The Republic of Korea is located far from the boundary of the earthquake plate, and the intra-plate earthquake occurring in these areas is generally small in size and less frequent than the interplate earthquake. Nevertheless, as a result of investigating and analyzing earthquakes that occurred on the Korean Peninsula between the past two years and 1904 and earthquakes that occurred after observing recent earthquakes on the Korean Peninsula, it was found that of a magnitude of 9. In this paper, the Korean Peninsula Historical Earthquake Record (2 years to 1904) published by the National Meteorological Research Institute is used to analyze the relationship between earthquakes on the Korean Peninsula and statistical self-similarity. In addition, the problem solved through this paper was the first to investigate the relationship between earthquake data occurring on the Korean Peninsula and statistical self-similarity. As a result of measuring the degree of self-similarity of earthquakes on the Korean Peninsula using three quantitative estimation methods, the self-similarity parameter H value (0.5 < H < 1) was found to be above 0.8 on average, indicating a high degree of self-similarity. And through graph visualization, it can be easily figured out in which region earthquakes occur most often, and it is expected that it can be used in the development of a prediction system that can predict damage in the event of an earthquake in the future and minimize damage to property and people, as well as in earthquake data analysis and modeling research. Based on the findings of this study, the self-similar process is expected to help understand the patterns and statistical characteristics of seismic activities, group and classify similar seismic events, and be used for prediction of seismic activities, seismic risk assessments, and seismic engineering.

It is often challenging to evaluate local spatial association among onedimensional vectors generally representing paired-location events where two points are physically or functionally connected. This is largely because of complex process of such geographic phenomena itself and partially representational complexity. This paper addresses an alternative way to identify spatially autocorrelated paired-location events (or vectors) at a local scale. In doing so, we propose a statistical algorithm combining univariate point pattern analysis for evaluating local clustering of origin-points and similarity measure of corresponding vectors. For practical use of the suggested method, we present an empirical application using transactions data in a local housing market, particularly recorded from 2004 to 2006 in Franklin County, Ohio in the United States. As a result, several locally characterized similar transactions are identified among a set of vectors showing various local moves associated with communities defined.

An Internet worm is a self-replicating malware program which uses a computer network. As the network connectivity among computers increases, Internet worms have become widespread and are still big threats. There are many approaches to model the propagation of Internet worms such as Code Red, Nimda, and Slammer to get the insight of their behaviors and to devise possible defense methods to suppress worms' propagation activities. The influence of the network characteristics on the worm propagation has usually been modeled by medical epidemic model, named SI model, due to its simplicity and the similarity of propagation patterns. So far, SI model is still dominant and new variations of the SI model, called SI-style models, are being proposed for the modeling of new Internet worms. In this paper, we elaborate the problems of SI-style models and then propose a new accurate stochastic model using an occupancy problem.
Up to now Permanent traffic volumes have been counted by Automatic Vehicle Classification (AVC) on National Highways. When counted data have missing items or errors, the data must be revised to stay statistically reliable This study was carried out to estimate correct data based on outoregression and seasonal AutoRegressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA). As a result of verification through seasonal ARIMA, the longer the missed period is, the greater the error. Autoregression results in better verification results than seasonal ARIMA. Traffic data is affected by the present state mote than past patterns. However. autoregression can be applied only to the cases where data include similar neighborhood patterns and even in this case. the data cannot be corrected when data are missing due to low qualify or errors Therefore, these data shoo)d be corrected using past patterns and seasonal ARIMA when the missing data occurs in short periods.
We propose an optimization of mutual information for multiresolution image registration to represent useful information as integrated form obtaining from complementary information of multi modality images. The method applies mutual information as cost function to measure the statistical dependency or information redundancy between the image intensities of corresponding pixels in both images, which is assumed to be maximal if the images are geometrically aligned. As experimental results we validate visual inspection for accuracy, changning initial condition and addictive noise for robustness. Since our method uses the native image rather than prior feature extraction, few user interaction is required to perform the registration. In addition it leads to robust density estimation and convergence as applying non-parametric density estimation and stochastic multiresolution optimization.

Traffic analysis during past years used the Poisson distribution or Markov model, assuming an exponential distribution of packet queue arrival. Recent studies, however, have shown aperiodic and burst characteristics of network traffics. Such characteristics of data traffic enable the scalability of network, QoS, optimized design, when we analyze new traffic model having a self-similar characteristic. This paper analyzes the self-similar characteristics of a small-scale mixed traffic in a network simulation, the real network Traffic.

Recent measurements of local-area and wide-area traffic have shown that network traffic exhibits at a wide range of scales - Self-similarity. Self-similarity is expressed by long term dependency, this is contradictory concept with Poisson model that have relativity short term dependency. Therefore, first of all for design and dimensioning of next generation communication network, traffic model that are reflected burstness and self-similarity is required. Here self-similarity can be characterized by Hurst parameter. In this paper, when different many data traffic being integrated under various environments is arrived to communication network, Hurst Parameter's change is analyzed and compared with simulation results.
Quantification of roughness plays an important role in modeling strength deformability and fluid flow behaviors of rock joints. A procedure was suggested to simulate joint roughness, and characteristics of the roughness was investigated in this study. Stationary fractional Brownian profiles with known input values of the fractal parameter and other profile properties were generated based on random midpoint displacement method. Also, a procedure to simulate three dimensional roughness surface was suggested using the random midpoint displacement method. Selected statistical roughness parameters were calculated for the generated self-affine profiles to investigate the attribute of roughness. Obtained results show that statistical parameters applied in this study were able to consider correlation structure and amplitude of the profiles. However, effect of data density should be tackled to use statistical parameters for roughness quantification.

For quantitative analysis of spatio-temporal distribution pattern on marine environment, spatial autocorrelation statistics on the both global and local aspects was applied to the observed data obtained from Gwangyang Bay in South Sea of Korea. Global indexes such as Moran's I and General G were used for understanding environmental distribution pattern in the whole study area. LISAs (local indicators of spatial association) such as Moran's I ($I_i$) and $G_i{^*}$ were considered to find similarity between a target feature and its neighborhood features and to detect hot spot and/or cold spot. Additionally, the significance test on clustered patterns by Z-scores was carried out. Statistical results showed variations of spatial patterns quantitatively in the whole year. Then all of general water quality, nutrients, chlorophyll-a and phytoplankton had strong clustered pattern in summer. When global indexes showed strong clustered pattern, the front region with a negative $I_i$ which means a strong spatial variation was observed. Also, when global indexes showed random pattern, hot spot and/or cold spot were/was found in the small local region with a local index $G_i{^*}$. Therefore, global indexes were useful for observing the strength and time series variations of clustered patterns in the whole study area, and local indexes were useful for tracing the location of hot spot and/or cold spot. Quantification of both spatial distribution pattern and clustering characteristics may play an important role to understand marine environment in depth and to find the reasons for spatial pattern.
Data mining plays an important role in a knowledge discovery process and various algorithms of data mining can be selected for the specific purpose. Most of traditional hierachical clustering methode are suitable for processing small data sets, so they difficulties in handling large data sets because of limited resources and insufficient efficiency. In this study we propose a hybrid neural networks clustering technique, called PPC for Pre-Post Clustering that can be applied to large data sets and find unknown patterns. PPC combinds an artificial intelligence method, SOM and a statistical method, hierarchical clustering technique, and clusters data through two processes. In pre-clustering process, PPC digests large data sets using SOM. Then in post-clustering, PPC measures Similarity values according to cohesive distances which show inner features, and adjacent distances which show external distances between clusters. At last PPC clusters large data sets using the simularity values. Experiment with UCI repository data showed that PPC had better cohensive values than the other clustering techniques.
