A Study on a Systematization of Preliminary Construction Control for the Quality and Schedule Management of APT Construction (품질확보 및 공기지연예방을 위한 공사관리 체계화에 관한 연구)

  • Generally speaking, it is important to know the activities itself exactly and to control the activities correctly so as to assure timely progress and the quality of any project. In order to progress smoothly in accordance with construction schedule, it is important to systematize the preliminary arrangements necessary for each process and then manage them. In this study, in order to progress smoothly the quality and schedule management of the construction, we can be made systematically pre-works in accordance with construction schedule by the civil construction items of the apartment house construction. we suggested pre-construction control item by the workers through experiential method of construction engineers in accordance with network schedule.

Development of Virtual Construction Equipment Simulation System Based on BIM for Civil Engineering Project (토목시설물에 대한 BIM 기반 가상건설 장비 시뮬레이션 시스템 개발)

  • BIM(building information modeling) has been actively applied to construction industries and to maximize its application through the life cycle of structure, various relevant technologies have been proposed. In particular, 4D sequencing management and 5D cost-related management were introduced as an improved version of the design review and interface control by 3D information design. On the other hand, the virtual construction using virtual construction equipment can sophisticatedly handle capacity, dynamic movement, collision boundaries of actual construction machines but it still stays at a low level in a technical sense. In this study, simulation systems based on BIM involving virtual construction equipment have been developed; then it is applied to the actual construction project to evaluate the safety and efficiency of construction equipments. It was confirmed that the simulation systems can be utilized to construct virtual construction site by using an effective 3D library of construction equipment and can plays a key role to secure construction safety and economic feasibility. Specifically, the simulation system are very useful for decision making by construction managers to select the optimum equipment and construction method with a better understanding for safety and cost-saving.

Trend Analysis and Market Expansion Strategies for Overseas Civil and Architectural Projects (해외건설 토목 ${\cdot}$ 건축분야 수주패턴 분석 및 시장확대 전략에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, the economic trend of internal enterprises toward the world market appears to exceedingly associate with industrial plants. Such circumstance would limit the diversity of project items and cause various issues of extreme disproportion of overseas construction market at the same time. Consequently, it seems essential to inspect the present state of bookings in the civil engineering and construction fields including the service corps, regarding the former period (from the year 1990 to 1996), the depressed period (from 1997 to 2000), and the latter period of monetary crisis (from 2001 to July 2006), based on the critical situation in foreign exchange occurred in the late 1990's; also important to look into the shifts of the representative items in such fields by regional groups of principal nations throughout the world. Therefore, the current situation of bookings in overseas construction companies should be clarified, and ultimately, appropriate measures should be established.

Estimation of Key Risk Management Factors for Construction Projects Based on Kano Model (Kano 모델 기반 건설프로젝트 핵심 리스크관리 요인 도출)

  • Risks in construction projects are increasing remarkably due to recent changes in the construction environment. Active risk management is required to recognize risks as opportunities. The purpose of this study is to propose a risk management model of the importance determination method through comparative analysis using Kano model, Timko CSC (Customer Satisfaction Coefficient), and ASC (Average Satisfaction Coefficient). Based on previous studies, the validity of risk management factor determination is reviewed through a questionnaire modified Kano model through interviews with working-level workers using the Delphi technique. Through this, a suitable risk management model is presented by selecting key risk management factors recognized by domestic construction project practitioners. As a result of the study, the Kano model developed to verify risk management of construction projects was evaluated to be effective in verifying the risk management of practitioners. It is expected that the Kano model presented in this study will be actively used to verify the importance of risk management for construction projects.

The Research on Development of Road Cost Index Using Each Representative Item of Expenditure (비목별 주요 항목을 활용한 도로 공사비지수 산정에 관한 연구)

  • Construction cost index is generally used to estimate the new project cost based on past construction data and to adjust the contract cost when the price change of various articles and items of expenditure composing the contract occurs. In Korea, it is mostly used for modulation of construction contract cost due to fluctuation of prices. However the method for making cost index had some problems in calculating cost index of each expenditure item that could not properly reflect the change of construction cost. To supplement these problems, the research of developing construction cost index has been executed. Through the precedent research, these problems were partially resolved but still remain. Therefore this research proposes the method for making cost index that utilizes representative items of labor, material, equipment by analyzing bill of quantity of road construction, through analysis and comparison of precedent studies. By using this method, it is expected to solve the problems which were not reflected in preceeding studies.

Effective Management of Construction Information Using a XML Based Project Deliverable Management System (XML 데이터베이스를 활용한 성과물 관리 프로세스의 효과)

  • These days construction management is executed in an information technology environment, which creates a large volume of digital data. At the completion of a project, the contractor is required to transfer to the owner the digital data as project deliverables usually in a form of CD's. From an enterprise-wide view point, this traditional way makes the management of project deliverables ineffective as the data accumulated from different projects could be enormous. The objective of this paper is to propose a structured way to utilize a XML database for better management of project deliverables. The XML database provides an environment which users can access through a project deliverable management system (PDMS). A pilot of the PDMS has been developed to test the effectiveness of document control. The result of the test demonstrates that the effectiveness of project deliverable management can be increased by providing a high transportability and usability of data in the construction life cycle.

Frequency Analysis of Extreme High Water Level Considering Tide/Surge Characteristic Changes (조석/해일 환경병화를 감안한 고극조위 빈도분석)

  • Due to both global warming and constructions of seadike/seawalls, continuously or abruptly rising tendencies of extreme high water levels have been detected at Kunsan and Mokpo harbors. This paper deals firstly with the separation of each effect, namely global warming effect and construction effect, on increases of water level quantitatively by a linear regression method. And then, it can be explained why and how the extreme high water levels had been risen just after constructions at both harbors. A numerical simulation of $M_2$ tidal constituent at Mokpo coastal zone shows that the tidal amplification by constructions is mainly due to the extinguishment of TCE at Mokpogu. The tidal flat effect makes the amplification more deepen at spring tide or extreme high tide, which results in the increase of inundation risk at Mokpo harbor. A frequency analysis method is applied, which is shown to be effective at such a site of having non-homogeneous tidal data due to constructions as Mokpo harbor.

  • Exemplary contracts of construction management (CM) including highway projects have been carried out in the civil engineering area over the past ten years. However, practical and administrative challenges as transitional circumstances have been revealed in the different participants of supervision, inspection and construction management. Thus, it is important to internally overcome problems and negative perception encountered in civil engineering, and to promote the efficiencies in construction cost and quality. In addition, external efforts should be put to market opening, globalization, and technology development for competitiveness and high value industry. While it is critical to establish the concrete CM system by collaborating with various participants, proven architecture and system have not been provided because of incorrect measurement of CM accomplishment, overlap of responsibility between CM and supervision, and slow deployment in construction field. This paper analyzed the current CM practices and business environments, and presented the possible solutions for strategy improvement of CM in the owner's view point.
