  • The micropile, which is a kind of the in-situ manufactured pile with small diameter of $150\sim300mm$, is constructed by installing a steel bar or pipe and injecting grout into a borehole. The application fields of micropile are being gradually expanded in a limited space of down-town area, because the micropile has various advantages with low vibration and noise in method and compact size in machine, etc. Mostly, the micropile has been applied to secure the safety of structures, depending on the increment of bearing capacity and the restraint of displacement. The micropile is expected to be used in various fields due to its effectiveness and potentiality in the future. The model test, focused on the interaction between micropile and soil in this study, was carried out. The micropile is installed in a soil adjacent to footing (concept of 'soil reinforcement'). With the test results and soil deformation analysis, the reinforcement effect (relating to bearing capacity and settlement) was analysed in a qualitative and quantitative manner, respectively. Consequently, it is expected that we nay demonstrate the improvement of an efficiency and application in the design and construction of micropile.

  • It needs to Prevent damage as aging shotcrete itself exists as a dangerous component to comuting vehicles or infrastructure due to scaling, spaling, and loosening. However, it is hard to make an approach owing to a steep slope and high work, and there has been indicated a limit that it is difficult to grasp the internal condition of shotcrete on the surface. This study aimed to research internal defects that cannot be observed from the surface, by measuring a subtle thermal transfer on the shotcrete surface by using infrared thermography for overcoming such a technical limit. As a result of conducting an inspection through an analysis on measured data and fieldwork using an endoscope camera, it was impossible to accurately determine the wet part because of an excessive coating of shotcrete, yet, This study is proposed effictively extract a void part of the inside with non-destructive and non-touching method.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the flexural strengthening effectiveness for the beams reinforced with NSM CFRP strips. To accomplish this objective, concrete T beams were made and tested. From this study, it is found that the flexural stiffness and strength of the beams reinforced with NSM strips were significantly improved compared to the beams without CFRP strip. The maximum increase of flexural strength was 247%. Failure of the beam reinforced with NSM was initiated by a part of separation of NSM strips along the longitudinal direction, and the second failure of strips was investigated. After the first rupture of the NSM strips, the load dropped suddenly and the second rupture was succeeded. This result shows that a perfect composite reaction with NSM strips and concrete is possible in the beam reinforced with NSM CFRP strips the NSM strips and Near surface mounted(NSM) is one of the most recent and promising strengthening techniques for reinforced concrete structures.

  • The cable system of suspension bridges is a very important non-elastic element which caries an external load by a tension force of the cable, such that creates the integrity of a structure. It is not easy to find if cable system have been changed by the maintenance activities such as repairs or reinforcement. Sometimes the maintenance can cause structural deformations and changes of the tension force in cables. In most cases, the cable stayed bridges are managed by health monitering system, however, the main cable of suspension bridges need to develop more accurate and efficient monitoring system. The Namhee Bridge was constructed 35 years ago and it has been continually repaired and reinforced after then. This study describes the behavior of the cable system by analysing many of inspective reports and by using the results of hanger rope test and for the shape of main cables surveys.

  • The use of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) composites is significantly growing in construction and infrastructure applications where durability under harsh environmental conditions is of great concern. In order to examine the applicability of FRP rebar as a reinforcement in flexural member, flexural tests were conducted. 12 beams with different FRP materials such as CFRP, GFRP and Hybrid FRP and reinforcement ratio were tested and analyzed in terms of failure mode, moment-deflection, flexural capacity, ductility index and sectional strain distribution. The test results were also compared with the theoretical model represented in ACI 440.1R06. Test results indicate that the flexural capacity of the beams reinforced by FRP bars can be accurately predicted using the ultimate design theory. They also show that the current ACI model for computing the deflection overestimates the actual deflection of GFRP series and underestimates the deflection of CFRP series.

  • This study carried out an evaluation of an oil tank that was defective in structure. This paper is divided into two sections which are analysis for the working process and suggestion for improving on the structure of the oil tank. As stated above, it has three major factors as to an improvement, such as the life cycle of structure (especially physical life cycle), and the many factors related to the duration years of the oil tank and analysis result. Based on this study, the improvement of oil tank was established. For example, the ground investigation needs before design and construction of oil tank, and constructing the oil tank by retaining wall type tank is good for maintenance. Also, it is important that the system for drainage is related to maintenance.

  • In order to efficiently inspect rapidly increasing old tunnels in many well-developed countries, many inspection methodologies have been proposed using imaging equipment and image processing. However, most of the existing methodologies evaluated their performance on a clean concrete surface with a limited area where other objects do not exist. Therefore, this paper proposes a 6-step framework for tunnel crack detection deep learning model development. The proposed method is mainly based on negative sample (non-crack object) training and Cascade Mask R-CNN. The proposed framework consists of six steps: searching for cracks in images captured from real tunnels, labeling cracks in pixel level, training a deep learning model, collecting non-crack objects, retraining the deep learning model with the collected non-crack objects, and constructing final training dataset. To implement the proposed framework, Cascade Mask R-CNN, an instance segmentation model, was trained with 1561 general crack images and 206 non-crack images. In order to examine the applicability of the trained model to the real-world tunnel crack detection, field testing is conducted on tunnel spans with a length of about 200m where electric wires and lights are prevalent. In the experimental result, the trained model showed 99% precision and 92% recall, which shows the excellent field applicability of the proposed framework.

  • In this paper, a novel laser-based non-contact and non-destructive stress measurement technique is newly proposed for measuring stress in steel structural members. As the demand of stress monitoring in structural members is increased, various non-destructive techniques are being applied to the field of structural health monitoring. Spectroscopic techniques are non-contact technique and widely used for chemical identification of target materials. Especially, piezospectroscopic technique is a residual stress measurement technique in thermal barrier coatings. Although the piezospectroscopic technique has high possibility of measuring structural stress in steel members, the technique has been rarely applied to this field. In this paper, piezospectroscopy-based stress measurement technique is, therefore, proposed for measuring stress in steel structural member. To do that, alumina particles have been coated onto a specimen of a structural steel rod using a thermal spray coating technique. And then, an uniaxial compression test has been conducted to the specimen to collect each fluorescence spectrum under different loading conditions. Finally, the linear relation of spectral shift and applied compressive stress of the specimen has been experimentally established.

  • This paper reports the process of seismic fragility analysis for the rahman-type continuous bridge system. The target structure was the five span highway bridge with maximum pier hight of 72m. OpenSees software was used for the nonlinear time history analysis. In this study, 50 ground motions are considered for nonlinear time history analysis. For each ground motion, PGA was scaled from 0.1g to 2.0g with intervals of 0.1g in order to consider a wide range of the seismic intensity measure. In addition, yield displacement and ultimate displacement of each pier were calculated through section analysis. Based on the result of non linear time history analysis and section analysis, damage condition of target bridge was classified according to the definition of damage condition proposed by Barbat et al. As a result, it was predicted that Extensive Damage occurred at P1 when 0.731 g earthquake occurred in the longitudinal direction. Based on the seismic fragility analysis results, it is found that the probability of occurrence of Extensive Damage in the 4,800 - year period earthquake was about 4.2%. Therefore the target bridge has enough safety for earthquake.

  • This study is conducted to find out the effect of vibration on cure and compressive strength of lightweight Air Trapped Soil(ATS). If ATS is used next to a structure existed, the effect of vibration problems may be occurred, because there exist many sources of vibration such as pile driving, blasting and use of construction machinery. For example, if a road is expanded to reduce traffic congestion, it is expected that ATS's quality may be decreased due to vibration generated by cars moving on the road. Especially, because ATS has many air bubbles and needs a time for curing, the effect of vibration is more serious than we expected. So far, the effect of vibration on concrete has been conducted, but the study of ATS has not been conducted in detail. Therefore, for evaluating the effect of vibration on ATS during cure proceeds, unconfined compression tests are conducted on the samples prepared with different variables including vibration velocity, time when vibrated and mixing ratio. The results clearly show the effect of vibration on the characteristics of ATS.
