study. Parent and self report versions of PedQL were administered to assess the quality of life. K-CBCL and K-YSR were further completed to assess internalizing and externalizing behavior problem. Results suggested that cancer survivors generally showed lower quality of life in physical and social domains and more internalizing behavior problem than healthy control group. However, the results were affected by the domain, age group, and informant. The pattern of discrepancy between parent and self report was similar. All parents reported higher levelsof quality of life and lower levels of behavior problems compared to the self reports of their siblings. In assessing internalizing problem behaviors, cancer survivor group showed greater discrepancy than the healthy control group. The implications, limitations, and directions for future research were also discussed.

For this study, one experimental group and one control group, composed of 34 students in total, are organized and treatment is conducted on these groups. The SPSS 12.0 statstics program is employed to analyze the questionnaires of both-test. Mann-Whitney U and Multiple Linear Regression test are used to analyze the result in order to verify the differences between experienced group and controlled group of pre-test scores within the groups. First, the statistics show a difference in leadership life skills factors(p<.001) between the experimental group and the control group. The Reality Therapy group program is a significant predictor of the leadership life skills. These statistics prove that experimental group has higher leadership life skills than the other group. • This study investigated the influences of role-playing analogy upon students' scientific conceptual understandings, application abilities, retentions of conception and application, and learning motivation. Four classes of 7th grade at a middle school in Seoul were assigned to control and treatment groups, and taught about 'motion of molecules' for 4 class hours. For the Treatment group, role-playing analogy instruction was used. The traditional instruction was used for the control group. Data analysis indicated that the scores of the treatment group were significantly higher than those of the control group in the tests on the conception, the retention of application, and the confidence. In the tests of the application, attention, and relevance, there were significant interactions between instruction and student' gender. Both female and male students in the treatment group scored significantly higher than those in the control group in the application test. In the case of attention and relevance tests, male students in the treatment group scored significantly higher than those in the control group. Educational implications are discussed.

  • This study aims to examine the level of precariousness among young adults in South Korea and analyze the factors affecting their subjective well-being by adopting the three forms of precariousness suggested by Rodgers(1989) such as lack of resource, uncertainty and disempowerment as its analytical framework. Structural Equation Model was used for analyzing the path model of self-rated health, income level and social support(three forms of resource) affecting subjective wellbeing through uncertainty and disempowerment. Study population include young adults aged between 19 to 34 with a sample size of 415 using data of the 8th wave of the Korean General Social Survey(KGSS), 2010. Study population is divided into lower-age group (aged between 19-26) and upper-age group (aged between 27-34) in order to examine the differences between age groups by using Multiple Group Analysis. Study results show that three forms of resources, uncertainty and disempowerment had direct effect on the subjective well-being of South Korean young adults and disempowerment had the most significant effect among the factors. In addition, self-rated health and income level had indirect effect on subjective well-being through both uncertainty and disempowerment while social support had indirect effect on subjective well-being only through disempowerment. Results from the Multiple Group Analysis indicate that among the two age groups, income level only has a significant effect on subjective well-being in the upper-age group. In addition, disempowerment had greater effect on subjective wellbeing among upper-age group than the lower-age group. Based on the study results, this paper suggested policy implications and discussion for further research.
