Packet Loss Recovery for H.264 Video Transmission Over the Interne (인터넷 상에서의 H.264 비디오 전송을 위한 패킷 손실 복원에 관한 연구)

  • This paper presents an efficient packet loss resilient scheme for real-time video transmission over the Internet. By analyzing the temporal and spatial dependencies in inter- and intra-frames, we assign forward error correction codes (FEC) across video packets for minimizing the effect of error concealment and error propagation from packet loss. To achieve optimal allocation of FEC codes, we formulate the effect of packet loss on video quality degradation as packet distortion model. Then we propose an unequal FEC assignment scheme with low complexity based on packet correction rate, which uses the packet distortion model and includes channel status information. Simulation results show that the proposed FEC assignment scheme gives substantial improvement for the received video quality in packet lossy networks. Furthermore the proposed scheme achieves relatively smaller degradation of video quality with higher packet loss rates.

A Handover Algorithm Using Fuzzy Set Theory (퍼지 이론을 이용한 핸드오버 알고리즘)

  • In cellular mobile communication systems, if the size of a cell is decreasing for economic utilization of frequency resources, frequent handovers may be requested because the time a mobile stays in a cell is decreasing. In general the measured parameters to decide handover including RSSI, BER, and the distance between mobile station and base station, are usually incorrect and handover decision using single parameter insufficient. Therefore, the better handover algorithm should take over the problems of this uncertain measurements, and make the decision more robust and flexible by the consideration of all those decision parameters at the same time. We propose a novel handover algorithm based the multicriteria decision making, in which those parameters are participated in the decision process using aggregation function in fuzzy set theory. As a simulation results, the overall decision making is more reliable and flexible than the conventional method using only one parameter, RSSI in terms of call force ratio, and handover request ratio.

A Novel Enhanced Decision-Directed Channel Estimation Scheme in High-Speed Mobile Environments (고속 이동 전파환경에서 결정지향 채널 추정 기법의 개선)

  • It has been a big trend of the convergence technologies about communication systems and vehicular industry to improve safety and convenience. To achieve a number of infotainment vehicular applications, vehicles should transmit information with high reliability. A robust and accurate channel estimation scheme is of great importance to achieve the goal. In this paper, we present a novel enhanced decision-directed channel estimation scheme called FADP (Frequency Averaging Data Pilot) for dynamic time-varying vehicular channels in IEEE 802.11p. We use linear averaging filtering in frequency domain, and utilize the correlation characteristic of the channels between the adjacent two data symbols, update the CR in time domain to get more accuracy. Finally, analysis and simulation results reveal that compared with exist schemes, the proposed scheme has a good performance in mean square error (MSE) and bit error rate (BER).

Searching and Autoalignment Method for Indoor Free-space Optical Communication (실내용 자유 공간 광 통신을 위한 수신단의 위치 탐색 및 자동 링크 정렬 방법)

  • We propose and demonstrate a searching and autoalignment method for indoor optical wireless communication, using a cost-effective retroreflective sheet and a microelectromechanical system (MEMS) mirror. We use an extremum-seeking method for a single axis and beam steering with a MEMS mirror to maintain a line of sight (LOS) with the optical link. This autoalignment method shows a receiver sensitivity of -31.87 dBm for a bit rate of 2.5 Gb/s over a 7 m communication link.

Cell ID Detection Schemes Using PSS/SSS for 5G NR System (5G NR 시스템에서 PSS/SSS를 이용한 Cell ID 검출 방법)

  • This paper presents cell ID (cell identity) detection schemes using PSS/SSS (primary synchronization signal/secondary synchronization signal) for 5G NR (new radio) system and evaluates the detection performance. In this paper, we consider two cell ID detection schemes, i.e. two-stage detection and joint detection schemes. The two-stage detection scheme consists of two stages which estimate a channel gain between a transmitter and receiver and detect the PSS and SSS sequences. The joint detection scheme jointly detects the PSS and SSS sequences. In addition, this paper presents coherent and non-coherent combining schemes. The coherent scheme calculates the correlation value for the total length of the given PSS and SSS sequences, and the non-coherent combining scheme calculates the correlation within each group by dividing the total length of the sequence into several groups and then combines them non-coherently. For the detection schemes considered in this paper, the detection error rates of PSS, SSS and overall cell ID are evaluated and compared through computer simulations. The simulation results show that the joint detection scheme outperforms the two-stage detection scheme for both coherent and non-coherent combining schemes, but the two-stage detection scheme can greatly reduce the computational complexity compared to the joint detection scheme. In addition, the non-coherent combining detection scheme shows better performance under the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN), fixed, and mobile environments.

  • Sensor networks consist of sensor nodes with small size, low cost, lowpower consumption, and multi-functions to sense, to process and to communicate. The main issue in sensor networks has been focused on minimizing power consumption of sensors to maximize network life time. In some critical applications, however, the most important issue is to transmitsensing information to the end user (the sink node) with reliability. Reliable information forwarding using multiple paths in sensor networks (ReinForM) has been proposed to achieve desired reliability in the error-prone channel, but it needs increasing transmission riverhead as the channel error rate becomes high and the number of hops between the source node and the sink node increases. In this paper, we propose a reliable transmission rnechanissmusing intermediate source nodes in sensor networks (ReTrust) to reduce packet overhead while keeping the desired reliability. ReTrust has beenshown to provide desired reliability and reduced overhead via simulationsand analysis.

An Enhanced Wireless TCP protocol based on Explicit Error Notification (에러 보고를 통한 무선 TCP의 성능 향상)

  • When a packet loss occurs in a communication network operating a TCP protocol, the TCP protocol regards it that the loss has resulted from network congestion. Then the TCP protocol performs congestion control. When it is applied to the wireless network having quite a high BER characteristics, the performance of TCP protocol is degraded very much. In this paper, we propose an Explicit Error Notification(EEN) algorithm to improve the performance of the wireless TCP When a packet loss occurs in the wireless network, the TCP receiver decodes the TCP segment sequence number and the address of the TCP sender and receiver, and then informs the TCP sender of the error in wireless network by sending a NACK. It is to distinguish packets in error from losses of network congestion. In this paper, the performance of the proposed EEN algorithm is analyzed and simulated. In fact, as more errors are corrected, the proposed algorithm shows a larger improvements in performance.

A Temporal Error Concealment Algorithm with Adaptive Block Size in the H.264/AVC Standard (H.264에서의 시방향(時方向) 에러은닉 기법)

  • For the improvement of coding efficiency, the H.264 standard uses new coding tools. Using these coding tools, H.264 has achieved significant improvements from rate-distortion point of view. The adoption of these tools enables a macroblock in H.264 to have more information, sixteen motion vectors, four reference frames and a macroblock mode. In this paper, we present an efficient temporal error concealment algorithm by using not only motion vectors and reference frames but also macroblock mode of neighbor macroblocks. Our algorithm conceals the macroblock error with variable sizes, $16{\times}16,\;16{\times}8,\;8{\times}16,\;8{\times}8$ depending on the macroblock modes of neighbor macroblocks. Simulation results show that the proposed method increase the objective quality regardless of bit-rate and block error rate.

Moving Object Detection Algorithm for Surveillance System (무인 감시 시스템을 위한 이동물체 검출 알고리즘)

  • In this paper, a improved moving object detection algorithm for stable performance of surveillance system in case of iterative moving in limited area and rapidly illuminance change in background scene is proposed. The proposed algorithm is that background scenes are sampled for initializing background image then the sampled fames are divided by block and sum of graylevel value for each block pixel was calculated, respectively. The initialization of background image is that background frame is respectively reconstructed with selecting only the maximum graylevel value and the minimum graylevel value of blocks located at same position between adjacent frames, then reference images of background are set by the reconstructed background images. Moving object detecting is that the current image frame is divided by block then sum of graylevel value for each block pixel is calculated. If the calculated value is out of graylevel range of the initialized two reference images, it is decided with moving objects block, otherwise it is decided background. The evaluated results is that the error rate of the proposed method is less than the error rate of the existing methods from $0.01{\%}$ to $20.33{\%}$ and the detection rate of the proposed method is better than the existing methods from $0.17{\%}\;to\;22.83{\%}$.

Efficient Performance Evaluation Method for IS-95 System (IS-95 시스템 역방향 채널에서의 효율적인 성능평가 기법)

  • In this paper, in order to evaluate the performance of IS-95 system reverse link in white gaussian noise and rayleigh fading environment, we suggest epochal proposal to improve computer run-time and its efficiency is verified in terms of the number of samples. MC(Monte Carlo) simulation is the most popular simulation technique lately, but MC simulation requires a number of samples at low bit error rate. Therefore, MC cannot avoid the limit of computer run-time. To alleviate these problems, we apply the suggested method called central moment technique to the reverse link of the IS-95 system and can obtain discrete probability mass functions from Nth order central moments of the less number of received signal samples than those required in MC. Continuous cumulative probability distribution function can be accurately estimated by using interpolation and the improvement effect for the number of samples is proven.
